Title: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]
Post by: BlastoiseWarlorf on September 19, 2017, 06:31:19 pm
Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Current Players (click to show/hide)

Your head finally stops spinning, and you stop to examine your surroundings. You, somehow, are now innately aware of the general layout of the fortress located due south of you. Just as you begin planning your entrance, Rathine's voice flows from the crystal.
"A friend of mine once told me: 'Who Dares, Wins'. I appreciate the bravery you're showing here, and I hope you're rewarded thoroughly for it. Down to business. The fortress to your south is garrisoned by The Hand of the King and his men. It's rumored they're here to look after The Last Dragon Egg before it is transported to the king's palace in Yumti. Expect heavy resistance; The King's Hand is not one you wish to underestimate. As far as the scouts could tell, there is only one way into the fortress, though I'm sure thorough investigation can reveal some sort of chink in the armour. The map you are picturing in your head is connected directly to your brain, and will update as you progress. Check the crystal at anytime to see your general location and your progress thus far.
If you need to contact me, simply speak aloud. Good luck!"

Dash over to the northern part of the outer wall as quickly as kobold-ly possible. If I get close enough, the guards won't be able to get a good look at me. Be as stealthy as possible.

Wait until night time. See how the guard layout changes, if at all.

((Oh that makes sense. Change of plans.))

Wait until night time. See how the guard layout changes, if at all.
You quietly observe the guards atop the walls as the sun begins to set, waiting to see if and when a changing of guards will occur.

Shortly after the sun has set, it happens. The two guards you can see, who had stood vigilant throughout the day, step away from the ramparts and begin heading for the gatehouse on the southern end of the fortress. You assume that they must be swapping with their night-guard counterparts.

Quickly dash to the northwestern topmost tower, see if there are any handholds in the side. Even if there aren't, hug the wall like crazy to avoid being seen.

Quickly dash to the northwestern topmost tower, see if there are any handholds in the side. Even if there aren't, hug the wall like crazy to avoid being seen.

You sprint to the right, and quickly arrive at the northern-most wall of the watchtower. You tightly hug the wall, and search for any sort of way to climb up.
[10] Yes.... YES. You can see the path. You're visualizing your climb and the momentous rush of victory you'll feel when you reach the top. While day-dreaming of your success, you forget where the first handhold is. You know there is a path up, you just can't exactly remember where to start.

Poke around for the first handhold. Gotta hurry, before the guard change is completed.

Poke around for the first handhold. Gotta hurry, before the guard change is completed.
You search for the first hand-hold again.
[1] Its hopeless. As far as you can tell, the handhold no longer exists. Perhaps it never did exist? Maybe it was all in your head?

You hear steps echoing from further down the walkway - your guess is the guard's replacement is coming to take his post.

Retreat back into the cover of the forest. Set a small fire to the west, using twigs. To coax a reaction.

Retreat back into the cover of the forest. Set a small fire to the west, using twigs. To coax a reaction.

You retreat back into the woods, and quietly watch the new guard take his place at the ramparts. You skulk through the undergrowth for a bit, and try to start a fire to see what their reaction might be.
[7] It takes a few tries, but you manage to spark your tinder and a small fire comes alive. As it grows, the new guard yells something out to his comrades, and you see him leave his post.

Take cover a short distance nearby, and observe the guards who come investigate.

You hide yourself a short distance away, and await the guards.

After a few moments, a solitary human comes into view. Suited in steel armour, with a shield and a one-handed sword, he prods your small fire, occasionally looking up and around. As far as you can tell, he is alone.

As far as I can see, what is the composition of his armour? Full plate? How protective is his helmet? Are his joints protected or exposed?

You try to figure out whether or not there's a chink in his armour, so to speak (HAH)
[8] He's in full steel plate, including a full head helm, but it seems that the armour is just a touch too small for him. A small area of skin in his lower back is exposed, and vulnerable. Other than that, you can see no obvious weaknesses.

"Somulfoka. Valiyeyeye."

Start saying random shit in Kobold-language, try and lure this lone soldier further in the forest.

