Age Names
« on: July 14, 2008, 07:16:58 pm »

Interesting stuff!  I like that it's no longer just Myth, Legends, Heroes, Golden.

I just got a world that ended in 2008 (heh) with "Age of Civilization".  No fantasy creatures at all.  Just humans.

It's kinda depressing.

What sort of interesting ages has everyone else seen?

All my worlds end in year 200 (for medium) or 300 (for normal) thanks to too many megabeasts dying. I've only ever gotten myth, legends, and heroes.

Maybe I'll try lowering or removing the megabeast cap and get some more interesting ones next world.

Same.  The only time I've seen anything but Myth/Legend/Hero is in a pocket world, where worldgen finished at the year 30, in the Age of Hydra and Demon.

You know there's a number of easy fixes for that, right?  setting the year to check to be higher, or the percentage of beasts dead to null.

For the mayan/aztec (I forget) thing, I'm guessing?

But the problem is: no dorfs.  Can't play fortress and time goes by really slow in adventurer.

Not just the mayan thing. Also, how well the administration of the next president goes, and just about everything else.

Isn't there a way to select a human civilization for a human fortress?

only with modding

Funny I thought the game auto rejected (or crashed) if there were no dwarf civs for fortress mode. Guess not!

Well it's a parametered world.  One of the params was not requiring playable races.

i was half expecting a kobold-only world at some point.

Megabeasts ought to be made much tougher. Tough to the point where it takes entire armies to kill them, and no single adventurer would stand a chance against them. (Unless, of course, said adventurer was a Legendary Ambusher and Legendary Thrower.)

If that happens though, we'll never finish world-gen.  They should definitely be buffed, but let's not get carried away.

I set one of my worlds with an end year at 10,000. I set the "Year to Begin Checking Megabeast Percentage" at 9,900. I started worldgen somewhere around 1:00 PM Central. It is now 9:08 PM (Central), and it still isn't done with worldgen. It's currently at year 8198 for legends creation. It's been at the Age of Heroes since somewhere around year 1000.

Luckily, I did this world on the computer that doesn't have an internet connection.

I just got "Age of Emptiness".  "When only simple creatures inhabited the world".

Starting civs:  Zero :(
