Dwarf Fortress Talk #20: Feedback
« on: February 13, 2013, 06:42:15 am »

The twentieth one has been posted.

Any comments about the format, content, quality, etc. of the call are welcome.

mallocks might not be available for a transcript this time around.  We'll have to figure that out as time goes on.

I am starting to think Captain Tastic should start to balance the acoustic interludes so they arn't 5 times louder then everything else.

It isn't a big deal, but it does seem to cut through the air like a hot knife through melting butter.

Edit: maybe I am imagining things >_<

---

Ok I will say that Captain certainly stumbled upon an idea...

A setting that is basically: Generate Time between games.

It actually does produce a certain solution without outright restricting historical figures for sanity's sake.

---

This is probably the talk where you go the most off topic for the longest period of time. Even when scamps first came up. Though that was somewhat on topic.

Hey, 20! That's quite a milestone. Good thing I decided to refresh the devlog one last time before heading out; now I can throw it on my ipod and listen to it at work.

If it would help out in mallocks' absence, I might try my hand at transcribing it sometime this afternoon, and throw the text of it up somewhere.

I edited it this time, so I'm responsible for the volume levels on the music.  I made a note to check that everything is even there next time.

Yeah, mallocks won't be doing a transcript this time for sure, so if you'd like to toss one up that would help a lot.

Hmm yeah the music level's fine.

I was going to try my hand at transcribing but I do not type fast enough to do this in roughly the same amount of time as I can listen to it - and the beginning is daunting since various people are talking at the same time and over each other, everyone is sitting at each other's left and right in a way that does not seem possible for three people to do, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

There sure are a lot of drunks in the game.

Hanging on every word for a rough estimate of release date for the next version, hehe, even though I know that's not possible to really estimate. Been waiting patiently but I'm beginning to feel like a dwarf with no drink :D

Well remember this is the medieval period. So everyone must drink alcohol.

So anyone with a predisposition to becoming a drunk, is likely to become a drunk... and because alcohol is even in the drinking water it means that "fetal alcohol syndrom" would likely come in large numbers.

--

As for the sound balance I imagined it. Though the first one does seem louder then the rest, but that is the closest to where I could have 'legitimately' have got that from. I likely had not adjusted my ears to noise yet and it just sounded louder and then the voices were quiet because I quickly adjusted.

My first pass at transcription is complete.

post size exceeded (huzzah, I've typed 59k worth of text.  Hey, that's like typing out the C64/Apple ][+ ROM Memory map, thrice!)

Here's a link, I'll add an update post now.

If someone would care to proof it, and assign names ( I don't know who is who for certain ) then it can be used, posted, whatever.  Go forth, transcription, be free!   :D

It feels like a race to see who can finish their transcript first.

I'm looking forward to listening to this.  I'm intrigued as to what Threetoe is really doing...

I have to agree with ThreeToe, this was another excellent episode. Great job, everybody!

Somehow I feel like I am being challenged to create a episode rating system.

Though it is probably because I somehow hear, even though that isn't what Trif is saying, someone saying that it is relatively excellent.

Yeah. If I'd known it was gonna be like that, I might have tried for it as well. Unfortunately I figured since someone else already volunteered, it would do no more good. I'll know better next time. (I'm not being cynical, just ironic.)

I thought the moving sound thread was called that because someone used *moving sound* as a sound effect in a comic?
