Economic Solution
« on: November 21, 2010, 04:46:12 am »

I had an idea on a solution to the economic problem. A big gripe is that the economic system doesn't work at all. I know part of it is due to the olack of coins being able to be restacked, but as for the rest of it, I had an idea.
Basically a noble, possibly either the broker or the bookkeeper, would set the base value of items, about once a season or once a year. This base value would be based of the good old supply and demand mechanic, so items that you have oodles of would be dirt cheap. Maybe have it to where some items are free to certain groups, like weapons be free for the military, and new picks free for people with the miner labor designated.  Ontop of the base price, your various nobles would charge taxes, probably on items they like. This would help simulate the taxes that real life nobles charge on random stuff.
On renting rooms, maybe have it where dormitories are always free.
I realize it's probably not a perfect fix, but it would be a step in the right direction at least.

It would work better than what exists now. Except everyone would then bitch and complain that it interferes with their mega-project construction as dwarves would no longer be able to never have to worry about money the second they hit proficient.