You begin uttering horrid Kobold curses about his family, his mother in particular, in hopes of drawing him further into the woods.
[5] He glances around, but seems to convince himself that he was just hearing things, and proceeds to start putting out the fire.
Title: Re: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]

Sneak up behind him and shiv him in the lower back.
Title: Re: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]
Post by: BlastoiseWarlorf on September 22, 2017, 08:03:29 pm
You quietly sneak up behind the man, and proceed to shank him with your dagger.

[5] The dagger sinks deep into his flesh, mutilating him as it enters. He lets out a bloodcurdling scream, and is dead before he hits the ground.

In the distance you hear a horn. Your assumption is that the other guards heard his cry and sounded the alarm.

(( The behind the scenes rolls there: you always hit from stealth, so the 5 there didn't cause you to miss, but it did cause the assassination to not be quiet. You out-rolled him (his roll being a nat 0), by 5. That's a D10 for damage, you rolled an 8. 2x from the dagger equals 16, and due to you finding a weakness, armour defense value was voided. 16 was overkill damage to the guard. ))

((Whoops  :P Was hoping a lower spine shot wouldn't be lethal. Completely forgot my weapons have actual bonuses.))

Climb a nearby tree, prepare my short bow. Try and get a mental image from the sky like I saw earlier, using my crystal.
Title: Re: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]

You try to climb a nearby tree
[4] But there are none with branches low enough for you to get a hold of and hoist yourself up. Your arms simply aren't long enough to wrap around any tree trunks and ascend in that way.

Regardless, you prepare your bow and gaze into the crystal, revealing the layout of the fortress from an aerial perspective.

Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)

All of the guards have been roused, and the majority have taken defensive positions around the keep and the gate-house. Two guards are headed towards your position.

Hide behind a tree, wait for the two guards to investigate their fallen comrade. Then pop an arrow in one of their asses, aiming for chinks in their armour.
Title: Re: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]
Post by: BlastoiseWarlorf on September 23, 2017, 10:28:51 am
You tuck yourself behind a tree, and wait for the two guards to reach the body of their fallen comrade. After sometime, they come walking up from the south, eyes alert and weapons drawn. Both wield a one-handed sword, and are equipped with steel armour. You search their suits for weaknesses.
[3] These guards are suited proper: the armour covers all of their flesh and chain links protect all of their joints.

(( Just want to confirm you still want to attack even without any armour negation, your last action was kind of conditional on them having chinks in their armour. ))
Title: Re: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]
Post by: NRDL on September 23, 2017, 04:02:20 pm
So it's basically impossible for me to do damage even if I get a hit?
Title: Re: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]
Post by: BlastoiseWarlorf on September 23, 2017, 09:15:04 pm
(( Not at all. Your damage is going to be reduced by their armour this time though, unlike the first guard. Damage is rolled by: 1st) beating their block/dodge roll, which you don't have to worry about from stealth. 2nd) Upon successful attack, which dice damage is rolled on is decided by how much you beat their roll by: 1-3= D5, 4-7= D10, 8+= D15. The number you roll on the damage die is then subtracted by their armour value for actual damage done. They're in steel, so that armour value is -5 off of damage. So, effectively, as long as you roll a 4+, you will have the opportunity to deal damage. ))

Sweet. Here goes nothing.

Aim an arrow at the neck of one of the guards. SNEAK ATTACK FIRE!
You take aim at the nearest guard's neck, and lose an arrow from your short bow.
[2] The arrow smacks into the nearest tree with a thunk, startling the guards. They look around, trying to find their attacker.
[7] The guard you had fired at sees the reflection of the moon in your eyes, and signals his companion. They begin to cover the ground between you.

Brutus
Your head stops spinning, and you find yourself in the forest behind the fortress. The area is blanketed by night.
"Our kobold friend is in a bit of trouble now. Two guards are advancing on him, he's due east from your position. The fortress' guards are currently on high alert."
The crystal's buzzing fades out.
Title: Re: Nox LTD. [The Fortress]
Post by: Ozarck on September 23, 2017, 11:07:23 pm
Can you tell me how many opponents there are in total?
Brutus will begin walking east. When he hears or sees the two guards, he'll move slowly until he is in rushing distance. If spotted, he'll simply charge. He'll attempt to shield rush one and knock him off balance, then swing at the other. You know, the usual tactics. If not spotted, he'll attempt to line the two up and charge, crashing one into the other. Then he'll attack whichever is closest.

