Title: Dryad Rage: IC Thread
Post by: Supernerd on May 04, 2017, 04:42:55 pm
Spring 1, Year 1

Spring has arrived. The ice and snow melts and the world is once again friendly to new life. In a grassland, a magical tree seed awakens from hibernation and takes root; and the densely packed mana within it takes form, bringing five newborn Dryads into existence.

Your objective is to protect this tree with your life, several times if need be. If the tree dies it is Game Over. There do not appear to be any creatures in the immediate vicinity...

Tutorial - Using Abilities: Even without hostile enemies to target, you are still able to use your abilities. Multiple abilities may be used in one turn. If you choose to use more than one, then each one must be assigned a percentage of your Power Multiplier. For example, ability 1 uses 0.7 multiplier and ability 2 uses 0.3 multiplier. Keep in mind that an ability with a low multiplier is likely to be resisted even by very weak enemies.

Note: Please put your actions in bold, and include your characters name with your post. This information has been recorded on Page 1 of the OOC thread.

"Nnny-yaaaAawwn..." Hikari opens her eyes for the first time. She knows who she is, though she doesn't know why, but whoever these other people are, they would make good friends, surely.

"Hey! Rise n' Shine! It's out first day on this beautiful...well, I don't know what this place is called, but it doesn't matter yet! It's Time to Seize the Day!"

Look for new friends, other than us dryads. A few animal buddies seem like a great place to start! Look for 'em north.

"I will check out the south."
Leaf explores the area southwards of the Tree.

"You're loud. Let the others wake at their own paces." Geos groans at the noise Hikari made, taking a look around. He knows his identity, the information coming to him naturally. The odd experience of suddenly just existing leaves his mind quickly as he looks at all the things that are new to him. His gaze finally returns to the noisy Dryad.  "I am Geos. What is your name, loud one?"

Time for some landscaping. Use Shift Earth to dig as deep as necessary to find soil with adequate mana and nutrients to help the tree flourish while piling excess earth around the hole, then shift the beneficial earth to be directly under the tree's roots, shifting the earth that was previously there along with the other unused earth back into the hole that was presumably dug. Keep any neat shiny rocks or gems I find, though.

It looks as if other's have finally awoken. said a strange looking dryad. He was white, and most closely resembled a birch tree. Ice and snow clung to his head branches, and didn't seem to melt like the rest of the snow around. Strangely, he was devoid of the typical foliage of dryads.  I was just watching the last of winter fade away. Such a shame. Time for introductions, I'm Hiver,
 who might you be?

After meeting the other dryads, explore the north west.

Aster Witherlock takes a long time to awaken but eventually does so after a long warmup period, he slowly scurries away from the centralized area of the tree to do his own business.

Time for a change in identities, utilizing the illusory magic of Disguise Self so that Aster disguises into a young girl at around the age of 10-13, enough where people will think that I'm weak and harmless, yet over-my-head and head strong to be by myself alone in a random forest. Have the disguised figure have long pink hair that reaches to the ground and contains a very high pitched voice. If my character doesn't know what a human looks like, or doesn't know the most common bipedal race around here, than have illusory magic basically replace my Raisin-skin with carbon-based flesh and become very short and slim.

Aster makes a short introduction to all of the fellow dryads and than momentarily goes his own way. "WELL MET everyone, I'm Aster, you don't have to pay attention me.

Than go explore the area westwards after all of those events happen .

Cool trick! Wish I could change my body like that. Not sure if pink hair is common around here, though.. Hikari tried to feel Aster's hair (though she hasn't said her name yet), to find it wasn't actually there. "Oh, it's not real? Well, I guess I'll just have to one-up you one day!"

Aster disguises into a young girl at around the age of 10-13... weak and harmless... very high pitched voice... very short and slim.
Given that your origin tree is 5cm tall, that may be more accurate than you realise... Posting to watch!

Spring 2, Year 1

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Mouse (N): 2/2
Bird (S): 2/2
Cor-Mite x3 (T): 2/2

Hikari decides to explore to the North. There is more grassland over in this direction, in addition to a curious line in the ground where plants are not growing. Her search for animals reveals what appears to be a Giant Mouse! On closer inspection it is actually a regular mouse. It wasn't immediately obvious before, but newbord Dryads are pretty small.

Leaf Vinehead explores the area to the south. More grassland here, and to the east there appears to be some kind of large rocky protusion coming out of the ground blocking vision in this direction.

Geos uses his Shift Earth ability to start digging out a hole. It appears that mana is not something that simply exists in the earth. At around this point Geo becomes aware of his stature. He has dug out a hole that is at least as deep as he is tall and hasn't found much more than soil. There are a couple of rocks, but they aren't especially shiny. He moves some of the soil near the base of the tree, but it seems unwise to try to remove the soil already there as the tree is small enough to be uprooted if you aren't careful.

Hiver explores the area to the northwest, discovering that some of the ground in this direction is absent of vegetation. There is also something that looks sort of like a tree; yet appears to be something else.

Aster Witherlock uses his Disguise Self ability to appear as a young girl. The disguise self ability does not appear to affect things such as voice. It also occurs to Aster... That he is substantially smaller than even a young human! He is however, capable of making an appropriately sized illusion. Aster then moves to the west. There is a section of ground here that does not have any vegetation. Also, there appears to be a Birch Tree here! Its much larger than your own tree, but it is entirely non-magical in nature.

Some strange creatures arrive near the tree. They have six legs, are about two inches tall and have a purple color. They have sharp looking jaws and seem to have a sinister aura.

Tutorial - Critters: When an animal is discovered, its health will be displayed in the thread. It may or may not be hostile; you'll need to exercise judgement when you see them.

Tutorial - Movement: Without special abilities, you can only move one tile per turn. You will also be unable to stray very far from your tree. As the tree grows bigger its influence will spread; permitting you to safely explore further away. Your map will physically expand when this happens.

Aster imitating a young girl enacts a raging tantrum, ""A TREE greater than mine, IMPOSSIBLE Y'HEAR ME. WE NO LIKE COMPETITION".

Sprint up to that Birch Tree, put my hands onto the tree than cast Life Absorption on the tree to sap some of its vitality. It will weakens its ability to grow and maybe I can "transmute" some of the life energy into our tree..
Maybe I'm going to have develop a vitality transmuting spell, who knows.

Attempt to befriend the mouse! If it goes well, ask about taking a ride on it. If not, offer to help it look for food if it's hungry or something. Look over to the northeast of the tree, too.

Geos uses Shift Earth to carefully shift the earth around himself and the tree into a wall to separate them from the mites. If that doesn't deter the mites, hit them with a Geode Bomb.

Geos uses Shift Earth to carefully dig a tunnel downwards at an angle, away from the tree, to see if he finds anything neat or useful beneath the earth.
You're not going to do anything about the mites? There's a fair chance they'll attack you.

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Cor-Mite A (T): 1/2
Cor-Mite B (T): 1/2
Cor-Mite C (T): 2/2

Aster gets offended about the fact that there are other trees, and uses his Life Absoprtion ability on the tree. This seems wrong somehow. The Birch tree does not have any obvious damage on it due to the use of this ability, but Aster can definitely feel life energy going into him. Aster lacks any transmutation abilities that would allow him to use life energy for other things.

Hikari communicates with the mouse. The mouse proves to be easy to befriend, but not much for conversation. All it says are an assortment of squeaking sounds. The mouse begins to follow her around. She then moves to the east; and discovers a line of water. There is also something that appears to be a tree; yet is not a tree levitating above it.

Hiver examines the non-tree object. It appears to be made of wood and has three things that resemble branches. The vegetation at the base of it seems to be a bit longer than the surrounding grass.

Geos uses his shift earth ability to shift the earth around the tree into a wall, though the skill used at half effectiveness does not produce a steep enough obstance to deter the Cor-Mites! Geos then uses a Geode Bomb to attack! However the Geode Bomb that was cased at half effectiveness fails to detonate. It does clonk one of the mites for 1 damage though. With his current level of power, only one ability can be used at optimal strength per turn.

Leaf Vinehead moves back to the three and eyes the Cor-Mites suspiciously... And they do indeed turn hostile! The tree Cor-Mites approach the tree and nibble at it, dealing a total of 3 damage! Not taking kindly to that, Leaf strikes one of them in melee to deal 1 damage! This seems like an inefficient way to fight somehow...

Tutorial - Assets: Through the use of abilities, or random chance you may gain noteworthy allies or constructions that will help you in various ways. The ones that are meaningful enough for the GM to bother keeping track of will go into the Asset spoiler. If your actions do not yield an asset then you may need to invest more effort into it. "Note to self, and maybe Mr. Mau-ecce, too, lear how to speak mau-ecce. Maybe you could learn Dryad, instead".
Something was nicking at the back of Hikari's mind. It felt like something was nicking at her tree. "Um, Mister Mau-ecce, would you mind coming back to the tree with me? Something's wrong.."

Head south, back toward the tree. If riding Mr. Mau-ecce would be fast enough to get back to the tree this turn, do that. Might not be much of a speed boost, but heading diagnally may work.

Cor-Mite x7 (SW): 2/2

It has started raining!

Hikari returns to where the tree is.

Geos uses his Geode Bomb ability to attack Cor-Mite C. This attack sucessfully has taken out its intended target, but using explosives so close to the tree has proven to be a bad idea as the attack has also dealt 1 damage to the tree! Probably justifiable given what you were trying to accomplish.

Leaf Vinehead uses the Draw Blood ability twice at 0.5 effectiveness. The GM wanted to do something to penalize using less than 1.0 effectiveness for any ability, but this situation was actually a suitable time to do it, and the spell is not resisted by either mite, both taking 1 damage! The Cor-Mite incident has been resolved!

Hiver attempts to read the sign. Ok fine, its clearly a sign so I'll start referring to it as such.
Spoiler: Hooray for Reading (click to show/hide)

"What a great place in our valley for a petting zoo; I hope the mites aren't afraid to be pet."

Geos shrugs at Hikari. "Was already planning on it, Noisy. I just need a way to get them under it without disturbing the roots or dirt supporting our tree. Leaf, please don't just dig under the tree. You could damage the roots."

Use Shift Earth to encapsulate the mites in soil, then bury them down off to the side of the tree by shifting the earth below them up and around them, deep enough that they're lower than the roots, but high enough that the roots will grow through them in a little time. Then carefully try to shift the earth containing them to a space under the tree by carefully shifting the excess earth in the way to the sides or behind the corpses, but make sure to do so without damaging the tree's roots or causing the soil supporting the tree to collapse.

