Lomography
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:28:23 am »

A few months ago I saw a video on lomography. Don't know which one, or I'd link it here. (But the person being interviewed/followed turned out not have a roll in his camera.)
Lomography is photography with cheap (technically) and 'bad' cameras, most likely made of only plastic. The name comes from cameras of the Russian LOMO brand.

Lomography has Ten Golden Rules:
  • Take your camera everywhere you go.
  • Use it any time – day and night.
  • Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it.
  • Try the shot from the hip.
  • Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible.
  • Don’t think. (William Firebrace)
  • Be fast.
  • You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film.
  • Afterwards either.
  • Don’t worry about any rules.

I'm posting this topic because I aquired a LOMO Fisheye camera, which they are selling on their website for 40 euro. I bought it for 70 cents.
(I also got the game 'The Longest Journey' for a euro).

I was wondering if you might know something about it, and give me tips. I might also use this topic to post some pictures I take (If the camera turns out to be not broken).

Here are some links.

And a picture of the camera I got (not my picture).

I plan on taking it with me when I go to a summer camp to fly gliders. I think I could take some neat pictures there.

Haha, as soon as  typed that, I knew that it would attract attention. I have trouble getting it to work right on vista. Black cutscenes and bits of scenery disappearing.

I had similar problems. I overcame it by running in compatibility mode, but some places still had a couple issues, but for the most part it was perfectly acceptable.

Edit: Actually, you need to get the DVD version.

One suggestion. Do what I did.

There are a lot of opponents to lomography, and their points all revolve around it being 'invented' by marketing students. The opponents say it's quite weird that they are promoting individuality and spontaneity while charging a lot for their cameras. Ruining the point of taking fun pictures with a cheap camera.

BUT

The camera I got actually WAS cheap.

Please note I'm not stopping you from getting one, can't wait to see the results! ;D
