It's basically like living a second virtual life in a little cartoon setting, where time passes in realtime. This is one of the big things keeping me from playing it (the commitment to baby it nearly every day) but it can be a draw for others who like to dabble in it.
I hadn't thought of this before but with it being realtime I'd have a problem because I work nights.

things like the K.K. meeting place only built up gradually over the course of the first couple weeks.

Read this as KKK meeting place.

You can always just change your system clock to a more reasonable time for the townsfolk.

I bought this, then my 3DS died and I realized I left my charger at a friend's house. Tomorrow I shall Animal Cross.

I bought this and I'm going to play it right now. I don't pity anyone who doesn't have it.

On day 1, I got the fish maniac trophy.

For catching 50% of all fish.

This is not madness, this is animal crossing.

URGE...TO BUY...3DS...RISING...

I haven't bought a handheld since the very first DS, and I still have plain-old and somewhat bulky blue one that I sometimes play. Granted, the hinges are broken and its scuffed to hell, but it still works.

I arrived in town about 10:00, so there's not been much to do. Shall see what the morning brings.

I like how you're unable to ask "Why am I the mayor?"

Are you the mayor? Didn't know that.

It explains that weird japanese trailer which shows your character sneaking up behind Tortimer with a shovel, though.

Do you start out as the mayor? I thought you had to work for that.

You get off the train and everyone is lile "OUR NEW MAYOR HAS ARRIVED" and you're like "Wait what?" and then they go "Of course you're the mayor who else could it be" And then you get a letter from the mysterious real mayor the next time you start the game

So basically your  character was hoping to enjoy a Walden style camping trip and discovered a town of anthropomorphic animals which proclaimed you their 'mayor' (clearly some kind of prophet character in their religion). Sounds even better!

What happens if you start new characters in your town? Are they the mayor too? It'd be strange to have four mayors.

This will be one of the games where I prefer the digital copy.
Is nice to have it always on the 3DS without the hassle of switching cartridges. So lazy, I know.
