Embark crashes on Linux

Hi guys, got my first fortress up and running, got a population of around 100 dwarves now, and thought I'd try out adventurer mode. I can get as far as making my character, but when I hit enter, the game instantly crashes. All that's left in the command prompt I launched it from is this:

./df: line 6:  5505 Segmentation fault      ./libs/Dwarf_Fortress $*

and gamelog.txt just has:
*** STARTING NEW GAME ***

Tried running it with sudo, and it's no better. It works in wine though, so that's what I'm using for now. Any insight appreciated.
