Bio: Born into a family with a long history of military service (with several of his ancestry becoming famous archers), Bryant had little choice in his career. But this time, something was wrong. Bryant’s skill in archery was nowhere near the level of his parents, his grandparents, or even his siblings. Even after years of training from an early age, Bryant still had difficulty fully drawing back his bowstring, let alone shooting several arrows at any target. His trainer eventually grew exasperated to the point where he refused to teach him.

Bryant couldn’t bear the thought of going back to his family with the news. Even if his archery skills were unfit for the military, they could still at least be used to feed himself. And so Bryant became a poacher, hunting and trapping wherever he could find creatures that could be eaten, while using false trails, camouflage, and careful movement to escape any who would try to capture him. He even managed to evade the grasp of the royal gamekeeper, Malkath, for a time. When the poacher was finally caught, Malkath was impressed by Bryant’s knowledge of the terrain and the tricks he used to avoid being caught, and saw potential in him. Rather than imprisoning or executing him like Bryant feared, the old man offered to take him in and train as his apprentice.

In the years since then, Bryant took the place of the old gamekeeper when he finally retired, and has been working for Eydis ever since. The deaths of the old king and queen, while tragic, did come with their own silver lining - the old rulers had ruled with an iron fist, and while they were kind enough to forgive him for his crimes, Bryant knew they would not publicly acknowledge his past or recognize him as the royal gamekeeper. And, so, both to thank them for their kindness and to do what he knew Malkath would’ve wanted him to do, and pledged himself to the service and protection of Eydis.

Bio:
Khosatz was born some time ago to the Anensi family in a small village on the western coast of Ikhada. The people there thrived on trade with the nearby port city, where ships from all over the mainland docked to buy and sell. His parents were respectable people; his mother once made her fortune with a blade, and his father worked as an entertainer - the best dancer in town, anyone would tell you. Khosatz grew up with a great interest in both pursuits, and it soon proved evident he had a knack for them, too.

At first he followed the same path as his father. He became an entertainer himself, getting jobs in inns and taverns to please and amaze the guests. Resting sailors at the port city were especially fond of him, and he they, because they paid sweetly and spoke sweeter. Khosatz soon began to broaden his horizons and danced in shows all across Ikhada, making great use of his swordplay as he went, for no road is truly safe in this world. But as time stretched on, he began to realize his two passions were not as disparate as they seemed. His abilities in each could be combined into a singular practice, one with a unique style that was all his own.

He zealously set to work making this idea a reality, and before long Khosatz was well known all over again for his dancing ability, now with the added danger and allure of working a blade into his routines. He broadened his horizons, traveling to the mainland to practice his art there as well. And, after an chance encounter with a desperate man in need of a mercenary, it seemed it was possible for him to live the life his mother once did at the same time, of selling his swordmanship to the highest bidder. Just like he melded a sword into his dance routine, he melded mercenary work into his life as a dancer.

Time passed and the name Khosatz was spoken in many a town and city along the eastern reaches of Lastreodal and Cestulon. But one day a particularly creative audience member gave him a new one - "the Viper of Ikhada". It spoke of his style in both dance and swordplay; swift, darting movements like that of a viper striking its prey, lunging in to attack and retreating out of reach. The nickname was emblematic of his fame, and he began using it over his given name when taking contracts and performing shows.

However, his time as the Viper was to be cut woefully short. A contract gone wrong left him with a wound in his shoulder that cut into the bone and left his sword arm unfeeling and numb. Though healers saw to restoring his flesh, they could not restore use of his arm, no matter who he looked to and what methods they used. His swordplay and dancing both relied on that hand to ply a blade, and if he could not... he was the Viper no more.

Khosatz disappeared from the common eye in an instant, taking his reputation with him. His useless arm served only to remind him of what he'd lost, and in a fit of anger he paid a handsome price to have it safely removed. He retired to a remote village in Lastreodal along the River Vein, biding his time, and watching as the Viper transformed from a staple of popular culture to a distant memory, whose name was only spoken of to ask what had happened to it.

A few years passed; Khosatz has taken to his old flame of dancing once more, putting on infrequent shows at a local inn, his style a shadow of its former self. It is unrecognizable to what it had once been at the height of the Viper's career, and so is he. However, despite his efforts to hide himself, a faint trail to him still existed if one knew where to look. There is perhaps one man in Lastreodal with the connections and ability to follow it to the former Viper, and his name was Fersand . . .

Bio: Never a particularly strong or influential house to begin with, House Langford was in a difficult position financially; years of mining accidents and bandit attacks had  dried up the river of ore that once flowed out of their mines, and the previous head’s...questionable investments and spending sprees had left their coffers bare.

At first turning towards their closest allies for aid, the then young head was surprised at how little most of them seemed to care; their offers to the weak and vulnerable house almost amounting to vassalage - or worse. Fearing that he would become the last head of the Langford family, the head found salvation from a...scandalous source.

A scion of the Frostenden merchant house had arrived, and having heard of the ‘great’ house’s financial woes, the scion was here to make a deal...of sorts. The Frostendens had several very eligible maidens in wait you see, and while he could marry them off to the other merchant houses to increase his already considerable wealth, what he really wanted was something a little more substantial than wealth alone.

