Title: Let's Play: The Elder Scrolls - Morrowind! ( And Expansions )
Post by: Pathos on April 07, 2010, 06:19:13 pm
So, yes, after what happened to my last LP ( my laptop broke for some reason, and now does not work at god damn all ), I have decided to run this one, instead. Mainly for the fact I am currently playing on my television ( awesome ) and because Avernum got boring as hell ( not so awesome ).

Let's get onto it, and let's play...

Morrowind! ( And Expansions )
The Game
Oh, come on, you all know this. The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind ( from now on known as TES3 ) is an open world, extremely freeform game that is lots and lots of fun. It has a relatively original setting, a great storyline and you can kill stuff. What more could you want?

First Choices:

Diary Entry: The Date Is Scribbled Out

Woah, I had this weird dream just before I arrived in Morrowind, this morning. There was some creepy woman talking to me and ash and stuff like that. Truly eldritch. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5I9e_6X35w&feature=related)

Then I was suddenly awoken by this person called Jiub. He hadn't talked to me the entire trip, and just as we were arriving in Vvardenfell he asked for my name. I had to tell him, I don't think he was going to let me out of the cabin, otherwise.

Spoiler: Name Is Mine, Pewpew (click to show/hide)

The guard luckily came. I was too dizzy to defend myself, if he hadn't and Jiub had pressed his advances. But, I don't know if it was the ship or the guard or the fact I had a headache the size of a bull netch, but that guard just looked strange.

I finally got off the shitp, and made my way to what appeared to be the Exercise Office. Before I got there, though, ANOTHER guy stopped me and asked me what race I was. I thought it was meant to be taken as an insult or a joke, because I'm 100% dark elf - waist down and waist up. But, no, it turned out that the guard was just a bit slow. Poor guy. It's not his fault he was born an Imperial. He really missed out on the sulphuric air that eventually flows over Morrowind and promotes healthy brain growth.

By then, I finally managed to clear my head a bit and look over the scenic town of Seyda Neen. It wasn't that bad looking, although they had a giant tick thing that put a real fear of this place in me.

Spoiler: Scenic, Yeah Right (click to show/hide)

I eventually got into the damn Censorshipcise office only to be asked more questions about my heritage and what sort of a profession I leant myself to. I told him I knew the honourable arts of both combat and magic ( us Dunmer learn both from birth, even if it's just mildly ) and he informed me I'm a Spellsword. Who'd've thunk it?

Of course, I subsequently betrayed everything I'd said and filched everything I could from the place. It turns out it's true. Imperial Law IS ridiculously lax towards immigrants.

In the process of looting the place Whilst I was receiving the brilliant gifts of the mighty Imperial Nation ( I make myself laugh sometimes ), I found an awful magical ring. Really, this thing had barely any enchantments on it at all. I pocketed it, too. You never know when it might come in useful.

Some guy told me some stuff about having to deliver a package for him, but I ignored that and asked him a bunch of irrelevant questions. I also pocketed the key he had lying behind him, but that goes without saying. He then shoved me out of the door, informed that stuff might actually happen out there if I stole things and threw the package ( luckily along with instructions ) at my head.

Some simpering bosmer came up to me and asked me if I'd seen his beautiful shiny ring. I'd heard of this stuff before, and I wasn't going to let him through it into any sort of volcano, but then he offered to tell his friend that I'd helped him out - and apparently that guy could help me fence legitimately sell my stolen legitimately gained goods. I took him up on this, of course.

I went and fenced legitimately sold my stolen entirely legally gained goods. I also bought myself a mismatched set of armour and a not terrible claymore. I do, however, feel some real shame from doing this. I traded with an ALTMER. Daedra-damned finger waving pansies.

Spoiler: Bloody Altmer (click to show/hide)

At least I look pretty dangerous.

Spoiler: Current Looks (click to show/hide)

After that, I went and had a look around. I found some luminous rusella or something, which I've heard gives a real cool trippy glow to skooma if you mix it allows you to find your entirely legal anti-Corprus medicines in the dark if you mix them together. Oh, and I killed a mudcrab. Disgusting creatures. And then I asked a guard about stuff and he tried to force me to join his Imperial Legion or whatever, and that isn't such a bad idea - but it's best to be never too eager. Also, it felt like I was talking to the back of his head.