Fish (E): 3/3
Cor-Mite A (SW): 1/2
Cor-Mite B (SW): 1/2
Cor-Mite x5 (SW): 2/2

Hikari goes east, and only east because you can only move one tile per turn. (And as stated multiple times already, the mouse is not a suitable mount). In this area, there is a river across the grassland, and rocks to the south. There is a smallish-medium sized Willow Tree by the river.

Leaf Vinehead attempts to bury the dead Cor-Mites... Without any revelant abilities for this task or even specifying how he intends to do this in his post, he is unable to figure out how.

Geos uses his Shift Earth ability to actually bury the Cor-Mites.

Aster Witheredlock decides to pet some Cor-Mites with Life Absorption. And of course, by "Pet" he means attack. And of course, by "Valley" he means grassland. And by "petting zoo"... I don't even know what that is supposed to mean.

Aster drains 1 health from two of the Cor-Mites. This action has caused the Cor-Mites to cease to ignore him, and they quickly swarm him and bite for a total of 6 damage. Guess one of them tripped or something and whiffed the attack. Thats gotta be pretty embarrasing for the mite. Oh, and Aster is dead now. Its just the risk you take for attacking large groups of enemies on your own. Here's a tip for next time. The Life Drain ability can let you heal and attack at the same time, but it is lacking in terms of burst damage and will rarely kill enemies in one turn.

Hiver Frostwild just takes a nap or something.

Tutorial - Mana: Each turn the tree will generate some mana provided unless something is going horribly wrong. The larger the tree is, the more mana you can expect. Mana is shared among all of you which means if you have three mana, only one player can afford the random spell upgrade. It is up to the players to decide how mana may or may not be used. It is worth noting that a dryad needs to be next to the tree in order to be a valid target for its magic. The revival of dead dryads is an exception to this.

Tutorial - Death: A dead character isn't going to do any good for anybody. You can use mana to cast a spell at the tree to revive a dryad. The stronger the dryad, the worse the consequences are for death. A newborn Dryad will not suffer permanent damage of any kind.

Aster Witheredlock is still dead. I guess that explains why I didn't see a post from him.

Hikari Sandashi insists that I pull out my MS Paint and make yet another modification to my map. This tile appears to be the river source. The tall mountains in this tile would make it hard to move further south or east if there weren't already other factors limiting your movement.

Beirus, please include your characters name in your posts. I had to look up who you were.

Geos uses his Shift Earth ability to create a wall of dirt around the tree. You can now check on the wall's progress in the Asset spoiler.

Hiver Frostwild loses his connection to the tree and the newbord tier dryad immediately dies. A new Dryad appears near the tree...

A large monster appears near the tree! It is larger than any other animal that has been seen to date! It has long pointed ears, large herbivorous incisors and muscled legs. It makes a soft purring sound.

Tutorial - New players: If you get the call to action (via PM) then you should post an action in the game thread. If you don't do so on time for the next turn (You will get at least a full 24 hours) then you will be shuffled back to the bottom of the waitlist and another players will get a chance.

Why would the chance make a soft purring sound?

ALL the way up here, people would be bound to hear her. Hikari, seeing the meandering path of the water, had an idea blossom in her head.Hey, Gee! Think you could divert a new path for the wi-iver? Bring some of the water closer to the tree? Should be real nourishing!"

Hikari heads west, back to the tree, and takes a close look at the vegetation on the way there.

Geos offers the rabbit some vegetation that isn't the tree as a friendship offering. If the rabbit attacks me or the tree, Geode Bomb it. Preferably in a way that doesn't hurt the tree, like from the back so its body shields the tree, or from the front if I can get between it and the tree.

Antler wakes up, for the first time in his life, and looks around. He doesn't know much. He knows that he serves 『The Tree』, who is not doing well.

Looking around, he sees a 『Foul Beast』 sniffling near his beloved tree.

Alert! Alert!

Halt! Foul Beast! Begone from this place! You are not welcome here!

Antler flings himself at the monster's nose, hoping that a few painful jabs will encourage the monster to go find food elsewhere.

Take that, And that!

Owl (W): 12/12
Rabbit (NW): 4/5
Cor Mite x2(T): 1/2

The robin takes flight, and it begins to rain!

Hikari returns to the tree, but not before taking note of the vegetation in the southeast. There appears to be some long and flat green plants near the river source.

Geos offers some of the local vegetation to the rabbit. The lack of biodiversity leaves him with nothing more appealing than grass however, which the rabbit doesn't seem interested in.

Leaf Vinehead moves to the west to get to the Willow tree, but eventually realizes that the willow tree was to the east, as he stands before the Birch Tree instead. A large bird can be seen on one of the trees branches, immediately stealing the title of largest known creature from the rabbit. It appears to be asleep.

Antler awakens, and approaches the rabbit. He smacks the rabbit with a pointy appendage to deal 1 damage. The rabbit decides it doesn't want more of that and runs off to the northwest! Antler considers that he should definitely declare the name of an ability if he intends to use it as the GM may not necessarily assume that he intends to use it if he does not.

Aster Witheredlock contemplates his mistakes. Also, apparantly the afterlife is... The tree. It seems that while the tree lives, permanently killing the dryads connected to it is not an easy task. Interestingly, being dead does not seem to prevent Aster from invoking tree-magic; including one particular spell which would revive him!

Oh, and the location of the Cor-mites has become known! They are dangerously close to the tree now.

Tutorial - Strategy: Sometimes you'll be faced with a difficult battle. In these situations, you should consider all the abilities at your disposal including tree spells that use mana. The best solution to a problem is not always the most obvious one.

GM Note: The soft purring sound was supposed to be made by the rabbit. Nevertheless, the opportunity to join the game now canonically makes the same purring sound. That is a thing I decided.

Antler spots the 『Cor Mites』 springing up around the tree.
Ach! One enemy is sent running, and seven more spring up to take his place!

I don't think I can take them on my own, but maybe..

Antler uses 『Wildseed Magic』 to try to erupt thorns out of the ground in an area under the 『Cor Mites』, with the intent to cause damage to multiple Mites at once.

Geos uses Empower Spell on his Geode Bomb and launches it at the biggest group of Cor-mites, or at least the biggest group not close enough to the tree that it will also be damaged.

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Aster Witheredlock invokes the spell Revive (Tier 1) at the cost of 3 mana. That appears to be all it took to bring him back to perfect condition. Hopefully he will not need to cast it again anytime soon.

Antler calls upon the power of the tree to invoke the spell Wildseed Magic at the cost of 2 mana. Thorns erupt from the ground around the Cor Mites, dealing 1 damage to five of them which causes one death. The thorns do not disappear after the spell ends. While Wildseed Magic is certainly effective when used correctly, it also seems inefficient somehow.

Geos calls upon the power of the tree to invoke the spell Empower Spell, and uses Geode Bomb with an effective power multiplier of 2.0. The attack deals 5 damage to one cor mite, 3 damage to another and 1 damage to a third one, inflicting three kills.

Hikari is unable to return to the tree, because that would require her to leave the tree in the first place; she is already there. This does nothing to prevent her from casting Spreading Jolt, dealing 2 damage to one cor mite, and jumping to a second to deal 1 damage, inflicting 2 kills.

Leaf Vinehead waits... and the last Cor Mite has an opportunity to bite Antler to deal 1 damage before Leaf finishes the Cor Mite off using his Draw Blood ability.

Well, it was almost a perfect victory. Assuming you don't count the part where one of you died. And having spent 3 mana. (6 mana if you count the revival)

Hikari takes a look at the soil around the tree. It appears to be fairly normal, though a thourough investigation would require some digging to be done. The tree is capable of growing in the current soil conditions. Whatever is happening, it does not appear to be a dire problem.

Leaf Vinehead moves to the west. The owl still appears to be there.

Displeased with the lack of conversation, Antler moves to the west and climbs up the tree, revealing a section of the aerial map. This tree can surely be utilized in some way...

Geos uses his Shift Earth ability to dig at the ground around the tree, and as he does some noxious fumes come up from the ground. Something bites Geos to inflict 1 damage. And something else bites Geos to deal 0 damage. The corpses have not yet been buried.

Aster Witheredlock decides it would be prudent to immediately go to the place that killed him. He finds... ONE Cor-Mite, and only after looking around for a bit.

Afterwards, he takes one of the strong (2.0) crystals left over from previous Geode bombs and smashes all the visible mite corpses to paste, just in case they multiply through spontaneous generation from corpses like the Dryads did from the tree.

Geos launches a Geode Bomb with caution. Unfortunately getting a shot that wouldn't damage himself or the tree proves to be difficult, as they emerged from the ground very close to the tree. One of them takes 1 damage from the bomb, but Geos couldn't get the other one within the radius without risking a hit on the tree. The surviving one attacks Geos to deal 1 damage. Taking the time to butcher dead things seems unwise when living hostile remain. (In the future, if you can specify you want to do so even if it means turning your back to a hostile critter)

Antler takes a look at the owl. As it appears to be sleeping, it doesn't seem to be an immediate danger. Antler is able to climb only a little bit higher, and takes a look around. In the distance to the southwest there appears to be something large. It is brown in colour, yet is unlike a tree...

Aster witheredlock attacks the Cor-Mite using Shadow Asphyxiation, dealing 1 damage. The Cor-Mite is held by the tendrils and unable to counterattack.

Hikari uses Firelight to focus starlight on one of the dead Cor-Mites. The corpse appears to be partially liquified, even before any casting is done. The fire starts to spread to the nearby grass... But the high humidity prevents it from burning and it quickly dies down...

The location of the previously tamed mouse is currently unknown...

Leaf Vinehead looks for branches on the ground. Finding a small branch proves to be an easy task, but it seems as though it would be a poor weapon in its current state.

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Deer (T): 60/60

Squirrel (W): 3/3

Summer has arrived! The sky starts to turn a yellowish color.

Aster Witheredlock maintains the Shadow Asphyxiation, dealing 2 damage to the Cor-Mite. The Cor-Mite ceases to be an immediate problem.

Antler decides to return to his tree to help defend it without taking the time to slowly descend from the branches of the birch tree. Whump! That is the sound of Antler plummeting to the ground. He takes 2 damage from the impact. At the very least he arrives in time to attack the Small Cor mite with his Morningstar ability to inflict 2 damage to it.

Geos grabs one of the better crystals to bash what remains of the Cor-Mites: However before he gets a chance it occurs to him that the remains of the Cor-Mites are already in a liquid form. It seems that this is just what happens to deceased Cor-Mites. Geos smacks them anyway, runining a perfectly good crystal shard in the process and getting purple gunk all over himself.

