Up me sign!
I suggest that you make the first adventure a larcenous, freewheeling Kea man.
Or the good old bloodlusted crazed human berserker.
Like this idea sign me up
I'd like to join in the fun. My first succession game of any sort, if so!
(will ninja this post with suggestions in an hour)
Why one adventurer why not have a different adventurer for each player... the world is persistant you can have a lot more interaction that way.
In this case I would also like to have a turn when it comes up!Why one adventurer why not have a different adventurer for each player... the world is persistant you can have a lot more interaction that way.
So just keep playing until you die or two weeks have passed, right? And if you survived, retire at the nearest town/site. Does sound a bit more fun that way, and keeps the flow of play a bit more... Flowing. Also makes it much more multiplayer-esque in a way, too.
Thanks for that suggestion, I think we'll do it that way, sounds better.
In this case I would also like to have a turn when it comes up!
Would it be possible to retire each adventurer in the same place, gradually building up aharemhardened party of adventurers? Whoever manages to survive tutors the new guy.
At any rate - even if we're not getting our turn for a week or more, toss up the world save once you have it, so we can go digging around in the legends viewer for interesting people and places!
Are forts allowed in this world a-la "The Museum", so for example, if I die early or retire do we get a chance to build a fort for players to live in/adventure in?
The "DeathAngels" assassins guild will exist when I start, mark my words.
I know some tricks :P
I would like to adventure in this world as well.
Ill grab an image of it from legends viewer:
really zoomed out image

Ill figure out a way to get a better one later
edit: Btw, I do like the way the world looks, I count 3 necro towers and saw a few libraries in legends. Hopefully one of them is in a human town.
It has plenty of goblin civs too, which means more angels...
The goblin corpse punches You in the right lower leg with her left hand, fracturing the bone through the ramie robe.

See, this is why I don't like messing with zombies. If there's one thing DF necromancers have mastered, it's the art of preserving muscle tissue.
By the way, it might be a good idea to edit the OP to include links to the stories of dead (or surviving) adventurers in "The Memorial of Adventurers" and "The Hall of Not-deadness"

Happyslap, I think this (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=154415.msg6653520#msg6653520) is the URL you meant to link to (goes directly to your post).
I'll write up the entry later. Suffice to say, I was an innocent bystander abandoned by his lord. That's the nobility for you.
EDIT: And I died again. Blasted bandits. At least my second adventure was interesting.
Writeup and save will be up later.

Hey Urlance, when you gonna post your writeup? No rush, just wandering :D
DO you think we should come up with a better name for the game? What is the name of the world?
Ill check.
It should work fine if we switch to the new version and use the same world.
But if you want to regen, i wont stop you.
I should be getting the save and writeup up later today, just so y'all know.
I'd like to get a turn if possible.

Why not, give me a turn.Added ya!
Just a little PSA: If you finish your turn before you've finished writing up what happened, you should upload the save first so that the next player can get started while you write up what happened to you.
We're still waiting on Urlance to finish the writeup of his turn and upload the save right? I'll drop him a PM. Wouldn't want his turn to be omitted because he forgot about it or something.
Here's the save (http://dffd.bay12games.com/download.php?id=11502&f=SuccessionAdventure.7z)!
Apologies for my tardiness. My health is rather variable, and I have a nasty habit of overestimating it. The writeup shall (hopefully) follow soon.
Thanks! It's a chronic condition, but it fluctuates, and I often find myself in the tricky position of either doing absolutely nothing (which is uncomfortably close to my usual itinerary) or doing something, but not knowing quite how it's going to turn out. Here's the save (http://dffd.bay12games.com/download.php?id=11502&f=SuccessionAdventure.7z)!

I say we PM him, wait 24 hours and if he doesn't show just move him to the last position and let the next player take the turn.
Hey Sorry been away from the internet for a few days downloading the save now
I'm all for more people joining in, myself, but we might want to set an upper limit (10?) on the number of people, or maybe switch to single-day turns.
Personally, I'm in favor of one-day (real time) turns myself. Keeps the game moving along, and people can always un-retire their adventurer if they don't have enough time to get much done during their turn. And with the one-day turns it becomes more likely that people might actually get multiple turns. Everyone so far has finished the playing portion of their turn in a single day anyways.
Thoughts, anyone? It's up to you at any rate, happyslap.
I think a week is good, because players can create forts after they finish up their adventuring time for that turn, which makes the world better. And if you want truly great stories you need to play your adventurer for awhile and not everyone has a huge amount of free time.Remember we already have the 2-week in-game time limit.
I dont recall what "The Museum" used but 3 days is too harsh and 1 day is extremely harsh, especially if you need to go out into the woods and grind up your skills to survive for any decent amount of time. I think we should stick with week long turns. Sure it will take awhile, but we get better stories that way.I know i personally in the new version can spend a embarrassingly long time fine tuning my chars personality, and that is even before starting the game properly.
WE should however make sure people are playing their turns, and if they dont, skip them.
edit:
just checked, they had 1 week, just like us.
But its your call XhAPPYSLApX.
I'm all for more people joining in, myself, but we might want to set an upper limit (10?) on the number of people, or maybe switch to single-day turns.I'm gonna think it over, we should stay with week long, but one day adventures definitely have their advantages. I'm gonna try and rework the framework to try and include both as options. If I can't find a way to include both, I think we should go with 4 day turns as a comprimise, long enough to make a good story, and short enough to not be a slog to wait through.

