Why Specific Stockpiles?
« on: November 13, 2006, 10:20:00 am »

- or rather How?

The latest versions with their specific stockpiles feature are a great step in fortress management, but what new invention, be it technological, social or whatever, in dwarven civilization made this possible?

Did my dwarves come up with a new and more detailed way to mark the stockpiles, or do the change go deeper? Maybe they only recently developed the alphabet! Do you have indications as to whether dwarves actually are literate?

How do you explain your dwarves sudden ability to cooperate in more specific stockpiling?

hmm, but if so, how come they hardly recognized a food stockpile from one full of furniture the first couple of years of the fortress?

this has nothing to do with dwarven chronology... it's not like there is no specific pile until a few years into the game.

The answer is obviously a combination of witchcraft and evil gypsy magic.

You might also ask why they suddenly realized there is such a thing as a left shoe and a right shoe, not just "shoes".

Do not adjust your raw files.  You haved entered a game of many dimensions.  This world may look and act almost the same as version 0.22.011.b, but in fact, you've entered - The Twilight Zone.

Come on, seriously?

Yes, and why do my dwarves no longer walk into lava?

Was it perhaps evolution? After so many dwarves walked into it, losing their lives before their prime breeding years, the only dwarves who remained, and thus passed on their genes, were those who could sense heat?