Fifteen living and one dead guard. I was afraid of that.

Please tell the kobold to run in my direction.
If the Mistress sends the kobold his way, Brutus will back away from the fortress a bit, so as not to be in range of archers and will hide. If the mistress can direct the kobold to run right past his hiding place, he will wait for the two guards to come running by, and will step out and attack the first as it comes even with him.

If this is not possible, he'll do the previous action (spoilered below):

You take position behind a tree, listening for the pounding feet of the guards.

"Gistvatak. Alright."

Follow crystal's instructions, best chance of surviving this.
You bolt westward, with the guards hot on your heels. After a little while running, you pass a hulking man, armed to the nines, waiting for your pursuers. Must be your back up.

As the first, faster, guard is about to pass Brutus, he reaches out with a low, lopping blow aimed at the guard's midsection.
[ 5+3 ] The blade strikes the unaware man with brutal force, [Damage Roll: D15 = 9-5 (Armour)] and squeaks its way through the steel plate. The runes lining the pommel glow a dull red, as Terrible Edge takes its toll. A torrent of blood gushes from what should have been a relatively small cut. The man staggers backwards, halting his friend's charge as well. They both draw their blades, ready for the next onslaught.
[Guard 1: Status Gained = Severe Bleeding]

[Severe Bleeding. Each turn roll saving throw d10. <=5, roll d10 for damage taken. 6=< bleeding severity lessens.]

Inflict Severe Bleeding on the healthy guard. AKA, attack the uninjured one.

Spoiler: Brutus (click to show/hide)
You swing for the uninjured guard.
[ [6+3](Attack) vs [6](Block) ] And your blade slips underneath his attempt to block you with his gauntlet, impacting his leg, [D5 for Damage: 4-5], but the blade bounces harmlessly off of his armour.

The bleeding guard takes this opportunity to attack you from the side.
[ [7+1](Attack) vs [4+2](Block) ] His strike sneaks under your shield, impacting you in the midsection, [D5 for damage: 5-5(Armour)], but bounces harmlessly off of your steel plate.
[Severe Bleeding: Saving Throw = 6] His bleeding slows. [Now Moderate Bleeding: Roll saving throw D10. If <=3, roll D5 for damage. If >=4, bleeding severity lessens]

The guard you struck counter attacks with a stab,
[ [9+1](Attack) vs [1+2](Block) ] and you, unable to raise your shield in time, are struck full force by the point of the blade, [D10 for damage: 4-5(Armour)] but the blade bounces harmlessly off the heavy plate. More-over, the vibrations from the strike send the blade flying from his hands and into the grass below.

Quickly re-engage stealth mode, circle around the other guard, and STAB.
You quietly circle back around as Brutus duels the guards, and sneak up behind the still armed guard, dagger in hand.
[STEALTH ATTACK: [7], your blade strikes true, impacting his armoured back, [D10 for damage: 7x2 - 5 (Armour) and the guard screams in agony as your blade plunges into his flesh. You pull your blade from him and back up. The guard's are now actively noting your position, keeping you from passively re-entering stealth.

Appear and walk about a bit to get an idea of the area and where the guards are
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Your head finally stops spinning, and you find yourself in the forest nearby a large fortress. Your crystal buzzes,

"I think they'll make a fine distraction."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You quickly search the dead guard for anything of value.
[5] Other than his sword and armour, all he has on him is a plain iron ring. Likely not worth anything, but you take the sword and the ring all the same.

You head towards the north-eastern watch tower, swing your grappling hook, and release it. It sails in a wide arc up over the ramparts, and you give it a few strong pulls to make sure its safe. Satisfied that it is, you begin scaling the tower, and after a few long minutes, pull yourself up onto the walls.

Attack the unarmed guard! Push him abck, hit him with my sword. Keep him from getting his weapon.

Spoiler: Brutus (click to show/hide)
You direct a shove at the unarmed guard, and follow it up with a swing from your sword, content just to keep him away from his weapon.
[ [6+3](Attack) vs [10](Block) ] He bashes your sword away with a mighty swing of his gauntlet. Unfortunately, he over swung, and finds himself falling head over heels onto the cold hard ground.