A giant monster has appeared near the tree, dwarfing all previously sighted monsters! It is a quadruped with four long legs, which is brown in color.

Leaf Vinehead and Hikari Sandashi just sort of space out for not having posted for long enough for the update to come without them.

Mystery Thing (WW): 20/20

Leaf Vinehead gathers some tree junk and lugs it back home. I guess that'll go into the asset section.

Antler looks at a thing... Oh dear, its a deer.

Paying no attention to the deer, Geos works on improving the dirt walls, extending them up to 5cm.

Aster Witheredlock attempts to return to the tree by going northwest. Instead of northeast where the tree actually is. However, he is unable to move this direction because he can only move so far from the tree but whoooooa! Hold on. He WAS able to move! Even further to the west a lot of sand can be seen. There is an object nearby which is like a tree, yet is most certainly not a tree. The object is like a square.

Remember kids, west is to the left. You can easily remember this fact because both west and left are four letter words.

Hikari Sandashi attempts to befriend the deer. The deer doesn't say anything in response, but if it could then it probably would have nagged you about remembering to include your characters name in your action post. The Deer (which appears to be female, but you aren't 100% certain that it isn't transgendered or something) doesn't seem to want to make friends, but at least it doesn't immediately turn hostile or nibble at the tree, so thats something.

Antler is prepared to hurl himself deer-wards should it prove necessary.

Thing the GM says - Theoretical difficulty: This isn't a gameplay mechanic (or so I say) but hypothetically if I were going to scale the difficulty of the game off any one thing, it would be total mana generated and not current amount of Dryads. Just saying.

While Geos appreciates votes of confidence towards him using the mana, he doesn't want to use any mana just yet and will actively try to prevent anyone else trying to waste mana on things through his link to the tree for now.
Since the deer doesn't seem hostile at the moment, he will also spend this turn using Shift Earth to check the topsoil around the tree carefully, and not if doing so would damage his wall or the tree/roots, to confirm the quality of the soil and aerate it for better quality.

Aster Witheredlock moves Northeast, and encounters something. Two large quadrupedal creatures are pulling something that is like a tree, yet is not a tree. There is also another large creature on the not-tree. It appears to be moving Northwest at a fast speed.

Leaf Vinehead moves east towards the willow tree. Splish! That is the sound of Leaf Vinehead falling into the river, which was directly between him and the tree. A fish looks at Leaf and sort of makes a funny face. The river is pushing Leaf Vinehead north-wards. Any attempt to use tree-magic to increase Leaf Vinehead's tier was fizzled by dryad disagreement.

Antler decides not to spend mana, and causes a new game rule to be implemented, and moves to the north... Nothing interesting going on here right now.

Geos checks the soil... Its got purple in it. Its also starting to get dry from all the summer heat. Attempting to Aerate the soil causes something to come out of it!

The deer consumes the Birch Tree Matter that was left on tile T. Herbivore alert!

New Rule: As of now, it is a rule violation to contradict yourself in your action posts. Hikari Sandashi attempts to convince the Deer to not make a snack out of the Dryad tree. The deer looks at the wilted leaves and seems to agree that it isn't hungry enough to want to eat it. The deer leaves to the west and Hikari goes the other way.

Antler goes back to deal with the Cor-Mite with a Morningstar attack, inflicting 3 damage to the Small Cor-Mite. Thats one less problem to deal with.

Aster Witheredlock does his best dwarf impression and asks the dwarf why he is in the general area. The dwarf responds by saying something to the extent of "Where d'ya think you cantankerous shoe-chewer? Hauling m'goods to Port Valor!" the Dwarf doesn't stick around long enough for any followup questions and the Construct speeds away.

Goes starts to dig a trench in the direction of the river. The carving in the ground is quite shallow and will require some more effort to be useful for water transport.

Leaf Vinehead makes an attempt to escape from the river, and attempts to grab the fishes tail. The fish wants none of that and swims away as fast as it can. Antler invokes the spell New Dryad, prompting the GM to look up one of his rules. You need to be next to the tree to be a valid target for its magic... So if you are invoking a spell that doesn't affect yourself then... I guess you don't need to be next to the tree to do that. Ok.

Call appears near the tree...

Aster Witheredlock moves northeast, forcing the GM to draw up a new tile on that map... And done. There appears to be an actual forest to the north. There is a group of Cor Mites in the area. By which I mean 16. Yep.

Geos works on expanding the trench. The rainwater makes the earth easier to work with, and the trench is almost complete. Soon you will be able to get water to the tree. The tree that is currently being rained on. Oh, and there are some Cor Mites in the area.

Call, seeing the danger the cor mites to the east pose to the tree, goes to the E tile and uses gust on all the cor mites, summoning an unnaturally strong eastward wind to blow them as far east as possible.

He then shouts through the roaring wind "Geos, I'll hold them back, you hit them with your Geode bomb!"

Screamy (NE): 5/5
Cor Mite x16 (NN): 2/2
Cor Mite (E): 2/2
Cor Mite x2 (E): 1/2
Woodpecker (T): 8/8

Hikari Sandashi heads to the east... Meaning the GM has to make a new tile now. The mountain area in the south looks even higher here. There are also some objects that appear to be a tree, yet are not trees at ground level.

Call heads east to deal with Cor Mites, using Gust to try to blow them away, dealing 1 damage to three of them. It appears that call does not have the required power multiplier to be able to blow them out of the tile entirely.

Leaf Vinehead attempts AAAA. to talk to AAAA. the AAAA. Screamy. It is AAAA. most assuredly AAAA. responding, but AAAA. not in a AAAA. way that AAAA. you can understAAAA.nd. Since it AAAA. does technically respond AAAA. I guess AAAA. that means Leaf AAAA. does not AAAA. intend to move AAAA. this turn? AAAA. AAAA. Its too bad AAAA. Leaf doesn't AAAA. have AAAA. an ability that AAAA. lets him AAAA. communicate with AAAA.nimals

Antler uses Regeneration to heal 2 health from the readily available rainwater and returns to the tree. A medium bird has been sighted near the tree.

Goes uses a Geode Bomb on the Group of Cor-Mites. It appears that they have been spread out by the previous gust attack, making it hard to hit many of them at once. Geos deals 2 damage to one, and 1 damage to another, defeating two of them. Three of the Cor Mites have been displaced and are not in a position to attack, but one of them bites Geos for 1 damage.

Aster Witheredlock AAAA. moves southeast AAAA. towards the bridge AAAA. There is AAAA. something AAAA. very loud AAAA. here. Leaf seems AAAA. to be trying AAAA. to talk to AAAA. it.

AAAA.ster Witheredlock AAAA. uses his AAAA. Shadow Asphixiation aaaa. ability on aaaa. the Screamy, aaaa. inflicting 1 damage to aaaa. it.

Leaf Vinehead moves to the south and uses his Draw Blood ability twice at half effectiveness, inflicting 1 damage to one Cor Mite, but the other one resists the feeble spell.

Geos uses a Geode bomb on the remaining mites, dealing 2 damage to one, and 1 damage to the other. Unfortunately, the mite that took the majority of the hit was the already injured one. Geos then returns to the tree... And having had no objections Geos casts Tier Incease on himself!

The Cor Mite that still lives bites Leaf Vinehead to deal 1 damage.

Antler gently prods the woodpecker. The woodpecker does not appreciate being gently prodded, and pecks Antler to deal 2 damage. The woodpecker then flys away.

Fish x2 (E): 3/3
Fish (E): 7/7
Screamy (NE): 4/5
Goat (S): 70/70
Cor Mite x19 (T)

Call uses breath of life to hael Geos for 1 health. Just 16 more to go! Noteworthy is the fact that Call could only barely reach Geos from a different map tile.

Hikari Sandashi heads east to investigate the river. There appear to be some fish in there. The river itself flows to the north, and is likely to be an obstacle if you try to cross it on tile E.

Aster lets aaaa. up on his aaaa. attack, and AAAAAAAA. inspects the Screamy. AAAA. AAAA. It looks sort AAAA. of like a bird AAAA. without wings AAAA. or legs. AAAA. It does not AAAA. stop screaming. AAAA. It could probably AAAA. be picked AAAA. up by a AAAA. larger Dryad. AAAA. Aster heads back to the tree.

Leaf Vinehead uses Draw Blood to finish off the remaining Cor-Mite in the east tile.

Geos attempts to Adapt himself to his current environment... This does not appear to work. This is most likely due to the fact that as a Dryad of the tree you are basically adjacent to, you are adapted to surviving in this very specific area by default. This might be possible in a different environment should you ever have a reason to travel away from the tree for extended periods of time. It would be more effective on non-dryads.

Antler moves south. He encounters a large Quadruped. It does not appear to notice him.

The Cor-Mites that were previously sighter have arrived near the tree! Perhaps you could have done more to prepare for such an assault. Making things worse, a few more wander in from the southeast!

Fish (E): 7/7
Goat (S): 70/70
Cor Mite x6 (T): 2/2
Cor Mite x6 (T): 1/2
Small Cor Mite x3 (T): 1/1

Call casts Empower Spell and uses his Gust ability on the Cor Mites. Attempting to hit all of them spreads even the empowered spell too thin, only dealing 1 damage to 7 of them.

Aster Witheredlock casts Tier Incease on himself... Then casts Life Absorption twice at half effectiveness. It turns out that you can indeed act on the same turn as a tier upgrade... But the power multiplier does not increase immediately. Aster deals 1 damage to one Cor Mite, and another one shrugs off the effect. He would have been healed for 1 health, but again, I am going to say that the new max health doesn't kick in until next turn.

Geos uses the last bit of mana from the tree to heal himself, then casts a quantity of Cor-Mites based on an IF statement. Lets see... There are two groups of them, one big and one small, so they are not ALL in a big group, so two Geode Bombs at 1.0 effectiveness. Geos deals 3 damage to one Cor Mite, 2 damage to 3 Cor Mites and 1 damage to 4 Cor mites. In his caution to not hit the tree, some crystal fragments instead strike the wall and breach it!

Antler uses his Morningstar ability to deal 3 damage to one Cor Mite, and keeps rolling enough to deal 1 damage to another Cor Mite unintentionally.

Leaf Vinehead chucks some rocks from the East. He is unable to throw them far enough to reach the Cor mites from there however...

Hikari Sandashi takes no action despite having been given plenty of time to do so.

The Cor Mites attack! A few of them were displaced by the wind, and a few of them take a bit of time to climb up the short wall. The rest of them are in biting range! Geos takes 2 damage, Antler takes 1 damage, and the Tree takes 5 damage. A few small Cor Mites emerge from the ground!

