Forget about the floor, I'm pretty sure that the entire dungeon can hear me right now...

Shield of the Gong, Singing Sword, worshipping Qazlal, occasionally shout uncontrollably mutation... and, for some reason, I've got a ring of stealth equipped.

I've never really looked into it, but I thought noise didn't stack? So none of the other stuff would be relevant apart from the Shield of the Gong (well, the Shield of the Gong isn't going to make noise every turn, but in practice that won't really matter because once it makes any noise at all it'll draw the rest of the level to your position).

Still, it's hard imagining a noisier character than that.

Yes, that is the primary disadvantage of the god. Qazlal gives you the power to destroy crowds of enemies easily, but also alerts those crowds to your position. This nets you a much higher tempo of play.

It doesn't stack, but with all that stuff, I'm basically constantly attracting things within a ~20 block radius, and that'll spike up to almost 60 whenever I'm in combat.

Yep. According to the wiki, it's piety-dependent, but easily exceeds a shout (~14 tiles) when maxed.

Edit: Having said that, the wiki page notes that it's based on .14, which still uses a circular radius, so it's probably different.

Singing sword doesn't make constant noise either; it makes noise in proportion to tension. And of course the shouting mutation is intermittent.

Note that I did modify the game to give DD regen out of combat. I did this because DDNe already sort of have renewable regen - just kite a troll. But that is tedious and boring, and effectively the same as giving them Slow Regen 2, so that's what I did. Tactically, nothing's changed. No regen as long as I'm fighting. Just imagine that instead of pressing 5, I went to my Lair kited-troll stash and Vampiric Drained them to get health. What's that you say? That would have used up food? Meh, then I'd just kite the troll to the level above where I was fighting.

I still feel like this is a win. An easy-game win, sure, but harder than my MiBe, so as long as Trog exists, this hack isn't the most OP thing ever.

I personally think that any part of a game that balances strength against tedium is an awful component. If everybody played DD "optimally," they would win much more. They would also commit suicide from sheer boredom.

I think that DD should be changed greatly.

Idea for species:

Centaurs are okay.
Deep Dwarves need fixing.
Deep Elves are okay.
Demigods need a rework.
Demonspawn are okay.
Draconians need the ability to choose what colour they will be at gamestart.
Felids are fine-ish, some tweaking could be useful. Hats and cloaks would be cute.
Formicids are okay.
Gargoyles are okay.
Ghouls are okay?
Halflings need to be merged with kobolds.
High Elves are okayish?
Hill Orcs seem average-ish, like MD were, but there's no way that Beogh will be changed, so HO are here to stay.
Humans are okay.
Kobolds should be merged with Halflings.
Merfolk are okay.
Minotaurs should be removed.
Mummies are the badspecies. Like CK, they're okay.
Naga are okay.
Octopodes are okay.
Ogres are okay.
Spriggans are okay.
Tengu are okay.
Trolls are okay.
Vampires are okay, I like the simplification of their blood states in trunk.
Vine Stalkers are okay.

Draconians should have the ability to choose their colour at the beginning of Crawl. Startscumming is bad. We already have a race that has random changes as you level up - that's Demonspawn.
Either Kobolds or Halflings should be removed, and the other tweaked to fulfill the nice the other had. I personally like Halflings more, but Kobolds are the likely survivor, as Halflings come from Tolkien, whose works should be avoided like the devil.[/sarcasm]
Minotaurs should be removed, Deep Dwarves should be changed, either to regen based on exploration (and no other way of regenning) or just changed back to Mountain Dwarves. Tweak MD and HO to fill the hole Mi left.
Demigods are meh, there are plenty of good ideas on the devwiki.

Never gonna happen.

Mottled Draconian could stand to be buffed though, maybe getting rF or something at level 14. As is, its the weakest colour, even with range 3 sticky flame in trunk. Otherwise they're fine, unless you end up with White Draconian as a FE or something.

Deep Dwarves are just terrible in every way. They deserve only the +9 executioners axe of race removal that's been itching to taste dwarven blood for a long time.

Demigods are weird in that they can develop absurd Int[Which is by far where their boosts make the most difference, as anyone who's played a Ghoul/Troll caster with Chei can testify] and HP/MP[The latter even better then Deep Elves since the apts were changed], which would seem to make them ideal casters. But they're really RNG dependent because of the lack of Sif/Veh/Gozag to guarantee them good spells past lair. The meh apts don't help. That said, I can't really think of a good way to rectify that. Also, this is just making me want to play DgFE some more. BRB, splatting a bajillion Demigods on D:7.

Gargoyles are just too good right now. Good AC, good resists/immunities AND above-average aptitudes in most things? IMO, they'd be more balanced if they lost a lot of their needless +1 apts[Why are they as good as Deep Elves at Conjurations?] for +0s or even -1s.

Mummies have too many drawbacks in exchange for situational advantages and their strength in Necromancy is almost useless since they can't use Regen, DDoor or Borgnjor's, which are the main draws of the school. If they lost rF- at level 7 or 14 and had their apts made equal to Demigod/Demonspawn, they'd be less painful to play, at the very least.

Humans/Halflings/Kobolds and to a lesser extent High Elves are barely even races. Why do we need them again? They're just not different enough, although I guess Humans can stay as the most basic race ever.

I hate Centaurs because ranged combat is just so terrible in this game. Then again, I've played literally one of them, so I can't really judge.

Anything not mentioned is fine.

Eh, it's just a thing in this thread to constantly rant about how the devs are removing once beloved features just because they are tedious. We had it with item destruction, we had it with the summonings nerf, we had it with the divinations school. That kind of talk isn't really supported on the official forums (as in people will tell you to stop whining or ban you), so people vent here.

I personally wasn't around for too many of the cuts, but I currently stick to 0.14 because of item destruction, separate accuracy and damage enchantments, and a few spells that I would be sad to lose.
