I was recently messaged by a former player of Lordship, inquiring as to whether there was any possibility of unlocking and continuing the game. As it has been a month and tempers and emotions have likely cooled, I said I'd consider it.

As part of that consideration, I wanted to ask the forum and gauge the thoughts of other former players. Is there any interest in this? Should I unlock it? Should I let sleeping dogs lie? The other possibility is me starting another suggestion game, which I've been contemplating as well. Just wanted to get some input from my former (and other prospective) players.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about (and would like to read 230 pages of thread), check out the link in my signature. Looking forward to seeing what you all think.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Lordship: A Suggestion Game
« on: January 01, 2013, 07:43:54 am »
You can still remember the sounds of battle clanging in your ears. The smell of blood hanging in the early morning mist. You still aren't quite sure what brought you to the small hill, what spurred you to charge recklessly forward. All you know is that, when the day was done, people were telling you that you had saved the King's life.

Your life was so simple before this. You farmed a small plot your father left you, drilled with your lord's local militia, and mooned after the marriageable local women. A plain, but dignified existence: a young man's life. Now you weren't so sure what will come ahead.

All you are sure of is that the boring steward who is sitting at a small desk surrounded by courtiers has droned on for most of the morning, as you sit uncomfortably on an oak bench in the Royal Audience Room. You are quite bored, and your "nice" tunic looks woefully out of place amongst all of the finery. One of the other fellows, dressed much nicer than you, indicated that the King would not be in attendance. So you sit, and wait, and wonder what you were called here for. The letter, read to you by a local friar, didn't give any indications beyond "a reward for valiant service to the realm."

Suddenly, out of the din of conversation, you hear your name ring. What is it?

GM NOTE: So this game is basically a medieval setting, analogous to Earth but distinct (i.e. no countries we know but otherwise the same). You will be a newly minted lord pulling yourself up from the bootstraps. Next turn you'll pick the land, and then the game will most likely move at a season a turn. If you've seen or played any of my other games before, know that I'm not super into stats and complicated systems. I like to have fun, keep the story going, and not worry too much about details. Hope you'll all enjoy playing!

Anyone play? I am new to the game but am enjoying it very much. Would love to find some B12 folks to friend and trade gems and tips with!

Other Games / Thinking iPad Games
« on: August 09, 2012, 02:12:55 pm »
So I'm looking for a good iPad game to use up some free time for gaming this weekend. I am looking for something intelligent that requires strategy (not a reflex or speed based game), with good replayability.

Any suggestions? I'm looking at Starbase Orion, World of Goo, or Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Splintered Ark OOC Thread
« on: June 10, 2012, 09:19:51 pm »
So, here's a thought to throw out there. I've seen lots of forum suggestion games with tons of promise in here recently, but it seems that they tend to die out after a little bit. I know I got burnt out writing my own Terraforming game after a nice little run.

I was thinking it'd be neat to put together a suggestion game where there was a set rotation of GMs. You make your GM post, then you rotate back into the pool of players til your next turn at GM-ing comes up. While this would lead to different styles and whatnot, I think it could work and reduce the problem of having early-game burnout, as you'd only be posting once every few turns (depending on the # of GMs).

Any thoughts on this idea? Any interest? If there are people who want to GM, we could figure out a setting of some kind and give it a shot.

DF General Discussion / Updating a save from 34.04 to 34.05
« on: March 06, 2012, 03:03:52 pm »
Any ideas on how to do this? Toady gave some mention of body plan files needing to be updated, but I don't know exactly what that means.

All I know is, when I try to run my 34.04 fort in 34.05, I get this message:

"Fatal Error: Missing Creature Body Definition: RCP_Eyelids"

Then it crashes.

I updated raws in the save file and everything. Any ideas? I'd prefer not to re-gen the world if I could, really enjoying the fort I'm working on.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Abandoning a Fortress - Are Dwarfs Persistent
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:14:15 pm »
I feel like I know the answer to this question, but I'm not entirely sure. So, when a fortress is abandoned, will the dwarfs that inhabit said fortress become available as migrants in newer forts? Thanks in advance.

Life Advice / New Desktop PC... advice?
« on: February 24, 2012, 11:32:24 am »
So my current system seems to be fading out, having some problems getting it in and out of sleep mode/some random crashing. It's about 4.5 years old, so it's probably time to get a new one.

I want a desktop, something that can game (although I tend to play more DF type games, less graphic intensive), photo edit, and so on. Any suggestions on brands/places to look/things to check out? I don't really want to build my own rig, as I don't have that experience. Appreciate any thoughts.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Terraforming: Suggestion Game
« on: February 21, 2012, 10:21:10 am »
You are a Sentient AI, charged with protecting and nurturing a small colony of humans. Your ship, which holds 5,000 hibernating humans (50% male, 50% female) along with a Noah's Ark of plant and animal specimens, is sitting in orbit of your target star. Your ship also holds the key to terraforming: a nano-factory, tucked safely deep within the hull. After your long and uneventful journey, you have arrived.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Miners won't take a pick
« on: February 16, 2012, 05:52:20 pm »
Hi all, long time no post. Jumped back in for the new version, and I have run into a bit of a pickle.

I've got a moderate, growing fort (~50 dwarfs), but only one pick to go around. That pick was held by a miner who got injured in a cave-in. I got him to drop it by designating it for dumping, but now no other miners will pick it up. It's not forbidden, either. Any thoughts?

I am on my way to make a new one, but I don't have metal yet, so that'll be tough. Caravan will arrive eventually, too, but it's a bit odd.

Other Games / Captain Forever... again!
« on: August 16, 2010, 03:20:53 pm »
So I found Captain Forever, and I saw that the thread hadn't been posted in for... forever (/funny).

Anyway, thoughts on the game?

This is my most recent ship:

Spoiler: Ship (click to show/hide)

Small, but very powerful.

The game can be found here, and is a free in-browser space shooter/ship design game.

DF Suggestions / More efficient building
« on: August 15, 2010, 06:48:28 am »
I'm sure this has probably been suggested before, but it'd be nice if dwarfs were better at clearing out building sites. I hate jobs that almost permanently go back to being suspended because there is an item sitting in the construction site, no matter how small.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Healing Criminals
« on: June 24, 2010, 01:20:53 pm »
So my guards horribly mauled one of my dwarfs then chained him up for 50 days. Is there any way to heal him? What if I designated my prison as a hospital zone? Any thoughts?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Baby and animals... healthcare?
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:32:36 am »
So in my current game (31.06), I have a baby that was caught in a melee and now needs a diagnosis. I have two doctors sitting around twiddling their thumbs. A similar situation has occurred with a war giant leopard. Do animals, children and babies not get healthcare currently?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Guards in DF 2010?
« on: June 17, 2010, 09:51:24 am »
So I've finally gotten my first fortress up to the point where I wanted to have some guards (not soldiers) in 31.06. I checked the wiki and did a quick search, but didn't really find much info on how guards work in the new version with the military overhaul. Anyone have some insight?