GM Note: Keep an eye on the OOC thread! It will become easier for an player on the waitlist to take the place of an active player in the near future. You can avoid this fate by consistently posting an action shortly after each update.

Call unimaginatively does the same thing two turns in a row, casting an empowered gust to inflict 1 damage to six Cor mites and 1 damage to one Small Cor Mite.

After making the GM ponder whether or not he should get on Japa's case for only having a crossed out version of their character's name in their action post, Antler Uses his Morningstar ability to inflict 2 damage to one of the Cor Mites.

Hikari Sandashi returns to the tree and attempts to use Focus Firelight twice, but both attack attempts are resisted by the Cor Mites. Perhaps if the attack was more... Focused... It would have worked better.

Leaf Vinehead casts Blood Drain twice, dealing 1 damage to one of the Cor Mites, and being shrugged off by anther. This ability seems less than optimal against such small enemies.

Aster Witheredlock uses Life Absorption twice at 1.0 power, dealing 1 damage to one of the mites and 2 damage to another. Only 2 health was absorbed however.

Geos aims to use two Geode Bombs... But most of the remaining Cor Mites are right near the tree. Geos does 2 damage to one Cor Mite, and 1 damage to one Small Cor Mite, having not found a good place to use the Geode Bombs.

What remains of the Cor Mites attack, dealing 1 damage to Aster Witheredlock, 1 damage to Leaf Vinehead and 2 damage to the tree.

Call uses 1 mana to empower gust, doing the same action three turns in a row for a weaker than normal spell. It deals 2 damage to one Cor Mite and 1 damage to another.

Leaf Vinehead waits for the opportunity to cast Drain Blood on the Manaworm... The opportunity doesn't come, it has already been dealth with.

Geos uses the best crystal that he can find and smacks a Cor Mite with it to deal 1 damage. It seems that all of the best crystals are gone now. In their current state, the crystal fragments are not very lethal.

Aster Witheredlock casts Shadow Asphxiation on the small Cor Mite to deal 1 damage, and Life drain on the last one to deal 2 damage. Only 1 health was absorbed however. Same issue as before being that someone else already weakened it.

It is now Autumn! Since it is autumn, the sky is obviously pink!

Hikari Sandashi moves south, and looks around for animals... There are a couple of Birds in the area.

Call uses a decidedly non-empowered breath of life on Geos to heal 1 health. The GM almost explains why a non-empowered breath of life is the logical choice, but realizes that the players may not fully understand why already, and chooses not to give more hints.

Aster Witheredlock moves northeast... And no screams can be heard! Clearly there is no Screamy here anymore. Something else can be heard though. It sounds like "Yipyipyipyipyipyipyipyip". A medium creature is hopping about exitedly here.

Geos continues digging the trench, more easily making progress with a more potent Shift Earth ability. It looks like it might work, but there is no way to know for sure before actually testing it out. Also, it would need to breach the previously created dirt barrier in order to reach the tree.

Leaf Vinehead moves southeast. The terrain to the South, East and Southeast appears to be impassable. There is a waterfall here, and at least one thing is causing sparkles and bubbles.

Antler moves Southeast and uses his regeneration ability at the readily available water to heal 2 health. Hooray for water!

The rat is scratching at the ground. Nobodies acorn waggles.

Aster Witheredlock attempts to disguise himself. It turns out that using a very weak spell instead of an excrutiatingly weak spell does not permit you to bend the mechanics of the spell. The disguise attempt makes Aster Witheredlock appear to be something... Bipedal and weird. Aster does not approach the dog. The dog seems surprised for a moment. The dog then approaches Aster, and sniffs at him. Then says "Yip yip yip yip yip!" So... Thats at least one reason why you would need a different spell for this situation.

Leaf Vinehead returns to the tree and wastes some perfectly good mana upgrading himself to the next tier.

Call continues to breath, healing Geos for 1 health.

Geos makes some adjustments to the dirt wall.

Antler uses regeneration to top off his health, then heads to the Southwest.
Hikari also goes to tile SS.
Getting to this tile from the north is only barely possible. A steep cliff blocks any conventional means of travel to the south. You might be able to see more with some kind of special ability.

The rat takes its leave of tile T and heads West.

Hikari heads north. Please don't replace me, Crazyabe. My Focus Firelight would be useful in the Winter for melting snow..or if it gets really dark, I can keep the tree supplied with ample sunshine. In 2-3 turns. If some bear or something comes rampaging, I could calm it down and keep the tree safe.

Rat (W): 5/5
Dog (NE): 15/15
Bear (S): 300/300

Geos continues to Shift Earth to build up the wall. Now it is about as high as it can get without compromising its structural integrity or converting it into an easily climbable mound.

Call uses Speedy Escape to head north. Being only barely into tile SS, he is able to get back to tile T.

Aster Witheredlock tries petting the dog, the physical contact pretty much eliminating any semblance of illusion, if the dog ever cared about that in the first place. The dog makes a funny sound and stares at Aster...

Antler uses... What? Rejuvenation? The GM takes a look at the spell list and finds no such spell in Antler's repetoire. You probably meant Oasis, but since you named that spell yourself I see no reason why you would get it wrong. So Antler just heads north.

Leaf Vinehead heads southeast and inspects the Glittering Water. Only, it does not appear to be glittering right now. It seems that whether or not the water appears glittery is dependant on something? There appears to be a large object under the water.

Hikari Sandashi heads north.

The birds in area S fly away. Probably because of the presence of a very large beast here, once again breaking the record for largest known creature.

Rat (W): 5/5
Dog (E): 15/15
Bear (SW): 300/300
Bird x2 (E): 2/2
Robin (E): 2/2

Antler invokes Replace Dryad to voluntarily return himself to the tree, and the tree is able to birth a new Dryad almost instantaneously! Nute appears at the tree. (Warning: If RAM isn't able to post a first action within 72 hours he will be auto-replaced.)

After tripping or... something like that. I'm not entirely sure what caused the GM error. Anyway, Call finds his way to tile NN. A lot of leaves appear to be falling from the trees in this area.

Geos distances himself from his previous construction and begins to dig a hole at an angle. The topsoil appears to go down a bit over 10 centimeters. Below that, Geos has stuck Subsoil! Packing additional soil into the wall causes gravity to bring it down at the sides. The wall as it is may be better supported but its walls are now slanted which would make it easier for intruders to climb.

Aster Witheredlock attempts to establish dominance, and is able to safely coax the dog over to tile E. Aster is able to find a few birds in the area but most of them appear to be flying.

Hikari (Who didn't include her character's name, but its pretty obvious it is Hikari), moves south to tile SS, passing the bear and tries to get the bears attention from way over there. The bear ignores her however and wanders to the west. Maybe it couldn't hear her?

Leaf Vinehead throws a rock. The object does not move an inch. Leaf Vinehead jumps into the water, and quickly discovers that the water is actually connected to the river to the north. The water currents forcibly move Leaf Vinehead to tile E before he can investigate the object!

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Dog (E): 15/15
Rat (T): 5/5

Nute heads to the East to look for a broad-looking shrub. The closest he is able to find is a normal looking one that is very close to the river.

Call attempts to gather all of the fallen leaves. This task proves to be difficult because there are literally thousands of them. The quality of the fallen leaves is questionable too, but thanks to the inherent bonus that Dryad's get to actions involving trees Call is still able to put some leaves together in a manner that resembles a kilt. It has no obvious practical use however.

Geos fixes up the wall by removing the dirt from the outer area, slightly reducing the walls height. Now it is only easy to climb if you already are on the inside of the wall. Geos places the extra dirt outside to make fortifications... Which are now basically just piles of dirt. It is becoming abundantly clear that dirt is not the best tool for making fortifications.

Hikari Sandashi has Increase Tier invoked upon her, and ascends to tier 2.

Aster Witheredlock casts Shadowy Asphyxiation on one of the birds, dealing 2 damage to it. The other birds fly away. He then offers the bird carcass to the dog. The dog sniffs at it a bit, then decides it would rather roll around on top of the bird than eat it.

Leaf Vinehead has difficulties escaping the river current to return to the tree, but this quickly proves to be irrelevant as this particular spell has a surprisingly far reach. Leaf Vinehead willingly returns to the tree so that a new Dryad can come forth.

Harry Bugg appears at the tree...

Nute invokes Best Bush on a Bush on tile E. View the Assets spoiler for details. Nute currently lacks the ability to cause substantial growth, but the bush can be used to channel Nute's abilities. Experimentation may be required.

Geos check on the rat. It is currently digging at the wall around the tree... Which isn't inherently hostile. Geos continues to dig the hole, which remains stable for the time being. Geos discovers trace amounts of clay in the hole in addition to regular dirt.

Hikari Sandashi goes to the north. As she is currently on the opposite end of the tree, Call is unable to hear her. Though it seems that being connected to the same tree sort of allows the local dryads to understand eachother to some extent without actually being next to eachother. Hikari is still able to gather some leaves though, they are especially easy to find in autumn.

Aster Witheredlock attempts to tempt the dog with the bird carcass. The dog... Sort of wanders off to the west. I guess being rolled on didn't make the bird any more appetizing.

Call... Um. Ok I guess? Call is just sort of dancing. A rabbit pokes its head out of a hole in the ground in the vicinity.

Harry Bugg fades away, and Bob appears at the tree.

Geos hates rats trying to take down his wall. Geode Bomb the rat. Standard considerations for tree safety. If I have to, I'd rather have the wall as collateral damage instead of the tree, but I'd rather not have that be an issue.

Bob considers his options.

Hikari Sandashi returns to the tree with some leaves...

... Nute casts compost on some collected leaves to produce some compost to put around the tree. Only a minor amount of compost was produced from the leaves, but the small tree probably doesn't need much anyway.

Geos decides to attack the rat using a Geode Bomb, dealing 3 damage to the rat. The rat does not appreciate being Geode-bombed and goes to bite Geos to deal 2 damage. The Geode Bomb ability seems unsuited for attacking enemies that are near beneficial fortifications, and once again the wall looks like it needs a bit of touching up. (But at least that is pretty easy).

There is a dog near the tree now. It starts to talk. It says "Yip yip yip yip yip!". The dirt wall is too small to impede the movements of this animal and it easily gets next to the tree. It sprays the tree with a yellow fluid.

Call dances and kicks the rabbit, dealing 1 damage. The rabbit retreats to the east. Call would have needed to stop dancing to have any realistic chance of catching up to the innocent rodent, and this GM assumes that he does not intent to stop dancing yet.

Aster Witheredlock spaces out. It seems the waitlisters dropped the ball and missed their opportunity to take over the spot!

