Just looking through the other arena thread, I had an idea for a
identical similar series, but one which doesn't require reading of 70-odd pages to understand what is happening. So I have decided to make The Blood Throne, a vicious place where victory is impossible, and the only possible solution is to hold out against your opponent for as long as possible. Advance through the leagues, and you will unlock the most powerful weapon in the universe. But you will still be forced to FIGHT.
There will be certain leagues each of your characters may be in. From lowest to highest: Copper, Bronze, Brass, Iron, Electrum, Steel, Platinum, Aluminium, Steel, and two super-secret spoiler leagues.
To create a character simply select a gender, a race (Goblin, Dwarf, Human, Elf >.>, Kobold, or <Animal>man), select 10 skill boosts, and any equipment you want to buy. You have 75 dwarf bucks available, and a price list of all the stuff you ever want to buy is here:

x1 Wolf Leather (Expensive Leather such as Roc leather has it's own animal multiplier (Roc leather has x15 value), and may be restricted to Leagues, and also be more expensive (Roc leather, having a x15 value, puts it in the Iron League, which requires Superior Quality weapons (a x4 quality modifier). End result? Roc leather finishes with a x60 cost multiplier, not a x1 cost multiplier)

To see if you can buy a pet, simply go to the DF2010 wiki page, on the animal you want to buy, and look for the [PETVALUE] tag (Or look in your own raws). That is it's value. Cats for example, are 20 dwarf bucks each:

As with all things, pets are limited by league. The maximum value for a pet for each league is:
Copper: 1 Pet, 50 DB
Bronze: 2 Pets, Up to a value of 200 DB
Brass: 3 Pets, 600 DB
Iron: 4 Pets, 1600 DB
Electrum: 5 Pets, 4000 DB
Steel: 6 Pets, 8000 DB
Platinum: 7 Pets, 20000 DB
Aluminium: 8 Pets, 40000 DB
Steel: 9 Pets, 80000 DB
Initially, you can only buy anything in the second spoiler, at normal quality, with the following materials:
x1 Wolf Leather (You can also pick any leather from any animal with less than a x4 multiplier to cost)
x2 Bismuth, Copper, Lead, Nickel, Tin, Zinc
x3 Lay pewter, Nickel silver
x4 Trifle pewter
You can only go up a league if you win 2 fights (and yes, you can choose to stay at a lower league, but you don't get the sweet weapons)
To replace the fact that you can't choose weapon/armor item quality, if you have a charactor and have spare dwarf bucks, you can risk it on battles OTHER PEOPLE FIGHT in the arena. If you win a bet, you get 190% of your return (the other 10% goes to the cleaning crew, and to pay the warriors who are fighting on the field). ALL battles are taken as 1:1 odds (Except for special battles, where the payout would normally increase, and will be described in advance)
Q: How do I go up a league?
A: Win two fights. Once you do that, you will be invited to go up a league. If you say nothing, you will automatically move up one spot in the league, unlocking better materials, and better quality weapons. Steel is only 16 wins away!
Q: Why would I want to go up a league?
A: Better fights, better equipment available to you, better (and more) pets available to you, and bigger cash rewards at the end of each fight!
Q: Why would I not want to go up a league?
A: Because you are WEAK and a COWARD. Or someone really strong and very well built is in the league above you, and as a result, you don't want to fight them just yet. You just want to bide your time...
Q: What happens if I lose a battle?
A: It would suck if you got all the way to Iron League and then lost one battle and lost everything. Thankfully, modern dwarvish medicine allows those to pay for it to be brought right back from the brink. Therefore, if you lose a battle, you are immediately dropped 1 league, and your equipment will be slightly lacking as the other person would have looted a quarter of it. Your skills, however, remain the same. If you are in the copper league, however, you die for real, and the victor takes ALL the spoils of your battle.
Q: What happens if I win a battle?
A: Victory! You become closer to going up leagues, and also loot a quarter of your defeated opponents gear (rounded down). So if your opponent had a breastplate, a shield, a sword, and a pet dragon, you can pick any one of those items, and use it for your own nefarious means. Oh, and you also gain 1 skill point you can put into any skill, and a small dwarf-buck prize for your trouble.
Q: I have thirty breastplates. What should I do with them?
A: You can sell any items you don't want for dwarf bucks. Selling an item only returns 25% of its value, however. If you were to upgrade an item (improve it's material or quality), then you can sell the original for 50% of its value instead.
Q: Are there any special battles?
A: Occasionally there will be special battles. Special battles MAY have a league limit (If the limit is Iron, for example, a Steel league player cannot join), and usually have a player cap. Special battles always have a special prize for the winner, but you must sign up within 24 hours of the initial call!
Q: I am confused about the value of my gear.
A: Just ask. I can quickly do the math and tell you the value of each of your items.
Q: What version of DF are you using?
A: I will ALWAYS use the most recent version, irregardless of game-breaking bugs. If you devote your entire build into bronze maces because bronze has a bug where it is horrendously dense, and that bug is fixed, you may find yourself weaker than everyone else suddenly!
Q: Can I move down a league?
A: Not without losing a battle, sorry.
Q: If I am dead, but I still have some pets roaming around, do I still have a chance?
A: You lose when you hit the floor. You get to keep any surviving pets, however.
Q: If my pet dies, do I lose it forever?
A: If you survive the battle, you can heal fallen pets for 1/4 of thier usual cost (If you don't pay up, they die, and you will have to pay full price). If you fall in battle, you only get to keep any pets that have survived the battle. Those pets that died before you don't get to have the life saving dwarven medicine, sorry.
First battles will (hopefully) be within 24 hours.
