Terrifying Taiga aka Noob Has Some Problems
« on: August 31, 2013, 06:30:53 am »

Hello,
I tried to embark in terrifying taiga biome, buried myself underground with all my stuff and built a wall around the entrance to keep random Thrips Man Corpses away. I feel safe, start engraving quarters, go outside to gather some wood for beds. Migrants arrive, zombies kill them all, so my mason finally got a job. Also, it made me avoid going outside (much more zombies). Survived the  winter, the spring migrants wave arrives and my mechanic gets possessed. I tried to keep my population below 21, but when I get more than 21 migrants, then it is impossible to avoid strange moods. I got everything except wood. He wants WOOD. So I dig a long 1 tile wide tunnel to the edge of a map, and fell some trees there. What I neglected to check was if every single migrant died. Unfortunately, there were 2 children still alive, who rushed towards my not-so-secret fort entrance, alerting all zombies nearby. Probably could have avoided that if I switched civilian alert off, but I didn't want my idle dwarves to come outside when Giant Thrips' and Harpies' Corpses were flying around. Children managed to enter the fortress, so did zombie dwarves. Then, in all this mess, my mechanic goes berserk.
Next time I am gonna smash all those migrants with bridges  :'(

Hehe, it might be safer to go to the caverns for wood, next time.

I would have just walled up the mason. Harsh but necessary in a zombifying biome