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Dog (T): 15/15
Rabbit (NNE): 4/5
Cor-Mite x28 (N): 2/2

Nute moves to the tree tile. Nute invokes Random Spell, and the spell Weed Spores pertaining to the Noxious Breath skillset has been added to his list of abilities. See the second post in the IC thread for more details. Nute also uses Compost on the yellow fluid, which does not change much. It seems it was already in a reasonably beneficial state for the tree to begin with. (This action should have failed because he did not move to the tree, but the GM already did all the necessary paperwork needed to add a new spell and didn't want to undo all of that.)

Hikari attempts to befriend the dog. The dog walks up to her and starts to sniff at her. Hikari then considers what the dog just did near the tree... She determines that there is only one kind of yellow fluid that is emmitted by dogs on occasion.

Geos casts Geode Bomb on the rat, dealing 4 damage which kills the rodent. Geos then invokes Heal at the cost of 1 mana to instantly heal 5 health.

Call... Just sort of keeps dancing. I think this is about the end of this seemingly pointless dance? This isn't some kind of GM secret action thing. This GM does like to keep secrets, but there is no secret behind this. Its just sort of a weird thing that Call decided to do.

ATHATH neglected to include his character's name in his post. Since he was recently accepted the GM will overlook it this time, but you are supposed to include your characters name in your action posts. Wild Shape does not actually come with a list of forms, so forms cannot really be added to it. Bob takes the shape of a bird. Because no direction was specified, the GM picks one at random, which turns out to be North. A large amount of dark purple-ish insects can be seen on this tile.

Aster Witheredlock falls over. RAM cannot take over anyones spot because he is not on the waitlist. If you want to play the game, make sure you are on the waitlist on the second post of the OOC thread. For reasons too obvious to mention, being in the game already counts as not being on the waitlist. Also, nobody can call dibs on a spot. Anyone else on the waitlist had a window of time about 24 hours in length to take over Aster's spot and missed it.

Update - Ability Use: For best results it would be ideal if you would always include the name of any ability that you want to use. The GM may not always assume you want to use an ability even if it should seem obvious.

Geos goes back to digging further down using Shift Earth, continuing the slope of the hole into a tunnel through the clay area and making sure the walls and ceiling are packed so they don't collapse. Any excess dirt will go to buildings towards the north border of the tree tile. Mounds, hills, and small walls, checkerboard patterns, whatever would make the terrain more difficult for terrestrial creatures other than the Dryads to traverse.

Dog (T): 15/15
Rabbit (NNE): 4/5
Cor-Mite x21 (N): 2/2
Cor-Mite x6 (N): 1/2

Nute uses his Stink-Mouth ability to make the northern portion of tile T smell atrocious.

Call thinks about breakdancing, and moves south to where the Cor-Mites are and decides to attack a large group of them on his own. His gust attack inflicts 2 damage to one of the mites, and 1 damage to six others. The other 21 Cor-Mites turn hostile and quickly swarm Call and even without the self imposed speed penalty that came along with his dancing call is unable to avoid them. Call is bitten for a total of 16 damage. It is too bad that Call wasn't around to learn when a very similar mistake was made by a certain other dryad.

Hikari Sandashi invokes Random Spell, and gains the "Starlight Grenade" ability. See the second post for more details. Hikari then attempts to mount the dog, which I can only assume means "ride on its back". The dog seems to be just a little bit too small for an adolescent Dryad to ride on however. It barks a bit and crawls out from underneath Hikari.

Bob flies to the north and discovers that he passed by all the insects without finding any obvious leaders. They are not heading towards the tree, possibly because they were distracted by a certain other dryad. There appears to be a few dead rats in this area, if that is the kind of thing that would catch your attention.

Geos continues to dig using Shift Earth, bringing up enough clay to roll into a ball along with yet more dirt. Geos spreads the dirt around, but quickly finds that the wall around the tree is probably the extent of what Geos can make using dirt as a material.

Aster Witheredlock fades away, and Antherus emerges!

Geos uses Shift Earth to dig further down through the clay, this time attempting to make a tunnel below the surface and making sure to pack the clay/clay-soil mix into the walls and ceiling so the tunnel won't collapse on him. Actually, if it's viable he also uses the strongest Geode crystals to make support beams while tunneling with Shift Earth.

Nute invokes Revive to bring Call back to life and continues to use Stink Breath. The air appears to be dissipating the scent as quickly as it is being reapplied, so this will be an ineffective way to maintain a protective stink barrier.

Luckily luckily VERY luckily for Call, he is NOT able to act immediately upon revival.

Antherus travels north. To where all the Cor-Mites are. Alone. And attempts to coax the Cor-Mites to follow him. The Cor-Mites ignore Antherus however, and wander off to the east.

Bob, neglecting to include his characters name in his post, Attempts to scout the area to the east. He quickly finds himself to be at the maximum possible distance from the tree and involuntarily turns back. If the tree had a stronger presence, it would be possible to travel further from it.

Geos continues to dig his tunnel, repacking some of the clay into the walls in the hopes of reinforcing them. Geo considers using Geode Crystals to make support beams, but the jagged remains of the geode bombs are woefully unsuited for this task, being too small and misshapen to make for a decent support beam. Particles of dirt begin to fall behind Geo, suggesting that the dirt above might not be adequately reinforced by the dirt that was used to reinforce it. Geos discovers some small stones underground.

Hikari travels to the south and is easily able to find some small stones in the area at the base of the mountain. Hikari infuses a stone with starlight to create a Starlight Grenade. See the Asset spoiler to take stock of Starlight Grenades.

The dog wanders off to the North.

Hikari returns to the tree, and looks around the tunnels and incomplete irrigation system. Are there any worms or other such organisms in them? Then, examine the stones in the tunnel. If there's not anything notably different about them from the stone I chose, make two half-power Grenades from them. Lastly, point out that Antherus forgot to mention his name.

Edit: Since we had 10 mana last update, too, and no-one spended any more, we should have 12 mana now, so spend that on tier retention upgrade.

Nute Vetoes Geos's random spell acquisition as revenge for implying that we are on a merit system when clearly it is, should, and shall always be, powered by lolrandom(Besides, Geos has the record for teamkills). Also for the whole "no random spell for you but gimme a random spell" thing which is frequently legitimate but looks enough like blatant hypocrisy that one can get away with complaining about it and nobody will say anything and who doesn't love cheap, unjustified wins? Mostly because it was cool when Nute did it but if everyone does it then it will stop being trendy, on account of being a trend, umm...

Possibly we may want to save up for the tier preservation thing too, if high tiers keep dropping... but really, who cares about frivolous things like that?

Winter 1, Year 1

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Dog (NN): 15/15
Rabbit (N): 4/5
Bird (S): 2/2

Winter has arrived, the ice and snow return and the world is once again giving new life the middle finger. Your tree enters a state of hibernation, and cannot produce mana. Hope you weren't taking it for granted!

The wildseed thorns have died.

Antherus casts Identify Plants on tile N... And learns that some of the grasses on this tile are used for insects during the winter month.

Hikari Sandashi returns to the tree and looks around for worms. She is able to confirm the existence of them, though they are not generally going to appear as creatures in the area due to being mostly irrelevant in any combat. She creates two Starlight Grenades with 1 effective level.

Nute heads to the east and uses Best Bush to try to alter the nutrients that the Best Bush uses. However, the only thing that you know about the Cor-Mites diet is that they bite at the Dryad Tree, and that isn't even concrete proof that their intention is to use that for nourishment. Attempting to cast Best Bush on the bush has an interesting effect however. A nearby different bush has become a "Best Bush's Best Bush", which is more or less the same as a Best Bush, except instead of being your Best Bush, it is the Best Bush's bush. Curious.

Geos takes the small stones aboveground and uses Shift Earth to reinforce the wall. Small Stones appear to be a much better building material than dirt.

Nute disputes the use of random spells at this time. For reasons.

Due to various disagreements, no tree magic has been invoked, with the exception of Call's undisputable choice to invoke Replace Dryad upon himself. Call returns to the tree and Thorn emerges from it in his place.

Bob heads towards the trench, but is unable to reach it this turn. He is now at tile N. (In order to cast Wild Shaping, you would need to declare a definitive form)

Reminder - Power Multiplier: Each turn you are limited by your power multiplier. If you want to use more than one ability you will need to assign parts of your multiplier to several different abilities. It is legal to use less than 1 power for a spell, but not generally recommended.

Supernerd, this ability makes me wonder...what't the ruling on abilities that multiple dryads could have? Bob has the skill Wild Shape in his non-combat skillset, Transmutation, while the skill itself could fit under Hikari's non-combat skillset, Animals. Would it be reasonable for there to be some discount or such on gaining an ability another Dryad has Perhaps some sort time spent with one dryad teaching the other the skill? Probably just some mana discount on getting it, though.

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Rabbit (N): 4/5
Bird (S): 2/2
Human (NE): 40/40

Nute moves north to get to tile NE and uses Weed Spores on the ground... It seems that winter is too harsh even for weeds to grow however, though the spore's toxicity remains the same.

Hikari Sandashi attempts to make a snow angel. And succeeds! There is now a warped Hikari Sandashi-shaped hole in the snow. Hikari Sandashi then uses Focus Firelight at some distance from the tree, but not enough distance to leave tile T. There is now a non Hikari Sandashi-shaped hole in the snow too. For a moment it seems like the ability may be less effective on snow, but it then becomes apparant that the problem is that the star is not as bright as usual right now.

Geos brings some small rocks topside and creates a small pile of small rocks. You will require a more specific design than "Defensive Fortification" if you want to build anything out of them however, as the GM cannot think of any defensive fortifications that can be made with such small rocks.

Antherus moves to the southeast and casts Identify Plants... And learns that Dryads get a substantial bonus to any action that involves trees, even if they are not magically connected to them. Note that if you want to search for specific plants on a tile or target them with an ability, you may need to specifically do so. Antherus attempts to invoke Random Spell, but is disrupted by other dryads. There is a human in this area.

Bob casts Wild Shape to transform into a wolf, and discovers that the there is at least one restricting factor on the ability that prevents him from becoming a large wolf. He cannot take the shape of anything larger than the tree no matter how powerful this ability is, and the effectiveness of a form cannot exceed his power multiplier. Even with the shape of a small wolf he is still able to complete the trench. Almost no water flows immediately however, as the surface of the river is now frozen and the trench is very shallow.

Thorn fades away, and Tesipha Oakheart emerges from the tree.

Human (E): 40/40
Strange Sounds (SS)

Antherus attempts to use Identify Plants on the tree, which is actually exactly what he used it on last turn... It actually does not have leaves. Its branches just have the same shape in the winter. Antherus then moves south. There is a frozen waterfall in this area.