The other guard steps in-between you, directing a slash at your head,
[ [2+1](Attack) vs [2+2](Block) ] but you knock the blow to the side with your shield.
[Moderate Bleeding: 8. No longer afflicted by bleeding.]

Stab the guard Brutus is fighting in the back, he has less chance of defending himself if he's already being attacked by someone else.
You take the distraction of the other guard as an opportunity, and stab at the defenseless guard on the ground.
[7] Your dagger strikes true, impacting his upper back, [D10 for damage: 10-5] and the blade peels through his armour, sinking deep into his back. A moan comes up from the man, and he stops moving. Not dead yet, but certainly on death's door.

Attack the armed guard. Keep his attention as much as possible so my teammate has the best chance at a flanking attack.

Kinda wish NRDL would finish off the other guy, but with that armor it's a bit of a challenge. This is proooobably the best move for now.
Also, tank v tank battles can be a tad long.
May I suggest that with heavy bleeding, at least one round's worth of damage is done at each level of bleeding? have the saving throw halve that damage instead of eliminating it entirely. Feel free to disregard this suggestion from a person who is currently wielding a "causes severe bleeding on nat. damage roll of 5 or more" weapon.

Quickly move to the other man, aiming for the weak point in his armour with my dagger.
As Brutus distracts the guard with his presence, you direct a stab for the gap between his chest plate and leg guards.
[4] You're slightly off the mark, and your blade harmlessly bounces off the bottom of chest piece.

Sneak up torwards the North eastern tower and toss the ring to the south, if the guard goes to investigate it place the grappeling hook on the wall so the others can get up and sneak back. If spotted and at range use bow, if in melee just stab the man with the sword.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
(You're currently on the North-Eastern tower. I'm gonna assume you meant North-Western)
You sneak toward the north-west tower along the ramparts. Upon seeing the guard, you attempt to lob the ring a fair ways behind him.
[9] Your aim was perfect, and the ring falls directly south of him on the ramparts. He notices the noise, turns, and walks toward it to investigate.
You take this opportunity to hook your grappling hook in, and toss the rope down the northern-most face of the tower.

Attack the armed guard. Keep his attention as much as possible so my teammate has the best chance at a flanking attack.

Spoiler: Brutus (click to show/hide)
You bring your sword down in an arc, aimed squarely at the head of the guard,
[4+3](Attack) vs [3](Block) and his gauntlet moves too slowly to block your blade, [D10 for Damage: 5-5(Armour). Though your blade skirts to the side, the runes begin glowing none-the-less, and you see blood begin leaking out from underneath.
[Status Gained: Severe Bleeding]

He roars as blood drips down the side of his head, and directs a furious stab at your chest.
[ [9+1](Attack) vs [3+2](Block) You're surprised at the ferocity of his strike, and move too slowly to block it, [D10 for Damage: 6-5(Armour). It pierces you chest piece, but only slightly, leaving you with a small cut and not much more. As he goes to draw his blade back, his fingers slip off the handle. The sword falls harmlessly to the ground, and he is unarmed.
[Severe Bleeding: 4. D10 for damage: 9

The guard sways uneasily on his feet, his blood loss clearly affecting him.

(( These higher rank missions inevitably turn into a grind as both parties try to out roll each other. On one hand, I think this provides a more entertaining feel over the long haul, as insta-gibbing all opponents loses its entertainment value rather quickly. On the other hand, long, drawn-out battle sequences prove to be remarkably boring in the short-term. Its a difficult thing to balance, and I'd be interested to hear all you thoughts. As for bleeding, its balanced that way for the player's benefit more than the NPC's. A good example is Dustan Hache's first fight in The Graveyard. If bleeding did half damage on the saving throw, he would have died inside of the first fight. At least this way, I give players the opportunity to try and heal themselves before the saving throw. Again, I'm always interested in feedback, but I think the current system works best with the player-npc balance kept in mind. ))

What happened to the other guard? The one that was already down? Either way, execute these guys. Attack until they are dead or until they become a threat again. If dead, loot the corpses. Spaz, I wish you'd have left the grappling hook in the other tower - the one without a guard. Nothing like being in the middle of a climb when the guard returns.

