Ok, this seems to be a frequent source of frustration from what I can gather: A dwarf turns moody and the ˇFUN! begins. Now, in this particular case my Gem Setter fell into the possessive mood, claimed a jeweller's workshop and went around the fortress picking up stuff until something wasn't there - so the detective's work begins. Checked the things he's looking for in the workshop's description (in this order, I deduced the first one from the stuff already gathered):
rough... color
stone... rock
bars... metal
leather... skin
cloth... thread
leather... skin
And the respective stuff that the dwarf had gathered so far:
rough brown zircons x3
tetrahedrite
sterling silver bars
reindeer leather
Now, it would seem like the cloth or leather is the issue so I checked my stacks and found there to be more than I'd like to count of leather (various types), cloth made out of pig fiber&/rope reed fiber and cloth made out of wool but none out of silk or adamantine. Then I checked his personal preferences and found the following:
Light brown
Giant leopard seals
Dogs
Mosquitos
Giant snowy owl tooth
Knuckle worm leather
Faint yellow diamond
Tin
Siltstone
Crowns
Bolts
Llama's milk
Whip wine
Giant ibex
As far as I know, none of these should matter with the cloth part and only one might matter with the leather (and I'm not even sure if preferences matter AT ALL with jewellers...). If the leather preference is an issue then that's probably bad since the vermins in question seem to spawn on evil biomes only and mine isn't of that type. But again since the cloth seems to be the next in order I thought I'd try to make a piece of adamantine cloth quickly to see if the problem were solved - it wasn't. So, could it be that for some unimaginable reason the dwarf wants silk cloth? Or something completely different? Am I missing out on something here? Any suggestions are more than welcome.
