Curing Fever From Animals
« on: July 18, 2012, 01:57:09 pm »

So,
my fortress came under attack from a forgotten beast, (which by knocking down the door, released 3 cave beasties, simultaneous with 2 or 3 goblins ambushing us from above. :-) )
Now they all said I was made when I said "For every dwarf, a room, with bed, armour stand, weapon stand, cabinet, and chest; and For every dwarf, a coffin waiting in the hall of failures for him." but by Armok we were looking to need them.

To my great distress, the fell beasty, let forth its terrible dust, in the very hall of failures, where the tombs were,
and I thought it was all over, as thoses carring the dead would them selves die, bringing more down.
---
Turned out the powder wasn't as bad as I thought,
when the dust had settled, after the cave beast, goblins, riots, and a minotaur, who arrived late to the party,
i was left with 20 dwarves, of my 160.
half of whom were children, they said they couldn't work, I said "You complain your father is left to rot, take him to his place in the hall of failures."

There was no dust left in the hall,
the was some in the well, but it appear to be having no effect.
Some of it did spread to my foes, even.
The dust appears to have only inflected the fever symptom.
Once I fired my cheif medic ("I did not allow you to skip out on the clean up so you could waste your time becoming mayor, manager, bookkeep and broker, idiot"),
and put a untrained, but happy fool in his place,
the sick in my hospital were all cured of this fevor,
there are a couple of people who never made it to hosiptal, running around sick,
but the big concern (OOC: purly from the flashing red Xs)
is that all the birdlife are fevered,
how do I heal them?
(Does the animal caretaker profession do anything? how do i make it work?)

I was expecting a poem when I saw the second half of your post. I was sadly disappointed. :'(

You can't heal wildlife. They'll eventually move off the map and be replaced by fresh creatures, though.

Then it happened. Then I cringed. Then I picked it up and beat him to death with it, and then his buddies, too.
You beat a man to death with his dick?

Animal Caretaker does not do anything. Injured tame animals are never treated, even if it says "diagnosis required" in their health screen. They will often heal on their own after a while.

They are trained animals (I don't now how I ended up with so many, I think their owners must be in the hall of failures.)

This answers the question.

I guess we'll have to eat them.

If they are trained can you not get a sacrificial dwarf to take them one by one to a pasture... say one underneath a bridge...
