Title: Sing with me the song of our people . . .
Post by: Albert the Absentminded on July 14, 2014, 10:14:17 am
Praise be to Yogscast, for they have composed a dwarven anthem!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWz0qVvBZ0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWz0qVvBZ0)

Brothers of the mine rejoice!
Swing, swing, swing with me
Raise your pick and raise your voice!
Sing, sing, sing with me
Down and down into the deep
Who knows what we'll find beneath?
Diamonds, rubies, gold and more
Hidden in the mountain store

Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone
Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home
Skin made of iron, steel in our bones
To dig and dig makes us free
Come on brothers sing with me!

Chorus
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, digging a hole

The sunlight will not reach this low
Deep, deep in the mine
Never seen the blue moon glow
Dwarves won't fly so high
Fill a glass and down some mead!
Stuff your bellies at the feast!
Stumble home and fall asleep
Dreaming in our mountain keep

Born underground, grown inside a rocky womb
The earth is our cradle; the mountain shall become our tomb
Face us on the battlefield; you will meet your doom
We do not fear what lies beneath
We can never dig too deep

Welp, the lyrics and the animation really do make you question if this is a Minecraft song or a Dwarf Fortress song...
(also we totally didn't have 3 threads about that song already)

It definitely seems more dwarfy than crafty.
(yeah, I know, 3 isn't enough. Quick, start more!)

It is a dwarf themed song not really a Dwarf Fortress song or Minecraft song. In which case it does relate more to Dwarf Fortress. However saying that, the intention it dwarf themed and thats about it to it.

Either way of course, I enjoy the song :-)

I, for one, choose to believe those Dwarves are mining adamantine, not diamond.

I took that cyan to be an in-reference for the DF folks.

PTW so I always know where the link to that song is. It keeps getting lost in the links to the OTHER versions of the song, which I believe are subpar.

I suppose it depends. Dwarf Fortress players see adamantine. Minecraft players see diamond.

This song has seriously been stuck in my head for DAYS now. On the way to work, at work, at home, in the car, EVERYWHERE.

Me too. Fortunately, everyone around me has learned by now to just ignore my off-key whistling of random songs.

Minecraft has no ruby's, or goblins, this is clearly a DF song.

What I want to know is why you don't see a single forge...

They also reference digging to deep in that song. Lol.

We need to make a cover of this in either Tolkien (in the same vein as the choir in LOTR has dwarvish being sung) or Dwarf Fortress version of Dwarvish.

I just keep looking at the little details in the video, for example there are no female dwarves (or maybe one) but there is a crossdressing dwarf.

The one near the end with a ponytail and a tiny scruff of beard is definitely supposed to be female.  In some mythologies, female dwarves have beards.  One or two of the others might be female as well.

Since I no absolutely nothing about Minecraft, I thought the characters represented Yogscast members or something... and those are overwhelmingly male.

They do or at least some of them.