Nute attempts to compost the toxicity. It is not possible to compost a single specific aspect of an object; so the entire spore would need to be composted. While this action does work, it produces a very small amount of compost. The human moves to the south.

Geos uses Shift Earth to use some small stones to begin to build a wall around the northern border of tile T. This will be a much larger project than the trench or the wall around the tree, and can take a great many turns, and the small rocks in their current state would be difficult to stack up very high.

Hikari Sandashi goes to the west... And cannot see the human from this tile...

Bob doesn't do anything, and no waitlisters managed to spring up at him.

An ominous presence can be felt coming from the south...

Tesipha Oakheart fades away and Maple Sylphseed appears at the tree.

Tutorial - Unseen foes: Sometimes you will be able to identify a potential problem without actually being on the same tile as it. Such things may be especially large, powerful, or just plain too noisy and clumsy to escape your notice. Their health will be hidden until discovered properly.

A new dryad comes to life, and meets Geos.
"I am cold. What is this?" Maple asks, looking at the snow. She is startled by the sight of the leafless branches of her tree.
"What has happened to my tree? Who has done this?!" She demands, as Geos explains.
The new dryad chooses a name for herself: Maple Sylphseed
"I remember that I was trying to do something important. I was cold, and was searching for something in my dream, yet then I awoke and now I can't remember what. Were you the one who awakened me?" Maple asks Geos.
...
Bob deepens the trench, then heads towards the human.
Maple travels to assist Bob.
"Greetings, sap kindred. Are you searching within the earth for warmth and life?"
Maple assists Bob with the digging.
"If I had known that the world were so cold and lifeless then I would not have awakened! What manner of evil has caused this dry, merciless cold??" Maple complains.
Maple asks Bob about the world.
...
"Perhaps I could lure the human away from us. And the human in turn could lure the unknown thing away from our tree." Maple suggests.

Human (E): 40/40
Triankrular (S): 33/33
Bird (S): 2/2
Cor Mite x12 (S): 2/2

Nute travels from NE to E and places the negligible amount of compost by the plant. Nute them unleashes some weed spores nearby, with the intent of using them to create compost in the least time-efficient manner possible.

Hikari moves to the south and attempts to perceive the threat. And succeeds, possibly due to the fact that the threat is now in tile S! She can see a floating grey thing that looks like a triangular pyramid. It is rotating with one of its points facing towards the ground and it is producing a metallic noise. A medium group of Cor Mites arrived alongside it. The Cor Mites look angry, but thats not abnormal.

Antherus returns to the tree and attempts to purchase a random spell, but this is contested by another Dryad and the invocation fails.

Bob digs at the trench a bit and is able to dig out a bit more dirt from beneath the snow before moving closer to the human in the east. The human has noticed your wolf-y presence, and seems somewhat alarmed.

Geos uses shift earth to try to find some larger stones, but has little luck in this regard. More digging would be necessary to reach a layer of solid rock below. Perhaps there might be an easier way to get rocks somehow...

Maple Sylphseed moves to the east to assist Bob with some digging, though her abilities are not quite as well suited to the job... It also occurs to her that the human might have been able to hear whatever it was that she said to Bob.

Triankrular (S): 33/33
Bird (S): 2/2
Cor Mite x6 (S): 2/2
Cor Mite x3 (S): 1/2
Cor Mite x1 (SS): 2/2

crazyabe forces the GM to spend some time looking up which dryad is his. Antherus then moves to tile S and casts Direct Insects on one of the Cor Mites... A single Cor Mite leaves to the south.

Hikari observes to see how the bird reacts to the Triankrular. The bird just... Sort of flies away to the west and pays no heed to the fact that the Triankrular just shot out three beams from its faces that are not pointed upwards with inflict 3 damage to one Cor Mite, 4 damage to another Cor Mite, and 3 damage to Hikari Sandashi. The Cor Mites seem to angrily scuttle around underneath the Triankrular.

Hikari then activates one of her Starlight Grenades which produces a flash of light. The Triankrular seems to rotate a bit, it remains unclear if it actually has a front or back side or whatever. The Cor Mites seem slightly more angry. It seems that the act of activating a Starlight Grenade does not require power.

Nute arrives at the scene and sprays Stink-Mouth at the Cor Mites, inflicting 1 damage to three of them. One of the Cor Mites goes over to Nute and bites him to deal 1 damage. The rest of them appear fixated on the Triankrular. Interestingly, it seems that the Cor Mites are woefully unequipped to handle aerial enemies which would have been nice to know earlier.

Bob (I guess having your Dryad's name in a quote technically counts?) attempts to talk to the human, who is willing to respond. The human explains that he is from the town of Hearth. The human claims to not know much about Cor Mites, or anything about Triankulars. He expresses some degree of curiosity about what kind of things that you have available to trade.

Geos uses shift earth to try to create a wall out of Geode Crystals, by poking them into the ground at an angle. Without some kind of kinetic force on either them or a potential victim is it unlikely that they will deal much damage however.

Maple Sylphseed heads southwest to talk to the Cor Mites. Either the Cor Mites can't talk or they are being very rude and ignoring her.

Trivia - Sometimes the GM won't accept a name for their creations unless it produces zero results on a google search.

Cor Mite x1 (SS): 1/2

The vegetation at tile S proves to be rather short. There is the edge of a mountain on this tile, but it doesn't fall under the category of plant life so Nute does not attempt to climb it. Nute attempts to use Compost on the Triankrular to attempt to degrade any food that it might be processing... Nute isn't really able to tell what is inside of it via this ability, so its effectiveness is uncertain aside from dealing 1 damage. Does it even eat?

Maple... Um... Shouts at the Cor-Mites and goes to kick them? Oh this can't end well. Maple kicks a Cor-Mite to deal 1 damage. Some of the Cor-Mites turn their attention to Maple, and bite her for a total of 3 damage, which is actually surprisingly low given the circumstances. The rest of them seem more interested in the Triankrular.

Antherus casts Direct Insects on another Cor-Mite. It heads to the south, crossing paths with the Cor-Mite which went south last turn; but has now came back to tile S.

The Triankrular spins around, then unleashes three more laser shots. This deals 3 damage to Nute, 3 damage to Antherus, and 3 damage to one of the Cor Mites.

Geos launches a Geode Bomb at half power to see if he can will it to detonate. It becomes apparant that it is the impact that causes a Geode Bomb to explode. Hmm. Geos continues work on the small stone wall.

Hikari returns to the tree and invokes Heal to restore 10 health to herself with the first uncontested invocation since the tree's hibernation became apparant. She considers the possibility of concentrating light from a bursting Starlight Grenade. It would probably be possible to use starlight from starlight grenades to create a stronger starlight grenade with enough of a power multiplier, but it wouldn't be any better than one made from starlight from the Star with the same multiplier. Maybe if you didn't have access to direct starlight?

Nute is disturbed by the actions of Geos and Hikari. To be fair, Hikari was healing herself to presumably have the strength to put up a fight. And Geos... Um...

Hikari wasn't thinking about using starlight grenade light for another starlight grenade. She meant to use a Focus Firelight attack with the light generated from the grenade, which would be concentrated and, perhaps, easier to concentrate that normal, more speed out light during the winter. Can I get confirmation on this before I attack?

Geos makes another Geode Bomb (x1.0) and buried it slightly under the ground near the first Geode Bomb, which he also buries. He then launches a Geode Bomb (x1.0) between the two to see if the exploding crystals have enough impact to trigger the buried bombs.

Winter 7, Year 1

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Human (SE): 40/40
Triankrular (S): 32/33
Bird (S): 2/2
Cor Mite x4 (S): 2/2
Cor Mite x2 (S): 1/2

Nute casts Weed Spores at the Triankrular. It seems that the spores are ineffective against this enemy for some reason. Nute also learns that the Weed Spore ability does not produce weeds instantaneously, while weeds are very good at growing they aren't THAT quick. Nute also learns that the weed spores are affected by Gravity, slipping off the Triankrular's smooth surface and falling upon the Cor-Mites which are not immune to them, dealing 2 damage to one Cor Mite and 1 damage to 2 Cor Mites! Nute then retreats to tile T, narrowly avoiding a Triankrular laser and invoking Heal to restore himself to full health. That could have gone much worse.

Speaking of worse, Antherus decides to cast Direct insects on one of the Cor Mites to make it attack the Triankrular... The Cor Mites were ALREADY attempting to attack the Triankrular, and were unable to hit the flying enemy. The only possible good that could have came from this action is that the targetted Cor Mite didn't decide to attack a dryad instead? On a related note, the Cor Mite sent south last turn has returned.

The Triankrular fires another three lasers, hitting one Cor Mite for 3 damage, narrowly missing Nute and hitting Antherus for 3 damage! Antherus is now out of commission. Perhaps that could have been avoided...

Hikari fails to post despite having got a GM response in the OOC thread well over 72 hours ago and just sort of stands around.

Geos creates a Geode Bomb and attempts to bury it. He does not have the energy to do so with shift eart and also create a second geode bomb, so it was only partially buried. There was not an unexploded geode bomb from last turn; it definitely detonated on impact. Geos then launches another Geode Bomb on top of the one on the ground. The second bomb detonates and triggers the first bomb! Success?

Maple runs away to the tree, disliking Cor Mites and the Cold like any other sensible dryad. She watches the battle. Its not going well. Its an absolute mess actually, with no co-ordination between the dryads.

Bob talks to the human, and the human somewhat nervously exclaims that they don't think they would get any use out of that and that they are just going to go fishing. The human moves south.

Nute attempts to lick the snow off of our tree. Revive(Tier 1) Antherus. Leave a scratched-out image of beetles standing on top of one another in a pyramid on the ground in front of the tree, Move south to S, then attempt to weave a crude shield using Weed Spores, both new and those prepared last turn.

Warning, action spends 3 of our 7 mana, which would leave 4.

Winter 8, Year 1

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Human (SE): 40/40
Fox (T): 15/15
Triankrular (S): 32/33
Cor Mite x3 (S): 2/2
Cor Mite x1 (S): 1/2

Nute invokes Revive Dryad to bring Antherus back, at the cost of 3 mana. Nute briefly considers the possibility of having a large amount of Cor Mites stack on top of eachother. If there was a swarm of Cor-Mites that was that massive, then the tree would be in grave peril.