Spoiler: Drugs (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Mud Crab (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Legion (click to show/hide)

So, yeah, I went and tried to find out how to get to this Balamorya place, and it turns out I can either take the path there which may be filled with lots of stuff to loot and stuff which may have lots of places to procure items of unquestionably legal authenticity or take the Silt Strider up there ( that's what that big weird thing I saw earlier is called, apparently ). Or, you know, I could hang around in Seyda Neen, meddle for a bit and rob wherever this key leads to.

Spoiler: Take The Long Way Home (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Meddle, Meddle, Meddle (click to show/hide)

So, yep, ladies and gents, pretty much three choices. Meddle in Seyda Neen for a bit and get some gold etc or head to Balmora and do the main quest / guild quests. And we can travel via silt strider or the road. Use your choosing abilities NOW.

Alright, my votes:

Race:  Dunmer (Also, seconding LordBucket in favour of female)
Birthsign:  The Lady (Mmmm, endurance...)
Class type:  Axe-wielding warrior with some magic (Restoration, perhaps)
Mods:  I'd say Great House Dagoth (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=801), but of course you'd have to abandon the main quest for that one.  So, actual ones:  Vality's Ascadian Isles (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5981) and Bitter Coast (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=63014&id=5897); especially the latter, since it makes the area actually look like a swamp.

Also, feel free to suggest another way we can go, but dungeon looting at this point is pretty damn deadly.

Also, lol 75 Endurance.

I recommend looting balmora, then heading off to find tarheel.

My vote is to hang out in and around Seyda Neen for a while. Steal stuff gear up. Slaughter talk to some foreign devils nice people.  Gain a level or two just to make life easier.

Also, which mods did you install?

You should stay in seyda neen and meddle with some quests.

I would...

-Investigate the death of the taxman.

-Get the Quest of that north in the tavern/shop. (After you finished it, don`t go back to him. We won`t share loot!)

-Go to the cave near seyda neen and get some loot. If we are lucky we get some skooma and some scrolls- Also free the slaves.

-Loot the warehouse.

Also those heads are fucking ugly- I`d get another mod. For example: Better Heads (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2735)

Might change your face, (hey it`s also my favorite!) but the other npcs will look better.

Bah- You`ll have to give halve the gold away for nothing. (Maybe a reputation point; But i think you`ll don`t even get one.)

Later in the game you can still give him the gold back

Diary Entry: 18th Last Seed

Well, this place isn't SO bad. I decided to stay around for a bit longer and help them sort out their problems. And cause new ones.

I started out the day as usual, making a few potions ( always a useful thing to do ), having a look around and the like. I found out why the water is dangerous around here. I couldn't see anything except this fin sticking up from it, so I got to higher ground only to see a MASSIVE slaughterfish. They don't breed them that big on the mainland.

Oh, yeah, I found out where that key led to. It was a massive storehouse, so I filched some goods legally procured through entirely legal mercantile methods some goods, and then fenced them sold them ( legally, of course ) to that damned Altmer. He looks so smug. I'll get him, one day.

Spoiler: OH SHI- (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Warehouse (click to show/hide)

After being so terrified I made a little guar in my pants mildly shocked at the size of the monster, I decided to take my gaze off it and go talk to others in the village about what's going on.

I found out one of the tax collectors went missing ( big loss hah ), that midget Bosmer had an enemy in a Nord, who wanted me to find out where he was hiding his stuff and one of the guys in the village was depressed.

Spoiler: Oh, Boohoo (click to show/hide)

I decided to sort out the guy with the depression first. After all, I could get paid to murder someone in cold blood! It turned out it was really crappy and to do with ANOTHER ring. I made sure that he didn't want me to just kill him ( he didn't ) and so I bought it off him. It wasn't too bad a ring. Pretty crappy, though. I just sold it to that ugly Altmer.

It started getting dark, and I sped up my ( now literal ) busybody routine accordingly. I mean, time is money, right?

I decided to track down that damned tax collector, so I figured I'd explore the wilderness around Seyda. It didn't take me long to see his body, but I was attacked by a ghost - his I'd guess. These Imperials really don't know how to look after their dead.

It kept paralysing me, and my weapon was doing nothing. I knew I learnt magic for stuff other than stealing things from houses saving people from the vice of greed.

I also got attacked by some hopping thing. That was just odd.

Spoiler: It's The Glowing Eyes (click to show/hide)

Anyhow, I found the guy's corpse ( and stole his things ) ( and obtained his things to give to his nearest family ) and headed back to Seyda Neen. The guy in the Census Office ( the big nosed bastard ) asked me for the gold. I gave it to him ( not a good idea to mess around with Imperials in an Imperial town ) and he said that I should find the murderer.