((Dustin chose top solo a high rank mission on his first go. High lethality is an acceptable result. In general though, if bleeding is OP, simply restrict wen it occurs. As for battles being a bit of a slog, well, I don't mind, until the point at which the battle involves enough players that waiting for posts becomes a chore. at that point, auto-ing actions, or repeating some basic actions [i.e. "keep attacking this guy until x or y happen] become possible alternatives. And to be clear, I am enjoying hte game so far. I just see certain places where balance might be weak, and lead to either OP players very early, or a couple of other possible outcomes. Well, time will tell, eh? for now, it's fun))

Spoiler: Brutus (click to show/hide)
One guard remains face down in the dirt, his chest very shallowly rising and falling - he's on death's door, unable to move.
You swing hard at the standing guard, looking to put him out of his misery.
[ [2+3] (Attack) vs [10] (Block) ] In one last act of defiance, he swings his gauntlet up and catches your blade. His block was good, but with his failing strength he can't push your blade away, and it strikes his chest, driving deep within. He shudders, breathing one last breath, before collapsing, dead.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You quietly wait for the guard to return, hiding in a blind spot of the rampart. After a few moments he does so, examining the iron ring as he walks by you, oblivious. You strike, aiming to slide your dagger into his back.
[STEALTH ATTACK: 7] You reach out and cover his mouth, silencing him as your blade pushes into his back. [D10 for damage: 5x2 - 5(Armour)] He struggles against your grip, and in response you shove him towards the northern-most rampart, hoping to toss him over.
[3] Your push comes up short, and he ends up on the floor of the rampart. Released from your grip, he screams for the guards.
[7] The guard directly south of you comes running towards you, sword drawn. The guards below also hear the call, but don't move. Its likely they have orders not to leave the door to the keep.

Keep stabbing these fucking guards. Whichever one is still alive after Brutus is done with the first one.
You turn your attention to the downed guard, and calmly execute the helpless man, sliding your dagger into his neck.
[Auto] Guard 2 has been Struck down!

Brutus and Nix
You quickly search the two guards. Each has a set of steel armour, a one-handed iron sword, and a guard horn. You check both of their pockets.
[5] Guard 1 has nothing of any real value on him. Two copper rings and a small cross-shaped pendant hanging around his neck.
[5] Guard 2 also has little of value. One iron ring, and an identical pendant.

You kneel down to grab his horn, and then stand.

You hear a voice ring out from the nearby tower. Distinctly Elvish, it pleads for help. Likely a co-worker, you think.

You grab the second of the two horns, strip all of the rings from the guard (two copper, one iron), and grab their pendants. You take a good long look at them.
[10] You remember this insignia from a time long ago. It is used to express faith in the largest human religion, that of Chrima. Them both having it makes you assume that they both followed the faith, though if the other guards wear similar ones, this might be a branch of The Church. That thought sends shivers down even your spine; They had sent crusades against groups who had done far less than killing a detachment of guards.

The other guard arrives and helps his friend up, before they both chase after you.

Haeline
You regain your senses, and find yourself in a forest north of an intimidating stone construction. Before you can consider a plan of action, your crystal buzzes.
"Your allies for this mission are somewhat separated. Two lie due west of you, and one is up on the tower to your south. The one on the wall, Atyr, has left a way up at the north-west tower. Best of luck~"

The buzzing fades, leaving you alone in the woods.

Go to the tower with the rope and carefully, slowly, climb. Let the kobold go first if he is so inclined. Upon reaching the top, or falling to the ground, switch equipment from shield to one handed sword. Use Titan's Grip, to gain the two handed attack modifier on my bastard sword of bleeding.

Plant my bow, take aim, and snipe one of the guards chasing Atyr.
You plant the bottom limb of your bow into the dirt, and take aim at one of the guards currently running across the rampart.
[STEALTH ATTACK: 4+2] Your aim is slightly off, and instead of catching the guard center-mass, you hit the rear-most guard in the upper leg, [D10 for Damage: 10-5(Armour)] and the bolt sinks deep into his flesh. He calls out in agony, and has to stop his pursuit. He currently is leaning against the outside parapet.