Then, Nute does something that just plain baffles the GM. Nute then heads south and breathes out some more weed spores and attempts to weave a shield. Out of spores. Okay wow, where to even begin? The spores are basically tiny dots of unicellular plant matter so its virtually impossible to craft anything out of them. Even if the weeds had both the time and the non-winter to actually grow prior to this construction attempt they probably still wouldn't make for a good shield, at least not without a more solid material to combine them with. Nute has an immunity to his own plant poisons, so at least the crafting attempt didn't harm him. What DID harm him however, was his decision to make the attempt in the same location as the floaty triangular thing that is shooting lasers at everyone! Nute takes a solid laser shot for 4 damage!

BOB follows the human to tell it to tell their friends about the dryads. The human carves a circular hole in the ice with some kind of shiny device, then uses an object that is like a tree and yet not a tree and sort of holds it above the hole.

Maple asks Geos some questions. Geos probably doesn't know the answer to any of them. With the exception of "Can you shoot lasers". He absolutely knows the answer to that one. The answer is "No". Or possibly "Not Yet". Not that he actually said that or anything.

Geos prepares a trap on tile T, and undetonated Geode Bombs have been added to the Asset list. This has the potential to be a very good use of the Geode Bomb ability.

Hikari observes the Triankrular. She is a bit too far away to get a very good look at it, but not too far to see the attacks. It fired a laser about a second after Nute breathed his spores. It also fired on two Cor-Mites for 3 damage each. All three lasers were shot at approximately the same time, with different angles. Its rotations are horizantal, but never vertical.

There is a fox near the tree.

Winter 9, Year 1

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Human (SE): 40/40
Fox (N): 15/15
Triankrular (S): 32/33

Nute returns to the tree and breathes some Weed Spores on top of the Geode Bombs... This action does not produce enough kinetic force to cause the bombs to detonate.

Antherus just kind of lies in the snow. Surprisingly, Antherus is not attacked by the many threats in the area.

The Triankrular appears to have dealt with the Cor-Mite problem on tile S for you...

The fox travels north.

Bob watches the human. After a while, a fish comes up out of the hole and seems to sort of levitate beneath the non-tree object that the human is carrying. The human smacks the fish on the ground a couple of times to make it stop moving and puts it in a bag... Bob considers how much mana it would take to use inevitable decay on winter itself. The inevitable decay ability does not work on non-physical concepts and even if it did, mana does not work that way. While it is possible to increase the power multiplier of an ability via mana, the tree's Empower Spell invocation cannot increase the effective multiplier of a spell by more than double.

Geos creates some more Geode Bombs and puts them near the others. There are now four geode bombs with effective level 1.0 partially buried south of the tree. This seems like it might be an accident waiting to happen.

Maple attempts to discern the Triankrular's motives, however the only obvious tool at her disposal to do so is speculation. Are there any obvious patterns behind its previous actions?

Hikari is just sort of there, not doing anything.

Winter 10, Year 1

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Human (SE): 40/40
Triankrular (T): 31/33

Nute moves in such a way that he is probably not going to fall victim to a Geode Bomb trap and prepares to use Compost on the Triankrular in the event that it enters tile T... WHICH IT DID! The Triankrular shudders for a bit and takes 1 damage. It seems resistant, but not completely immune, to being composted.

Geos moves some clay and rocks between the Geode Bombs and the tree. The Geode bombs were already a fair distance from the tree and were separated by a dirt wall, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to play it safe. The Triankrular approaches from the south. Its ability to levitate means that it is unlikely to actually trigger the Geode Bomb trap.

Hikari travels north to catch up to the fox and attempts to befriend it. As a reminder, the GM will not always assume that you intend to use an ability unless you specifically state you are using it. Fortunately in this case the GM did make that assumption, and in a rare example of things actually going well, the Friend of Nature ability actually worked exactly as it was intended to! The fox has been added to the Asset list. Hikari hopes that the Triankrular doesn't get any closer to the tree, and in a decidedly non rare example of things not going right... Well... You know.

Bob, not including their character's name in their post despite repeated non-subtle reminders, observes the non-tree object which is obviously a fishing pole that is being used by the human. It is a long stick of wood with some shiny rings on it which appears to have a string... Oh forget it, I already clearly stated that it is obviously a fishing pole so I probably don't need to continue describing it.

Antherus returns to the tree and just sort of flops on the ground. His centaur-ant like shape makes it difficult to make a good dryad-shaped imprint in the snow, which is what I think he attempted to do.

Maple Sylphseed applies some snow to the dirt wall and observes the Triankrular. It has gotten dangerously close and its ability to levitate means that the wall will probably not be much of an obstacle for it, snow packed or otherwise.

Are we/the tree still supposed to be at 4 mana? Didn't we cast a spell or two between this turn and last turn?

And yeah, I know that that's a fishing rod, but, based on your description, it seemed like my character didn't. Now that you've mentioned string and stuff, I'm gonna assume that Bob knows how fishing poles work now.

Bob: Craft a fishing rod out of a nearby branch, some rope made of grass/leaves/reed/whatever, and a hook-shaped piece of flint. Bash a hole in the ice with a rock a considerable distance away from the human, then attach a worm or something to my fishing rod as bait and begin to fish.

If you're wondering why I'm not trying to protect our tree from the imminent danger it is in right now... Well, for one thing, since we have a shared mana pool that's running low, I'm not sure if my presence in the fight would actually give us more firepower. And as for the other, I'm two tiles away from you guys right now, so I'd need 2 turns or so to get over to the tree, by which point we will have likely either won the fight or lost our tree.

Winter 11, Year 1 <-- Not a GM error

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Human (SE): 40/40
Triankrular (T): 24/33

HIKARI (Seriously, include your characters name in your post) travels south to area T. She gets close to the Triankrular and casts Spreading Jolt, dealing 4 damage to it.

Nute invokes Heal on himself to heal himself up to full at the cost of 1 mana. He then casts Compost to deal 1 more damage to the Triankrular.

Geos attempts to take cover behind a fortification that perhaps vaguely resembles a wall and casts a Geode Bomb at the cluster of Geode Bombs previously prepared... all five geode bombs detonate; with disappointing results. As the bombs were detonated on the ground while the Triankrular was several feet above them, the vast majority of the crystal fragments did not meet their intended target. 2 damage is dealt to the Triankrular in total. Additionally, Hikari takes 2 damage and the fox takes 3 damage. For some reason, the GM made a little diagram demonstrating how this all works. The blue represents the Geode Bomb, the Orange represents a target, and the red lines represent the directions that the Geode Fragments were launched.

Maple Sylphseed invokes heal upon Geos to restore 5 health to him, and hides behind a wall.

The Triankrular... retaliates, firing three lasers at Hikari, Geos and Nute, inflicting 3 damage to Hikari, 3 damage to Nute, and piercing through the wall to strike Geos for a reduced 1 damage. The Triankrular respositions itself slightly.

Elsewhere, Bob attempts to craft a fishing rod. The following ingredients are not things that he collected:
-Something that can function as a rope (There is a lack of suitable plants available in winter)
-A hook shaped piece of flint (Didn't find this resource)
-Something that can be used as bait.
He was able to pick up a small stick though. Without the use of abilities, Bob is barely able to crack the ice, let alone cut a hole in it.

Spring 1, Year 2

Spoiler: Player Locations (click to show/hide)

Human (E): 40/40
Triankrular (T): 21/33

After exactly zero players were observant enough to express concern about winter having lasted 11 turns, Spring has returned and the tree has awoken from its hibernation. You have survived your first winter, yet you feel that unless you improve your tactics and team co-ordination, you will not survive your second.

Bob asks the Fisherman if he has any stories to tell. The fisherman says that he does, but it will have to wait for another time as he needs to bring his haul home before summer comes, and the human heads to the north.

Hikari Sandashi attempts to climb the Triankrular but finds that she is unable to, possibly because the Triankrular is levitating above the ground. This does not stop her from casting Spreading Jolt on it to inflict 3 damage. The foxes moves towards the tree. The Triankrular retaliates with yet another laser to inflict 3 damage on Hikari.

Geos finds himself unable to line up a Geode Bomb that would not have a high risk of striking Hikari.

Nute invokes heal on himself once again to restore the three health he lost. He then attempts to climb on Hikari in the hopes of reaching the top of the Triankrular, and is just barely able to grab onto one of its sides, despite the GM's desire to punish you for thinking you could possibly gain any kind of advantage by climbing on top of another dryad. The Triankrular tilts to one side a bit, but seems able to hold Nute's weight without losing altitude. Nute breathes some weed spores on the Triankrular hoping that it would be able to take root from the top... Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case, and about half of them fall off to the ground. This thing just plain seems to be impervious to the effects of Weed Spores.

Shockingly, the Triankrular does not strike Nute with a laser this turn. Unfortunately, it does take a shot at the tree to inflict 3 damage to it!

Maple Sylphseed just curls up and freaks out. Antherus is equally useful.

Nute manages to succeed at grabbing the Geode Bomb with his tail, then whips the Geode Bomb around to directly strike one of the Triankrular's sides to inflict a surprisingly high 8 damage to the Triankrular! In addition to the standard Geode Bomb explosion noise that is hear, there is also a sort of shattering sound and some kind of transparent material falls to the ground! The Geode bomb has also inflicted 1 damage upon Nute as at least one shard struck his tail. Nute then attempts to breath weed spores into the expored part of the Triankrular... It still appears to be immune to its effects however and more weed spores fall to the ground.

Nute remained attached to one of the non-damaged sides, and is unable to evade a Triankrular laser and takes 3 damage.

Bob charges towards the tree and uses Wild Shape to attempt to take the form of a T-Rex. He is able to take that shape, however his size seems to be severely limited by his own power multiplier, being not much larger than he was before. He attempts to charge the Triankrular, but finds that it is levitating a bit too high for him to reach. The T-Rex form also turns out to be rather bad for the purpose of jumping at things.

Maple Invokes Heal on Hikari at the cost of 1 mana. She tells the Triankrular to go away, which it doesn't do.

Hikari Sandashi attacks the Triankrular with Spreading Jolt, inflicting 4 damage to it. Unfortunately, this has the effect of electrocuting the Triankrular; which Nute is still attached to and Nute takes fatal 3 damage! On a lighter note, this attack has caused the Triankrular to fall to the ground taking an additional 2 damage!

Bob immediately starts to maul the Triankrular, but only inflicts 1 damage. It turns out that the tiny arms of a T-Rex are rather terrible for mauling things.

The Fox attacks the Triankrular to deal 2 damage.

Antherus fades away, and Scoutlocke appears at the Tree!

Freebies: The GM doesn't usually give away free stuff to the players. The new ability as seen in the upgrade section appears to be an exeption. However, making the most of this one would require a level of co-operation that has been especially rare among you dryads.

Om nom nom nom.