Oh, and some other guy there offered to send me off to an island filled with undead to recover a shield. I don't think so. Maybe some other time.

Spoiler: Errr... No (click to show/hide)

The guy was apparently putting his Imperial Might onto some Dunmer woman ( race traitors, that saying "Once you go Imp you walk with a limp" really isn't true, or so I've heard ), so I decided to visit there first.

Spoiler: RACE TRAITOR! (click to show/hide)

She told me some stuff about her boyfriend being a nice guy and not her being an Imperial's coin repository how she had only ever seen him arguing with someone once, some guy called Foryn who lived next to the water in one of the shacks. I planned to visit him, but first I had a midget Bosmer to spy on. I also gave her his ring back. She gave me TWO potions. I could've bought three with that bloody thing, and have had a bit left over. Cheap skank.

So, I headed up to the top of the lighthouse, and started watching that sneaky little Bostard Bosmer wander around, until he thought he no one could see him and threw the stuff into a tree trunk in the middle of a bit of swampland.

I ran down the lighthouse quickly ( he really wasn't hiding that well ) and robbed him of all his earthly possessions and repossessed his goods. I knew that damn Nord would send someone after me, so I dropped off his gold and told him where I was headed soon if he needed more work being done. Some woman at the bar overheard me and gave me directions to Balmora, which I suppose was lucky.

Spoiler: Nice Directions! (click to show/hide)

After that, I had only one last thing to do, and that was to visit this Foryn guy and find out if he killed the tax collector. He readily admitted to it, and gave me some spiel about the tax collector being corrupt. I didn't really care since the Imperials would pay better than he could I am a good citizen who believes in the justice of the Emperor. ( Anyway, he called me a lackey of the Empire. What a dick. )

Spoiler: Whine Whine Whine (click to show/hide)

He resisted me bashing his skull in arrest, so I had to beat him down and then go inform the tax collector's boss that I'd found the guy who'd killed his tax collector. He gave me five hundred septims (not bad for murder!) and told me I could have the guy's hut. I figured I could have a decent place to dump my ill gotten goods to sleep and store my mercantile stock because I am a merchant.

Spoiler: Sorry, Chap (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: My HAMMUCK (click to show/hide)

Good night, diary.

New post + Poll up!

The Great Houses of Vvardenfell:
House Telvanni (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:House_Telvanni) - House Telvanni is mainly a house of highly egocentric and ambitious wizards. Here, it is common to rise through the ranks by eliminating or otherwise 'indisposing' other members. Of the Telvanni lords, only Master Aryon of Tel Vos - the youngest and newest councilor - seems able to look beyond the end of his own nose and at the concerns of other people, the rest want little more than to be left alone to their research and ambitions. The rest of the members are similarly isolationist in outlook and do not intend to be presided over by any of the other institutions, predominantly the Guild of Mages.
House Redoran (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:House_Redoran) - The main focus of House Redoran is maintaining the traditions of the settled Dunmer and, more specifically, the way of the warrior. Due to this focus, the Tribunal Temple is a natural ally. There is also mutual respect between them and the Imperial Fighters Guild and Imperial Legion. They have less respect for the other Imperial Guilds (i.e. Mages Guild and Thieves Guild) and the Imperial Cult religion.
House Hlaalu (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:House_Hlaalu) - House Hlaalu can be characterized as opportunistic, as any morals they might have come second to business. House Hlaalu is one of the five remaining Great Houses of the settled Dunmer; their House color is yellow. Its council seat is in Balmora, with other Hlaalu-run towns at Suran, Hla Oad and Gnaar Mok. Hlaalu public buildings — tradehouses and craft guilds, manors and council halls — are designed as simple multi-storied buildings roughly rectangular in plan, featuring arched entranceways and modest decorated exteriors. More modest one-story private dwellings follow the same plan, except with less decoration. Hlaalu plantation estates resemble Temple compounds, with walled precincts enclosing outbuildings for craftsmen and servants, dominated by a grand manor residence in place of a Temple shrine.

It might also be a good idea to consider the other main factions we could join. The Great House Dagoth mod is seperate to these. (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Factions)

Whilst you guys do that, I'll go do the next day!

Take Redoran or telvanni as a great house. IGNORE Hlaalu. Main reason being that you can do an exploit after the main quest is done that automatically makes you master of Hlaalu and you keep your old house as well.

oh, and since you use long blades:

fair enough, though I'd say NEVER use the alchemy exploit. It ruins the game, in my opinion.

