Display cases?
« on: August 08, 2010, 10:43:43 am »

Is there some way to build a display case or display stand so I can put my random artifacts to good use?  I'd love to be able to put an artifact crown on display in my dining hall, or maybe put an artifact mitten on display in a noble's room.  Is there anyway to do this?  Or is it only possible with buildable artifacts like cabinets?

You can use kaypy's display case mod:

Needs regenerating of the world to start working, so if you're asking about your current fort, then no - only cabinets and the like.

Make a single tile custom stockpile of the artifact's type and configure max barrels/bins to be 0 and be sure only artifact quality is selected.

Once the artifact is placed you can either call the job done or you can construct gem/class windows/blocks  around it.

Some other mods like Genesis and Wasteland already have them, but they introduce other things as well. I personaly hope display cases and possibly bonfires will become vanilla content at some stage.

Bonfires? My curiosity is jumping up and down like a second grader who just learned there will be a field trip to the chocolate factory.

That's what I do, it works just fine.

Still, it doesn't add to the fortress wealth the way buildable artifacts do. Display case mod, on the other hand does just that, which can boost a room's value appropriately. It does not generate positive thoughts from admiring, though.

Ah, bummer.  At this point I was more concerned with getting some extra happy thoughts than increasing my fortress wealth statistic.  I'll have to use that display case mod for my next fort.