Once the Triankular is defeated, inspect its innards (return to dryad-form first). How does it fire its lasers? How did it fly? How does it generate power?

If the Triankular is a machine, purchase the following unison spell:

Merge With Machine (Electricity, Transform): Combines/melds the forms of a natural creature (like, say, a dryad) and a machine.

How much mana does the tree (re)generate per turn?

I would like to deny this purchase, considering that we cannot confirm if the Triankrular is machine. It could be some metal elemental or other, extra dimensional being.

But, anyway, Hikari will gasp at the accidental lethal friendly fire, then just punch the triankrular.

Bob, who needs to remember to include his character's name in his posts, just sort of sits around and waits for the Triankrular to be defeated. Regardless of how it works, it is not possible to purchase a Unison ability alone. Both you and another Dryad must simultaneously make the purchase.

Hikari just sort of punches the now grounded Triankrular to deal 1 damage.

Geos, who also needs to remember to include his character's name, launches a Geode Bomb at the exposed part of the Triankrular despite Bob's protest, inflict 6 damage to the Triankrular. And also 1 damage to Hikari, no idea why she decided to walk up to it and punch it. As predicted by Bob, this action destroys all of the delicate innards, causing the Triankrular to crackle and explode. The explosion was fortunately not a very big one which did no damage to anything or anyone you really care about. The Triankrular Wreck has been added to your assets.

Bob inspects the Triankrular Wreck. It has glass components and metal components, but he is unable to determine anything about how it works. He does learn that the thing produces smoke upon destruction, and on closer inspection it appears to be leaking a black colored fluid...

Nute posts to ded. I can only presume that is to prevent me from yelling at him for not posting when he is, in fact, dead.

Maple invokes Revive Dryad on Nute. As long as the tree stands tall, Nute will probably be fine for as long as he has the will to continue existing.

Water starts to fill up the little moat around the tree, which on closer inspection is not as deep as it originally was. There is also something growing just south of the tree. You are able to identify them as Spore Weeds. These plants have definitely emerged from the weed spores that were unleashed during the battle.

Scoutlocke fades away and Grumm-da appears at the tree.

Geos opposes the use of 6 mana because the Triankrular Wreck isn't going anywhere, and uses 1 mana to Heal Maple, who could die from getting on the wrong end of a Cor-mite.

Also propose a Union Spell to Nute: Fertile Ground: turns the soil in a large, deep area around the true into incredibly fertile soil, which will help nourish the tree.

Use Shift Earth to dig the trench deeper,  but don't forget to leave a way for me and the others to get out.

Elf Zombie (T): 50/50
Animated Rat Husk (T): 5/5
Skeletal Goat (S): 40/40

A blood moon hangs in the night sky! This causes bad things to happen. One bad thing is that the tree did not grow on this turn. Another bad thing is that some of the things that died since the last blood moon have arisen as undead!

Bob attempts to learn the spell "Repair" but the invokation is fizzled by a dispute from another Dryad. Bob then attempts to build the wall higher... But the GM does not understand how he intends to do that. Does he intend to just sort of pack some dirt onto the wall with his hands? Or use one of his abilities? The GM decides not to assume that he meant to use the Growth ability.

Hikari attempts to scoop up the black fluid, but lacks a tool or ability that would make it easy to move liquids. At the very least however, it does not appear to be poisonous to the touch.

Geos invokes heal to restore Maple Sylphseed's health. He digs the trench a bit deeper using Shift Earth, and the water around the tree is drained into the ground!

Nute heads south and casts Compost on the Spore Weeds. Waiting for the spores to actually grow into weeds has greatly increased the amount of compost that they provided!

Maple enters the trench and just sort of scratches at the dirt a bit which doesn't accomplish all that much. None of her abilities provide her with an obvious way to improve digging ability.

Grumm-Da fades away... But another dryad does not appear!

General tip: Always include as much detail as possible in your action post. A one line action post will not be as effective as well as a well thought out plan.

Will the tree not grow for the duration of the Blood Moon, or will it just not grow this turn?

Bob chomps on the undead rat (he's still a T-Rex, remember?).

I have a plan for how to deal with all of these undead (and gain something out of their presence), but I'll need a little bit over 22 mana to do it.
Title: Re: Dryad Rage: IC Thread

Nute spits weed spores at the compost around the skeletal goat's legs then sprints around it in circles, hoping to distract it while the weeds grow to restrain it and it tangles itself and trips to be further restrained...
Nute also spends a moment being thankful that it is not surrounded by a full score of undead cor-mite husks.

Eeeergh... gunna have to "for science!!" the power of descriptions...

The gecko-like dryad had busied itself with deconstituting the dangerous weeds into healthy soil. It felt a strange shift in ambience, a murmor of sunset amidst what by all convention ought ot have been a simple, common night. A strange murmuring drifted through the undergrowth. With a bizarre rumble the mound of newly-enriched land rose and cracked. A massive pair of horns, each similar in size to the creature, breached the surface and entered the field, followed by a vacant skull, bereft of intent. As the assemblage of bones accumulated above the ground and assembled into a hint of a creature long passed, the dryad gazed upon it fretfully and pondered. It was to near to their heart, which was already beset by such entities. The others would be ill-prepared to control the two already amidst the tree, a third would be too much, it must be delayed!
Stumbling upon a plan to constrict the unnaturally viable beast, the lizard-thing charged! Summoning forth its magical routes, seeds trembled into its throat and were promptly cast upon the newly-fertile surface around the intruder. The wet, feeding soil embraced the magical seeds which quickly sought to claim all that they could find. The dryads leaps and climbed and dashed around the skeltal figure's legs, spitting seeds all about as a carpet of tenacious growth spread around them.In time the new growth began to catch. Little force at first, but it stuck, and gathered, and allowed itself to be pulled with the legs as it knotted about. Its legs steadily entangling, the hollow trace of a once animal gathered about it a mess of green shoots, binding its legs and weighing it down as they sought out one another and formed a gentle carpet, constricting around legs, grasping at ribs, spreading through vqacant sockets...
Such a monster was unlikely to remain bound by such restraints forever, but perhaps this would last long enough for the truth of such horrors to be revealed, and to end any hostilities that might exist. The yough dryad could only hope that such a fate would be borne...

Elf Zombie (T): 45/50
Animated Rat Husk (T): 1/5
Skeletal Goat (SS): 40/40

The Blood Moon recedes... But the undead remain!

Bob decides to bite the Rat Husk, inflicting 3 damage to it. Dryads do not really need to eat in the traditional sense, but the GM isn't inclined to describe in detail just how this thing tastes. The description would include the words Dump, Week, and Cockroaches. Bob fails to keep the thing in his mouth and the Rat retaliates to deal 1 damage.

The Fox strikes the rat with its paw to deal 1 damage. It refuses to bite it.

Nute breathes weed spores around the Skeletal Goat and then starts to run in circles around it. He quickly learns that the weed spores simply do not work that way, a lesson he would have learned if he paid a bit more attention to them in the past. While the weeds certainly do grow at what could fairly be described as a fast pace, their growth speed is not instantaneous. It is a process that takes place over several turns. Worse yet is the fact that the poisonous spores do not have an obvious manner of harming this undead creature made of bones and pretty much nothing else. The goat just sort of... Wanders a bit to the south, climbing up the mountainous terrain.

Maple Sylphseed just sort of... Throws some of the small rocks at the Elf Zombie to inflict 1 damage to it.

Geos also sort of throws a rock at it. By which I mean a Geode Bomb which detonates to deal 4 damage to the Elf Zombie. The Elf Zombie makes a grotesque gurgling sound and begins to move surprisingly fast for a Zombie, but also surprisingly slow for an elf. Crawling on all fours it charges in Geos's general direction, passes him, and keeps moving?

Hikari Sandashi decides to strike only if they come to the tree. She actually might be onto something. Whoever heard of a zombie that eats trees anyway? Hikari does not produce a Spreading Jolt this turn.

WaterDancer appears at the tree!

Fun Fact: Maple Sylphseed never used one of her abilities even a single time. No idea why. None.

Elf Zombie (T): 43/50
Bird Ghoul (E): 2/2

Bob decides to continue chomping on the nasty rat husk to inflict 2 damage. His wild shape is forcibly cancelled by all of the nasty, but at least the rat is dealt with now.

Nute travels to the northeast and breathes some weed spores. There is a ghoulified bird here!

WaterDancer uses Rapids, to attack the elf zombie with water to deal 2 damage.

Geos returns to his little hole and uses shift earth. He didn't get to the rocks this turn because he had to pull out the dirt from the previous collapse. This seems like it might not be the best place to get rocks from.

Unable to tame the now un-undead rat, Hikari travels to the south. There is no skeletal goat to be found here however.

Maple Sylphseed does not have an ability that would modify the ability of someone else. The closest thing would be Charm, which is specifically based on the caster's appearance.

It seems unlikely that it would matter anyway. The Elf Zombie clearly lacks the rational ability to be susceptible to such tricks. It twists its body in an unnatural manner, turning to look at the tree. It grabs the sides of its head with both of its hands, quivers, and makes a loud gurgling noise...

A few poisonous spores start to float about at tile T.

Clarification: To clarify, an if statement is valid in Hikari's action. It is not allowed to say "Attempt to do X if it would succeed, otherwise do Y" but it is allowed to say "Attempt to do X and do Y if it does not succeed". The idea is that you cannot know if an action would succeed or not if you don't try and lack knowledge of the circumstances.

Geos opposes Bob's waste of almost all our mana for undisclosed plans. And he still opposes Bob's use of mana if he discloses the plans, purely on principle. The principle of "You don't get to unanimously decide to waste a majority of our mana on selfish plans, especially not when there are zombies that may have possibly noticed and aggroed on the tree." He watches the elf zombie and fires an Empowered Geode Bomb at it if it attacks the tree, or any other zombie attacking the tree. If no zombies attack the tree, he goes SE and uses Terraforming to gather up stone, especially ones shiny or different from the kind by the tree, to bring back to the tree.

My plan will deal with the zombies, and it will do so much faster than just beating on them will. It took us a ton of turns and mana to deal with the Triankular, which had only 33 health; what makes you think that we can quickly dispose of the Elf Zombie, which (currently) has 43 health and might call in backup later?

Unfortunately, I can't disclose my plan until after I pick up my secret skillset.

"Unlock Secret Skillset: 8 mana - Reveals your secret skillset and enables the purchasing of spells for it. Mutually exclusive with certain future upgrade choices, and cannot be purchased if it is no longer a secret."

Plus, you Geode-Bombed my Triankular corpse. You owe me one for that.