As for the blade of white woe, I believe it is not within his immediate reach. The glass longsword is something he can get with zero effort.

Telvanni gives the best rewards in the form of awesome artifacts, but you're going to be doing glorified fetch quests.
Hlaalu rewards are ok and the quests are somewhat interesting.
Redoran rewards suck, but the quests themselves are awesome.

Hlaalu is right out. They're fun, but not good for a LP. I'd say Telvanni if you can levitate, Redoran if you can't.

Diary Entry: 19 Last Seed

Well, I woke up today and it was a truly beautiful day. for stealing people's livelihoods.

Spoiler: Pretty Nice Looking (click to show/hide)

I wandered to the inn, only to get stopped halfway and be informed that a bunch of bandits had ran into town, stolen a bunch of stuff and ran back to their cave with it. I had a lot of respect for these guys at this point. Why no one woke me up when this was happening, I don't know.

Anyway, I ignored everything that the bitch woman was telling me, except for where the cave was, and instead walked towards a tower that I hadn't seen before. I could've sworn it'd just appeared from nowhere. Some slavers had set up shop there, and they said that I could get recruited if I showed up with a few slaves for their leadership. It's apparently not a bad paying job.

So, I took all that into account, and decided to go visit this cave where the pretty cool guys terrible bandits were coming from. I only wanted to talk, but I immediately got attacked by some crazy bitch with a knife. I killed her, of course.

Spoiler: Not Very Well Hidden (click to show/hide)

I got a bit deeper in, got attacked by some crazy wizard guy ( again, killed ) and found a ring of theft or something. With my lifestyle, it may come in useful. I confiscated it to make sure unsavoury types couldn't get it.

Spoiler: Crazy Wizard Man (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Ring (click to show/hide)

I found a key, and soon found the door for it.

It's a slave pen.

Spoiler: Slaves (click to show/hide)

I'm not sure what to do with them. Release or betray the flimsy morals I have return them to their "rightful owners". They're begging me to let them go.

( I installed the Twin Lamps mod (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=190), which lets you join and do a bunch of quests for the Twin Lamps faction or - I think, anyway - the Slavers. Your choice, guys. You might like to remember that Hlaalu and Redoran are against slavery, and Telvanni are for it. )

( Also, I'd rather not do the "Two Houses" exploit, just one for us. =p Your choice. )

It depends on what you use it for. I only ever used it to enchant stuff without paying exorbitant amounts of gold. Though even that can be overused, like giving yourself a 100% chance to dodge damage.

My favorite longsword is umbra(which I found entirely by accident while levitating over a mountain) but it's really only useful if you want to do a lot of enchanting.

1.  No exploits, please.  :P  Though I suppose very light use of the alchemy one would be acceptable.  It's quite possible to use it without abusing it, fortunately.

2.  I vote to join Telvanni, although Redoran would be fine too - the latter is, along with the Imperial Cult, one of the only two I haven't actually gone through the questlines for...

The Imperial Cult is funny, especially if you are into blunt weapons..

So, are we freeing the slaves or not? =p

EDIT: Slaves are getting freed, then. =p

We're joining Telvanni, I think, so keep the little bastards. Also, Hlaalu is kinda pro-slavery. They claim to be against it, but since all of the higher ups in the faction own slaves, well...

Free the slaves!

If you can`t have them, no one can.

Blurgh, the save got corrupted because of plugins. God damn, this is one of the few reasons I hated Morrowind. Does anyone know how to fix it? I could replay the entire thing, but that'd be extremely tedious and I'd be more willing to chuck up an Oblivion LP instead. FAST TRAVEL WOO.

I, too, have never had a save corrupted. All you have to do is use Wyre Mash and Morrowind Code Patch.

Is it possible to use these post-save and fix it?

Feel free to post in the Oblivion thread, if it is - anyway. It might keep me entertained whilst you guys take ages to vote. :3 (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=53929.0)

Wyre Mash might be able to help your save, but I wouldn't bet on it.

You can always make a go at it.  No promises, but it has a chance of working at least. (Well, not the MCP, but Wrye* Mash can)

Hate bugs and corrupted save games?  Just be glad you're not playing Daggerfall. :P I'm surprised I got through my whole Let's Play of that without having one go out on me - and even then I used all six of Daggerfall's slots for backups of varying lenghts in the past, because I knew I had a good chance of needing them...

*Yes, it's "Wrye".  Isn't metathesis fun?
