The Sister accepted the staff with a shrug.
"Well, I'm sure I can find a use for this."
Vervain had spent the time purchasing materials for her smoking habit, and she rattled a tin thoughtfully in her hand.
"Though I'm not technically an officer of the law, darling, unless you mean God's law. Which, of course, I suspect you don't."
She smiled distractedly.

Vervain raised an eyebrow (not that anyone could see it) at the way the pay was divided between them. A set amount, reduced by number of guards?
"What a curious system of payment. No wonder you always have trouble with recruitment."
Much of the coins the nun recieved would have to go to the Cathedral; she wasn't an employee of the guards, as such, but a few funds going into her own means wouldn't be missed. She pulled out her cigarette tin and looked inside, seeing the woeful emptiness.
"Well, then, I know where I'm going. It's to the markets with me."
"If any of you feel like embracing God's salvation, feel free to come to the Cathedral, darlings. I can take confessions if you get too wild in your day off."

As with all these make-yourself sort of things, it might be cheaper to buy flour (and I guess the power spent in cooking it and w/e else) but it also costs more time, and you gotta find a balance between the two costs.

Can't wait for the new setting 41K: Age of Ultramarines

"Perhaps not surprising, but I saw things saying riding into storm clouds is very dangerous, and not just because of the winds. I've read accounts of pegasus riders who got caught in storm clouds coming out covered in ice until their mounts couldn't bear the weight."

Honestly it's kind of been the same for almost all the factions when they first came out.

It felt the most egregious for the daemons of chaos since they lean so hard into singular playstyles, but it's been pretty true for all of the factions before dlc fleshed them out. Skaven on release were very haggard to play, iirc.

The mage weighed the tome in his hands before putting it away.

"Thank you. I'd wish that there won't be a need for me to use it - but somehow, I can't imagine that wish coming true."

"Ah, how delightful! The naivety of... youth?"
She considered the helmeted man. She'd never seen him without that bucket on, come to think of it. Well, whatever; she lightly shrugged to herself.
"Either way, darling, surely you know better. As sin is the fruit of the tree of man, not God, failures are inevitably revealed as the fruit from someone else's branches."
The nun chuckled.

Ah, X-Piratez Discord.  What a tire fire.
I very much like Xpiratez. All the same this is so unsurprising as to be remarkable

What I was considering for making food important in 5E was using the rule variant where 8 hours is a short rest and 7 days is a long rest, which makes hit dice a more scarce and valuable resource. Then, eating better food will regain hit dice. Possibly other benefits as well for high quality food, letting you have more hit dice than your maximum or passive buffs and such.
Perhaps you could wind it into a more general quality of rest sort of thing.
A low quality rest - squatting on a battlefield gnawing raw horsemeat - restores very little and only lets you spend one guy die or whatever.

A good quality short rest, with proper food in a place warm and dry and comfortable - does more.

You could have something similar with long rests, where being wined and dined in a luxury hotel serves better than a night in a ditch.

Vervain had been about to give her honest opinion on the business of jumping into a godforsaken pit to wriggle after theoretical criminals when the messenger arrived.
"My, how fortunate. Now we can return, so we don't need to jump into a filthy, random hole."

At the sight of the elfire tome, the mage's expression changed, somewhat, to something that was almost but not quite pain. He shut his eye for a second.

"Quite definitely the elthunder, please."

When he opened his eye again, his expression was back to normal.

"In truth, I'm best at wind magic, but thunder can pack a good punch, too."

"Until we know more about what might happen, I'd agree; long term plans might not be relevant until we can see the path of things."

"But however it ends, I intend to be here to help."

You wouldn't happen to remember what that was called because that sounds like it'd something I'd like to read.
Empire of the East, as I recall. I haven't read them in a long while, so I don't remember how well they hold up.
