2) Metal fist weapons or revamped gauntlets - something that lets you use a metal's properties instead of your bare fist flesh properties when you punch. Not sure whether you'd want the metal to be as dense as possible or as hard as possible given DF physics.

As dense as possible, probably, for offense. A dwarf's fist is like a giant hammer or mace, and current tests show that because weapons don't deform when struck, silver is the best of the current weapon materials for blunt weapons (gold and lead are better if you add weapon tags to them). IRL steel would probably be ideal, very heavy but the least likely to deform unless you include modern alloys.

The downside is, a silver gauntlet would be pierced by iron weapons unlike steel. Of course, if we added in weapons like the cestus, hand to hand combat is more viable, especially since DF doesn't take a weapon's range into account for melee. But I don't think we'll ever see wrestling return to the glory days of 40d. Toady made it too realistic.

I figured it was density. Though what ought to matter is mass, not actual density - else you could wipe everything with a wafer of Slade if it was at all possible to cut that thing.

Well, at least adventurers can pull the wrestling legends of old to a degree, but the poor attack aiming AI means wrestling will never be useful again in fortress mode.
