I can't decide between better Linux support or better sorted-lists

Are you using any mods? I did a bad install of genesis and was able to embark with forgotten beasts and frozen glue.

Did they come in barrels?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Help with Master Siege Clown
« on: November 25, 2011, 09:57:42 pm »
So my fort's population got "up there" and my military had a handful of swordmasters, many good warriors, and a few newbie recruits.

Then a goblin siege came, lead by "master". No special announcement; just the "vile force" announcement.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The goblins all die to my traps, and I sick my military on that clown.

Military now is dying by stomach bleeding and drowsyness.
The clown's gloves are cut off, and I think its clown shoes are broken, but it's still alive and sitting there near my jail and workshops.
(somehow it kept dodging and rolling all day long even with its injuries  :( ... )

So how should I have handled this? How should I go forward?
I can't find any caverns after ~16 Z-levels,
and my military was pretty good armed and trained with swords, with some axes spears hammers and maces thrown in.

Thanks for your help

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Coffins for pets? Come on

I atomsmash my pets, so my dwarves get some really unhappy thoughts about "Lost a pet" and "Forced to endure the decay of a pet".

They'll get over it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What are your dwarves thankful for?

My dwarves are thankful that my jail has lots of gold chains and booze.
They are going to celebrate by starting a tantrum spiral.

Have you tried involving SOAP in the mix?

I had a ocean fortress recently where I had a reservoir working with no well.
It worked for a little bit, but then for some reason the dwarves stopped using it.

I noticed that there was the typical "blood smear" next to the reservoir, so I assume the soap somehow contaminated it.
Not sure though

The Tombrabbits of Chaos has been in a state of, well, you know.

My dwarves just got finished an undersea adventure, involving crocodiles, underwater treasure, and of course death fun.

It all started with a mining "accident" in an attempt to fill a reservoir, well that lead to an ocean flooding my Rock-Crafts stockpile.
Treasure: Check

Well we walled that off, but the whole beautiful stockpile was flooded.
Then a goblin siege came, and for some reason a giant cave crocodile decided to "nest" in the flooded area (taking its rider with it of course)
Crocodile: Check

The croc kinda sat around for a few months, so I sent my fishers to fish.
Of course it's never that easy, and the croc chases down my starting 7 fisherdwarf and bites his butt to death.
Weaponization: Check

Of course the croc goes back down, and doesn't come out when my militia squats outside.

So, being a good dwarf, we decide to solve these 3 problems with 3 good solutions:
: Engineer some pumps and windmills to drain/wall off the area (ala drilling through an aquifer)
: Use the engineer civilians to lure out the croc from his lair our flooded stockpile
: Let the water flood even further during completion to serve as mud for a tree farm

And on the seventh day Armok saw all he had made, and it was good.

DF General Discussion / Dwarf Fortress referenced in comic
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:13:08 pm »
Today I was reading my webcomics before work and stuff.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Dwarf Fortress wriggle its way into day so early.

(Comic number 410 if it changes)

DF is stronger than caffine I think.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Killed Ghost: Bug or a Feature?
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:05:33 pm »
I have but one question. If you kill a ghost, and you do not bury them, do they spawn a ghost of a ghost?

They don't leave a corpse so I'm not sure.

Does the offending dwarf get jailed for double murder ?