Finding the idea of marrying his house to money to be more palatable than letting his line end here, the head agreed to marry his sons to the scion’s daughters and thus tie their two houses together. This was an upset to the Langford's old ‘allies’, who grew to see the restored house as little more than upstart commoners, led by a fool who chose to serve the lessers he had brought into the fold. This was 30 years ago.


Daniella Noreen Langford-Frostenden is the third daughter of Antwell, a scion of the noble house of Langford-Frostenden, and in those thirty years the family has prospered. Born during a time of relative prosperity and strength, Daniella’s family had...low aspirations for her accomplishments, simply expecting her to grow up to become a proper and well educated lady to attract a nice noble husband that can increase their standing among noble circles. Dan, unfortunately, has other ideas now.

Her parents having decided to focus their attention on her brothers and sisters, Dan was left...relatively free of supervision. This allowed her to embark on ill advised childhood adventures and spend hours listening to tales of honorable heroes and glorious combat from her tutors and servants, while her siblings were expected to seriously study the etiquette and business skills they’d need when they inherited their shares of the fortune.

She would have grown to be nothing more than a spoiled brat if nothing had changed, but after her tutors uncovered her talent for the magical arts, her parents were suddenly very interested in being involved in their other daughter’s life. They moved to ‘convince’ her to pursue academia, seeing her as a potential way in to the magical societies their house was lacking. Dan, for her part, found her new lessons to be difficult to wrap her head around, and while the promise of power had its allure she only started to throw herself into her work once she cast her first spell and felt the rush of wielding magical power first hand.

Having a preference for the same ‘ancient’ magic her tutor preferred, Dan resolved to make a name for herself through her magic, eventually moving to Zwölf Academy to finish her training. Dan proved to be a bit of a problem child, having a sense of...arrogance and hunger for power that did not endear her much to the other students, who often saw her as a brash and impatient know it at all at best, and an upstart lesser trying to upstage her betters at worst.

She tended to be alone a lot at lunch...and dinner, but she didn’t let that stop her from trying her best, ending up graduating as a close second in her class, a fact that she would take more pride in if it didn’t hurt a little to mention it still.

Her family helping her find work as another wizard’s ‘research assistant’, Dan quickly came to resent her position, finding the job to consist mostly of arguing against self righteous old fogeys, and doing whatever minor task or errand they asked her to...which was not what she saw herself doing for the next couple of decades. And that she hasn't really done much with all of the intelligence and strength she claims to have.

Turning to Nestor, her mentor and old magic tutor for advice, the embittered old man advised her to try and live a little while she could, citing his own wealth of regrets and failed relationships as something he doesn’t want her to inherit. Dan took her mentor’s advice to heart, and started to broaden her horizons, starting by fighting to convince her parents to let her take a more active role in the family’s business, arguing that it’d allow her to ‘focus on her own research, along with currying favours with the local nobility’.

It was a hard sell, and even now she could tell that her family was keeping a close watch on her activities, but she was free enough to scour the kingdom for ways to earn her family the prestige and honor they were denied.

Unfortunately her first idea of becoming a retainer to the royal siblings, after hearing a rumor that they were looking for new talent, almost went down the drain when she arrived to an empty palace, and failed to find them when she took to the streets to try and catch up. It was a stroke of luck that she managed to find Fersand, the spymaster before she could give up. Although the chances of him just happening to be resting at the same inn was…low to say the least.

Bio: Born into wealth and power as a member of the Cestulon nobility, Jennet du Cloyes has always been spoiled and proud beyond measure. Her father is a skilled diplomat, a man with a silver tongue. Her mother has a shrewd mind and a unspoken past, with more strings to pull on than fingers and toes. Their hereditary lands lie in western Cestulon, at the meeting of the River Vein with the sea, a place with a long history of conflict with Lastreodal turned prosperous with Maximilian Stickler's recent policies.

Talented as her parents are, they were considerably less skilled at raising children. As rumors go, the son and heir of the du Cloyes is an arrogant womanizer, clever in his own way in terms of administration and governance, but thoroughly insufferable. Almost a blessing that lately he has not been seen in public, no doubt preoccupied by other frivolous pursuits. And the daughter...

Jennet might be a rotten apple too. Lazy. Uncompassionate. Condescending towards the peasantry and those she considers her lessers. But what she has is combat training fitting of nobility, a well-crafted suit of heavy armor, and a fresh grudge against the Cult. And despite all appearances to the contrary, she is not wholly comprised of faults. Now that she has disobeyed her parents' wishes for the very first time and set out on her own, only her mother's old connections with a certain Fersand are likely to save her from her own hubris.

Applications have once more closed, and once again, it was really difficult to pick because everyone had good applications again. I don't really deserve this kind of effort, but it's very appreciated.

Regardless, the two contenders that I've picked are Caellath (playing Nuallán Beaumont, the Noblest of Archers), and Haspen (Playing Evelin Feuermahne, Soldier-to-Be). I shall be rolling their stats and continuing the story shortly after. Thank you all for the effort.
