Any solution for the CRASH WHEN TRYING TO TALK WITH NPCS bug?

Keep generating worlds.  It only affects certain worlds (not clear what percentage, but seems to be not that far from 50%).

Yes. Kill them, press X, select Butcher, 'g'et their meat and stuff, and 'e'at it!

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

Anyone else having trouble with twisting a lodged weapon?

I can't seem to manage it in this version, but I'm not sure if I didn't just forget the command.

Have you tried moving in the direction of the creature the weapon is stuck in?

This doesn't really pertain to the release, but why can we only see a portion of our world on the "Q" map? I'm traveling to the mountains on the edge in one of the blacked out tiles, and it doesn't light up or anything when I travel through it...

Stupid question, but where the hell do I find food and drink? I haven't found any shops or animals yet, and apart from rivers, I'm stumped.

I was thinking of making a misc object user demigod who, instead of learning the secrets of life and death from artifact slabs, just hits people in the face with them. Would a slab make a decent weapon? Is misc object user a viable alternative to hitting things in the face with a hammer? Also, has anyone tested if necromancer dwarf adventurers that are retired in a mountain hall can migrate to your fortress?

Food should be easily procured from animals when you find them. If you're having trouble just run around outside of town (if you're in the borders of a town or hamlet the animals are most likely domesticated and the civilization will become your enemy if you kill them) and try to find something to kill and use the (X) menu on to (b)utcher them. Alternatively you could (T)ravel the wilds for a bit as you're assured to be ambushed, though whether by a pack of wolves or a bandit gang is up to chance. Water is found in wells in the city (Stand near them and (u)se them twice and then use the (e)at menu to drink the water from the bucket. The same menu can be used while near a river, a murky pool (it has said I couldn't because it was disgusting every time I tried, maybe you have to be dehydrated before it lets you) or a dead body. Going off of that, blood is actually a great substance to subside on as it can completely cover you depending on how messy you fight. Funny enough that makes your body the biggest waterskin of all.

Healing is instant when you (T)ravel or Sleep from the (Z) menu. Any damage that remains after sleeping or traveling will be there for good. My last adventurer had his ear torn to ribbons, a missing lower left arm, and an inhibited left ankle and lower leg. Those last three injuries were all inflicted by a swarm of zombies grasping and biting at my left side as I attempted to push them off with my shield so I could break free and limp from the tower away from the mass of crawling torsos and appendages. While the wounds might get annoying at times, I'd have never remembered or even considered the gravity of that event had the yellow wounds not stared at me every time I checked the status page.

Can I use the old texture packs for the new version of DF? Also, does anyone know if any/which of the lazy newb pack's utilities will work with the new version of DF? Thanks

Do you mean tilesets?  It looks like Ironhand and Phoebus already released a quick update to be compatible with this version.  Mayday released something as well, but I know he switched to a mostly ASCII-based set recently, so I don't know if his thing is like the old set or new set.

So no one has found any shops with bags/waterskins or the like?  I usually stuff loot I'm going to sell in bags to keep better track of them, but I can't find a place to buy them.  There's tons and tons of food, bone carvers, and clothing shops though.  Haven't seen any metal armor, and only 1 weaponsmith and that guy only had silver weapons. :( (Bought a sword for fighting werewolves though).

Hmm, has anyone seen dwarf sized items for sale in town yet? I've been to two towns, neither of which have metal armor or weapon shops. There is an abundance of leather armor and clothing stores, and from what I've seen none of the stock is dwarf sized despite a good portion of the city being composed of dwarves/elves.

Even in the previous version, towns only sold human-sized stuff.  Dorfs have to kill and loot goblins and elves for armor.
I just noticed your post, yes, I have personally seen bags sold before, however they are hard to find

What's the most effective weapon against those horde of undeads.
I was using swords and deon's witcher. Igniting a ton of zombies is not a good idea. Any tip?

My best guess is axes. Whatever you're using, go for the legs first, then if you can't rekill them they're at least slow enough to run away from.

I just found a bunch of live rats, can I kill and eat them?

Yes. Kill them, press X, select Butcher, 'g'et their meat and stuff, and 'e'at it!

How can you kill them? I thought they were too small to target.

This doesn't really pertain to the release, but why can we only see a portion of our world on the "Q" map? I'm traveling to the mountains on the edge in one of the blacked out tiles, and it doesn't light up or anything when I travel through it...

Your character isn't familiar with the whole world, so they'll only be familiar with a relatively small portion of a big one (usually just a single civilization or a couple close-by ones). As for going to a map square and it still being blacked out, I don't know.

Stupid question, but where the hell do I find food and drink? I haven't found any shops or animals yet, and apart from rivers, I'm stumped.

You can get water from wells, that are in both towns an hamlets: quick-travel gives you a list of structures in the immediate area and "Well" will be marked in blue. Once you've found one, stand next to it with a container (waterskin, bag, barrel), use u to lower and raise it, then either drink directly from the bucket with [e] or fill up a container with .

Food you can get from stores (which are only in towns, not hamlets; check your map to see which you're in). I don't know why you can't find any animal, it's probably just the area you're in. I've found that on the outskirts of towns you can find plenty of the same animals that are around town (like turkeys), but wild, so you're free to kill and eat them. Remember, if the things say "tamed" and don't run away when they spot you, don't attack them. That means the townspeople own them, and will become hostile if you try.

I'm pretty sure slabs are stationary objects that you can't. Yes, miscellaneous object users can get by, but they are generally disadvantaged to actual weapon users because the quality of their "weapons" don't affect how good they are as weapons. On the last one, I'm not even sure if retired adventurers become fortress migrants is in at all right now.

I have a question.

Do worlds generated still have hard-coded temperature gradients? I mean when the top and bottom of the region is either much colder or much warmer then one another, no matter what settings you use? Like your tiny region is a complete hemisphere with an arctic icecap at top and a tropical equator at the bottom?

I remembering being quite pissed when I set my temperatures to minimum of -20 and maximum -10 and constantly had 80% freezing tundra and glaciers and 20% steamy tropical rainforest at the bottom.

I can't download or check out the game out right now, or I'd confirm it myself.

Alright, found a town and traded my clothes for some food.

Now, how do I get into the catacombs? They keep talking about them, but I can't move down any of the sewer grates, and the quest directon points me to some houses and no downward stairs or anything.

Catacombs and sewers are actually two different things: catacombs are underground labyrinths with crypts, whereas most of sewers are water-filled tunnels with some above-water sections (don't bother trying to go from one to the other underwater, you'll drown before getting there).

You can't go through the grates, you have to look around for an entrance. They'll be listed on the quick-travel notable structures list, so just go around town until you see "catacomb/sewer entrance". It also seems catacombs have entrances at the bottoms of keeps inside towns.