Pull out my bow and aim for the guard helping the other up, aim for his knees.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You aim for the front-most guard's knees, which happens to be the one you ambushed atop the tower.
[ [8](Attack) vs [10](Block) ] His gauntlet rises with almost in-human speed, deflecting the arrow past him. Unfortunately, that deflection puts the other guard directly in the arrow's trajectory!
[1] He attempts to copy his friends actions, raising his sword-hand's gauntlet. Unfortunately, all he accomplishes is tossing his sword into the moat below as the arrow impacts him dead-center chest [D15 for damage: 3-5(Armour)], and is sent ricocheting harmlessly off of his armour.

The front-most guard reaches your location, and directs a downward swing at you with his sword,
[ [4+1](Attack) vs [4+2](Dodge) ] which you easily sidestep.

He takes a step back, and prepares for the next flurry.

I have a suspicion that attempting to climb a wall wearing full plate armor would result in comical misadventures. My alternative, however, is to bluff the guards at the gate.

Once you are situated, you hook your shield onto your back, draw a one-handed sword, and wield the Bastard in the other.

To the east, you can see one guard, injured, leaning on a parapet. Past him, you see another guard bearing down on an elf that you recognize as Atyr.

Follow voice, climb tower.

From stealth, shoot the guard attacking Atyr with my short bow.
You take aim at the un-suspecting guard that is bearing down upon Atyr.
[STEALTH ATTACK: 7] You arrow flies straight and true, impacting the guard in the center of his back, [D10 for damage: 6-5(Armour)] and just barely piercing his armour. He yelps in pain as the arrow lodges itself into his muscles. He turns and takes note of you, shouting for the other guard to be careful.

Now that he's standing still, shoot the injured guard in the head.
You take aim at the guard currently bent over the parapets, and unleash another arrow from your greatbow.
[STEALTH ATTACK: 10+2] The arrow thunders out from the bow, striking the guard full force in the center of his helmet, [D15 for damage: 15-5(Armour)], passing through the guards head and flying out the other side. A fair amount of his brain goes with it.

Guard 4 has been struck down!

Fall back and prepare to dodge the next bow and then trip the man by kicking his knees
And try to distract them by saying "oh shit, what's that " and look behind them, if that by some chance works shank them with an arrow and question people's intelligence..

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You step back, and attempt to trick the guard by pointing behind him.
[6] He hesitates for a quick second, and looks over his shoulder.

While pondering Human's stupidity, you direct a kick at his knees,
[STEALTH: 7] He grunts as the blow strikes him, and falls backwards.

auto success, huh? Well that made that decision easier.

If I can get to him while his back is turned, go chuck the wounded guard over the edge. Otherwise, just stab him a few times. If he's dead and I still have actions left, attack the other guard in the usual way.

You intended to throw the man on the parapets over, but after seing what appeared to be a javelin take his brain for a trip across the fortress, decide the now downed man is a far better target. You bellow a battlecry and charge, directing both of your blades in a brutal downward swing at the fallen guard.
[7+5] The blades impact his chest plate with a sickening sound, [D15 for damage: 8-5] and shear directly through. The runes on your bastard sword glow as they do, and you immediately see blood begin to pool underneath him. [Status Gained: Severe Bleeding]

He struggles to even breath; its likely you destroyed both of his lungs with this blow.

Holy shit, that's awesome.

Pick up my bow and proceed up the castle wall via grappling hook.
You set off towards the north-western tower, and find a dangling rope awaiting you there. You quickly scale the wall, and pull yourself up and over onto the ramparts themselves.

Re-engage stealth. Call upon mental map of the area.
Three long, drawn out calls bellow out from below you. Upon the third, you see all but two of the guards at the entrance to the keep disappear inside. You're guessing that must be the signal for 'fall-back'.

You crouch down behind the parapets, hiding yourself from vision, before recalling a map of the area.

Throw the dying man over the wall outside the fortress, answer my allies myself:

As far as you can tell, there are no stairways leading down off the wall. Your best guess is that the path down lies within the gatehouse.

You stash your crossbow, and again draw your bastard and one-handed swords. You put a bit of distance between you and the Kobold, before searching for the stairs.
There are no visible staircases down to the ground from the wall, making you assume that they are contained within the gatehouse.