sounds like fun, can I grab a turn?
If it's not too late, may I join the adventure?Adding both of ya, though I do think we should not add any more to the list, unless people drop out, or something along those lines.

I don't think so. You can't compose a poem/song about a specific topic, only in a specific style.
You can tell stories about specific things, but trying to filter for your name doesn't turn anything up. I was trying to tell the story of the forgotten beast I slayed in another save, but couldn't find any way to do so besides the classic incident report dialogue.Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Damn. I wonder if it's possible to write a story about someone else's adventurer!? That would be interesting too!
noooooooo, please do 4 days at least.I'll think about it, but 3 would make it a bit more fast paced, and we can have 2 turns done in a week instead of only 1, though I am keeping the week long turn for those who want a fort instead, or wanna adventure and make a fort.
Here is the save, good luck Hawkwing!
May the ascii be with you. Here is the save, good luck Hawkwing!
Been a while since I've played without a texture pack. I'll give it my best!
I had to wrestle a boar.
Am i allowed to upgrade to 42.03? any objections.
Sorry I havent put up the first story but yet , Christmas family stuff and laptop issues I'll get an update up tonight
This is a *poem* all writing is quite clearly of the highest quality it is about culture and why I am cultured and every fricken other person in this village isn't.
Looking good!
Could I get a turn, if there's still one left?

11 is the max for now, but if anyone drops out, or otherwise cannot play, I'll add you to the list :D
Unless anyone else objects of course? Should we raise the max players?

I say the more the merrier. You never know if someone is going to drop out at the last second. Unless of course we're going for multiple runs in which case, less is more :P
That was an enjoyable read, untrusted. I sadly didn't manage to finish my own writeup before leaving for the holidays. I'll get it up as soon as I get back home in two days.Haha it's fine I'm not done with the rest of mine either

in short, lots of stuff happened, and it involved drunken priests, sewer brew and stories about kings, lots of them, oh yeah, and a coup de tat against a art hating lord.

At long last adventure awaits! Will it be alright if I start using 42.04?
I'll sign up.
Also, I might make a fort that's pretty much just a big tower to store treasure in. No traps, basically a community treasure hoard :P
Oh that's fine. And a relatively large amount can be done in a week, although I'm sure other people would be better at large amounts of progress in a week than me, but I do know that building a tower with a couple small buildings would not be too difficult, nor would it take more than a day or two IRL. I cannot say how long it would take in-game however.
Thanks for the info, I should probably try to work out a way for more than 11 to play at once.
Maybe we could have 2 different timelines? (Two of the same save, but different people playing on both, sounds like it'd be complicated, but fun nontheless)
After all, it's not the Windy Universe, it's the Windy Universes. Could make for an interesting little gimmick of sorts.
^ Is that even possible? I was under the impression that unnamed historical figures simply respawned as soon as you left the site.
I guess I will just take a turn when someone drops out, I suppose.

Oh yeah, and shouldn't it be turn 8a and 8b instead?

I'm going to build a fortress (the adventurer hangout) instead of a second run, if that's okThat's okay, did I say earlier that people can play fortresses for a week? If not, I'm probably going to make that a new rule.

Yeah, but correct me if I'm wrong, aren't both our saves directly following from Untrustedlife's (Turn 5)? Since that is where the timeline split happened, should it not be 6a and 6b, following from 5, since that is where the timeline 'split' happened? Prior to that it was just a single timeline: 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5.
It's all rather odd and confusing (the turn numbers) right now, that's just what I'm saying.
snipThat was great. I laughed out loud.

Depends on the fortress, I s'pose.I'm gonna put these in with the one Untrusted made. Cause they look pretty sweet :D

Where is everyone? 42.xx is the best version for adventuring yet, and I was hoping this'd become the next museum or something. Unfortunately, a succession game is only as good as its participation levels I suppose...
