How Watertight Are Glass Windows?

Will glass windows hold pressurized water?

Are they watertight to low-pressure water or mist?

Are they airtight against miasma?

as far as I know your answers are

yes

yes
and
yes

they are a building, however, not a construction, so don't drop a bronze colossus outside them or you might find your dwarves in need of some swimming lessons *fast*

Can dwarves see and admire things through them, though?

I'm guessing the answer is no...

they certainly USED TO BE (in 2d) tight against everything.  dwarfs will admire the window its self, but i've never had one facing a statue or bridge or engraving or anything else that they might have tried to admire THROUGH it.  i've always had windows opening out on natural features like outside, chasm, river, whatever.

I have never observed a dwarf that was "soothed by mist" or whatever, through a window to a waterfall.  that does not mean that they havent been, just that i havent seen it in my forts that have had those.

Here's a test: build a bunch of windows around a goblin cage in the dining room.  Release the goblin.  Does everyone freak out?

windows are transparent in adventure mode, so I'm fairly sure dwarves can 'see' through them. I've never actually tested them very much so I can't confirm it though.

Would love to have this confirmed.

You CAN see through them in Adventure mode, yes.
From previous discussions I have come to the conclusion that your Fortress mode dwarves CANNOT see through them.

This could definitely use some sort of verification, though.

the OMGMOMMYTHERSAGOBLINBEHINDTHEWINDOW-test seems the best conformation method.

In my experience, the dwarves can see goblins through the windows.  I built an arena to train military with captured goblins surrounded by green glass windows, and put tables and chairs on the "safe" side so the civilians could enjoy watching the gobbies get slaughtered by champions.   Unfortunately, they all get frightened (interrupted) away when the carnage begins.

I dunno about still being able to enjoy a statue from the other side... dwarves can see goblins from a few squares away anyway.  I guess the real question might be, how close does a dwarf need to be to a stationary object in order to admire it?

I can confirm that Dwarfs can see goblins through a window.

In my fortress, I have a rather large tower in the center, with a bedchamber, an office, and a dining room at the top.  The rooms have windows.  As I do not have anyone assigned there, and the room is quite nice, lots of dwarfs like to eat in there.

During sieges, I get constantly bombarded with canceled eat messages, from Dwarfs seeing the goblins through the window.  Goblins that are about 6 or 7 stories down from the window.