"Fine, then."

Leave my bow planted where it is as a distraction, then duck back behind the wall. Loot the corpse that's here for anything useful, then stealthily circle around to the west.

Sneak over to the gatehouse, try and ascertain where the way down is, and where hostiles are.

"Fine, then."

You leave your bow standing upright, wedged in between two bricks, before ducking down behind the parapet and sneaking off toward the west. You take a moment to loot the nigh-headless corpse still balancing on the wall's edge.

[10] He has many fine golden rings on his fingers, and a very interesting amulet, shaped as a cross, that seems to hum slightly. Aside from this, he has a pouch containing thirty gold attached to his waist beneath the armour. You grab all of these things, the jewelry and the gold, before sneaking down the western most rampart.

Go help spaz open the door to the gatehouse.

Spoiler: Brutus (click to show/hide)
You try your luck on the gatehouse door.
[6] Your boot impacts hard, and you feel the door slightly buckle. It creaks open, the deadbolt bent.

Sneak over to the gatehouse, try and ascertain where the way down is, and where hostiles are.
You sneak along the parapets to the gatehouse where Brutus and Atyr are standing. You peak your head in the now open door, and the sight of stairs greet you. From this position, you cannot be sure of where the hostiles may be. You realize, however, that they certainly heard your entrance.

You step away from the door, your pride hurting more than your foot, and take a potshot at the keep's guards as a way of feeling slightly better.
[ [4](Attack) vs [4+1](Block) ] The left-most guard easily blocks your arrow, which clatters to the ground next to him.

If NRDL doesn't get the door open, boot it again.

If hte door is already open, just stride in, weapons out. Attack whatever enemy is first to face me.

Cautiously sneak into gatehouse.
Even if the door is open, I doubt sneaking in will be effective, lol. Ah well, I'll try to take all the attention then.

Leap over the edge of the wall into the keep. Run over and stab a guard with a dagger.

Go get my grappeling hook from the one guy then wait for the guards to head up the stairs in the gate house before anchoring the grappelling hook and climbing down
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You head eastward, looking for Haeline. You find her stretching for reasons unknown to you, and nab your grappling hook back from her belt. You stride back towards the gatehouse, and cautiously enter through the slightly open door. The Gatehouse is rather dark, with the only light being provided by the moonlight entering from the door behind you and the open bridge.

You are now standing on a wooden platform, with a set of stairs directly to your right. In the pale moonlight, you can see that this platformed is mirrored on the other side of the gatehouse, with its set of stairs leading to another platform directly beneath it, which then, in turn, leads to the bridge.

[5] You can't see the missing guards anywhere, but anchor your grappling hook and drape it down over the platform all the same. It unfurls, and falls down into the darkness.

Cautiously sneak into gatehouse.

You quietly enter the gatehouse behind Atyr, and stand behind him on the platform. You strain your eyes in the dark.

[1] The darkness is truly overwhelming, and you can't help but feel like you are surrounded on all sides by hostile forces.

If NRDL doesn't get the door open, boot it again.

If hte door is already open, just stride in, weapons out. Attack whatever enemy is first to face me.

Spoiler: Brutus (click to show/hide)
You confidently stride into the gatehouse, weapons at the ready, and are greeted by the same oppressive darkness.

[7] You strain your eyes, and can see no foes on this platform or any of the platforms adjacent to you. Since you are aware that two guards are unaccounted for, and likely here in the gatehouse, you assume that they must be waiting for you at some point below you.

Leap over the edge of the wall into the keep. Run over and stab a guard with a dagger.
You finish your stretches, and leap from the wall into the keep.

[1] Mid-flight you realize just how bad of an idea this was. Your jump was perfect, but the fifteen-ish foot fall can not be met by a pretty landing. You fall heavily upon your left ankle, letting out a loud yelp as you feel a sharp, hot pain stem from the point of impact. [D5 for damage, ignoring armour: 3]. The guards next to the keep hear you, and the right-most begins heading towards your position.

pick the grappeling hook back up, walk to the wall near the gate house and anchor it there, get ready to climb down the hook when those in the gate house go down the stairs.
