Merge seperate saved worlds as parallel planes
« on: May 19, 2016, 01:39:38 pm »

Apparently alternate planes of existence are planned for the game, and that got me thinking.  What if you could export your entire world, put the files in the saved game folder, and then opened up a portal allowing people to migrate between worlds?

This could allow you to do things like save an adventurer from one world to the next, and even allow a sort of pseudo-multiplayer where players could upload their worlds and have other players try to conquer their fortresses.  The time discrepancy can be easily explained by the standard "time is different there" explanation.

There could be problems with RAWs.

The implications of this would be massive, especially when the Military Arc is finished...

Well, yes, I expect you wouldn't be able to merge different mods together, as fun as that would be.  Still, being able to combine different worlds with the same raws would have a lot of use.

this could be a huuuuuugeeeeee fps killer.

but I like the Idea, and I think that raws should not be merged at all, instead it should be casted in someway, So in this universe/plane your are a human but when you cross the portal you are horse-man or a pidgeon

Fortress mode level im not sure how that'd work.

Armies and historical figures coming through the 'portal' (as to say we represented the link between planes like stargate to use a pop cult point of reference) would have to simultaneously exist in two planes or generate using information collaborated from the time dilation to justify.

To make co-exist raws, some kind of variable state catalyst of coding would have to exist. Perhaps in by accessing or opening a portal, you have to dedicate some loadup time to creating this catalyst state, in which then the entities coming through must respect the laws of your world but have potentially differentiated raws as a custom entity/caste of entity. GDS for instance coming into our world from another save would need to be acknowledged by the game.

Say you specifically built a hostile realm full of literal demonic creatures (as to say you couldn't set up planes as non-save accessible small worlds), if the armies of hell enter our world as historical beings, they are accounted for even with their own entity flag from their world where they are the generated as the sole contributor.

I have dedicated this transcript to the possibilities of intense savescumming abuse.

Quote

Urist Martey Mc'Flye: "We are doomed, may armok estun us"

Urist Dolok Bruwne: "No there is a deg"

Urist Dolok Bruwne: "We must go lakish to the geth in order to save this zokun of the zalud! warn them of the approaching okbod

Urist Martey Mc'Flye: "You ām crazed il's that's impossible!"

Urist Dolok Bruwne: "No the stākud is ready for use on this track below our feet, we must okil it uthar to determine if its ekast"

Urist Martey Mc'Flye: "You built a ashok stākud, out of a deler uranium kadōl embedded minecart?"

Urist Dolok Bruwne: "It is my zan thunen ducim"

*Distant rumblings and screaming echo through the fortress*

Urist Dolok Bruwne: "there is no ashok!"

Urist Dolok Bruwne: "if my calculations are correct when this åm hits eighty eight miles per nal we're going to see some serious shit"

Nervously the doc picks up a lingering male cat and throws it into the cart before throwing the switch sending the cat on its way, the minecart shudders as it picks up velocity and then dissapear the two dwarves rejoice

Urist Martey Mc'Flye: "What now?

Urist Dolok Bruwne: "we go and reclaim the stākud for our sanreb use, come with me, we may need to bardum our deg to it"

While in this world Dolok and Martey across the infinite parallel planes of dimension both inevitably live or die from the event, a critical flaw in Dolok's calculations sets them off at a parallel tangent to which they travel the multiverse indefinitely. Meanwhile on another plane the scene changes; it is one of a tranquil sleepy fortress dug deep into the mountainside, people are singing and dancing and obviously drinking contently. Indeed it has drawn out the royalty into the high ceiling courtyard where a great tragedy is about to occur, basking under the statue, the unknowingly pregnant queen is reminiscing about her abrupt arranged marriage to the king.

With no prior warning or chance to assess the situation a minecart materialises into the fray at great speed, tumbing to and fro disloged off the tracks, crashing into the bystanders before toppling the statue to collapse upon her, killing her instantly beneath the deep rubble of granite, outraged and distraught there is a categorical investigation into the source of this misfortune but no credible evidence is found though scores of people are trialled for witchcraft and dark arts as per the local religious sects taking up responsibility when rationality ends.

So ends the premature life or from what perspective, grand and immortalised life of the Urist Stelruk Goldfingers, the future rightful king of the dwarves and military leader that broke the siege of Marchbanded and numerous other sites across the kingdom with both his unsurpassed personal military skill, sharp wits and un-matched leadership. And between both worlds the dwarves lie in turmoil and ruin.

Unaware of the implications of his future and current doings, entranced the sprightly keen minded Dolok scavenges the parts of the
collapsed minecart whilst attention is cast upon the queen shortly after its arrival and reconstructs it after months in isolation and being soon branded a outcast on the basis of his thinning beard hair and lack of dedication to the somewhat cruelly enforced mourning over the queens loss from the now mentally unstable king and his nervous subjects. After a great amount of time studying his reconstructed creation he is able to assume that given the minor magical energies surrounding it, and its sudden appearance it is magical yet dwarven in nature.

Such arrogance for determine that you could cheat fate justly delivered unto thee. Out of sight the cat that had disembarked from the minecart prowls and contorts its form to that of a tall figure wearing a long cloak of undistinguishable jet black fiber, moving swiftly towards the control room to which the levers controls are kept and whispers a forbidden arcanic tome.

Noiselessly turning around and moving out the room the candle light of a nearby lantern penetrates the alluring garment and a distinct massless body of a skeletal humanoid amphibian's shadow is cast upon the wall.

I like the idea of the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" when they use the "Infinite Improbability Drive" principle to travel in space, or like "using information collaborated", anyway it could be any ideas/physics/something the point, at the beginning. for ex. The Forgotten Beast/Titans etc, could be any other procedural-generated-creature.

It doesn't had to be 100% real or had 100% sense, its a game and it has elves :P

We have the other saves, there is other information/raws, after the time dilatation or whatever the shared endpoints are, they would be just contants, like tics, and DF mostly being a single-core game (maybe except for the graphic part, as far I know), the other reality can be proccesed in the other cores, and managed in another one. Super easy to say but a hell to develop, maybe.
