Cool things you just noticed in DF
« on: September 04, 2008, 10:33:36 pm »

I just noticed, if you're a z-level above someone and charge at them, the text displayed is not charge, but leap! Interesting flavor. Did anyone else know this?

Right now, my human adventurer just made a graceful leap down a slope to slash a zombie wolf's head off. He's so brave! Except now he's got a skeletal wolf on his abdomen.

Edit: As per the fourth (I think) poster's request, I've retitled this thread. Post things that you didn't find or notice before, but add flavor all the same!

I just read this weather report the other week:

It is raining.
There are mounds of clouds above you, smooth on the bottom with prominent upward bulges.

It's amazing that I've been playing for about seven months, and just now saw this cloud message for the first time.
Along with leaping, I wonder; is there anything else we haven't seen?

Methinks this thread should be retitled 'Cool things you just noticed' or something like that.  ;)

I discovered that the suck blood ability works when you play a nightwing.

i discovered that as an adventurer there is no skill cap, and if you set to "close attack" or something like that you don't punch things , but only grap and release (or strangle). these 2 things made me get an adventurer with legendary+20 wrestling. i was once attacked by 6 wolves. they couldn't hit me once. and remember that i was just randomly attacking until i started strangling, without punching, so it took a long time.
i also wrestled to death a cyclops. i gouged the eye, broken every joint and then strangled it.

and that adventurer was killed when i saw water going out of a river, went near to see what was happening and water flow took me in the river, and i drowned. :(

If you travel while on a door that door disapears.  Also if archers wern't bad enough but whenever you attack them they will automatically counterattack, even while sleeping.

Yeah, booze can be a weapon in Adventure mode. No wonder dwarfs need it to get through the working day, it literally packs a punch!

If you piss a priest off, they can shove their fist through your heart. It just happened to me.

In the very next turn he punched my torso into a lump of gore.

Just noticed: Priests are dangerous.

How do you get the 'battle Anouncement stuff' like in Adventure mode in Dwarf fortress mode.
Logged
Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

I'm not so sure it's there, but it would be a good idea for a suggestion topic!

You use a utility called "Dwarf Companion." It's on the wiki somewhere. Not sure if it works in the current version.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
