Kelp forests! Yeah it'd be great to see the coastline get some more love.

Good to see the "every dwarf carries a dozen mugs" bug gone.

I'm still having trouble with visitors waltzing off with my scrolls and books, though. Kind of a problem for my Great Library fortress.

DF Modding / How do I reduce dwarven religious tendencies?
« on: January 16, 2016, 11:40:04 pm »
I've been rooting around trying to find what creature tokens, personality traits or mental attributes govern: how many deities a creature worships, whether they're a dubious/faithful/etc worshipper, and how important worship is to their effectiveness.

Has anybody successfully messed with these?

I'm really really digging ninedots' recent, less abstract work.

Midas, that is one creepy crawler.

Yeah, I suspected at the time it would be gone, along with a bunch of stuff from that 'era'. Now I've gone back and checked and I don't have it.  :'(

I quite like ninedots' ventures into a more realistic style.

I'm excited to get back to DF after a couple of months of real life interfering, new versions have been flying in at a rate of knots.

Ah, a Reddit user managed to identify it:

http://www.mostlyoriginal.net/category/elder-brain/page/2/

It's actually quite a bit different from what I remember (directly inspired by DF, for instance!), and unfortunately it looks like it never saw any further development.

Absolutely sure. They were blogging about their entire design process.

I asked this on reddit r/roguelikes, but the forums here also seemed like a solid bet.

For a personal project (I think for the Seven Day Roguelike Challenge, or something like it), someone was designing this kind of roguelike game. They were blogging about their design process. This was at least three years ago, probably more.

I don't remember if the exact phrase "mind flayer" was used, but there were definitely spawning pools, brains, slime, tentacles, etc. The player would set up in a cave and various human villagers or adventurers or whatever would venture in to attack you (a bit like Kobold Quest). It was all in ASCII.

I'm asking because they had some great ideas and I want to know if it went anywhere, and it's been driving me crazy trying to remember exactly what it was. I'm hoping for a link to the original blog posts, possibly through the Wayback Machine.

I am excited for the new lever-pulling labour. Combined with burrows, this is going to make elaborate trap-based defence so much more viable.
