Unfortunately, your screenshots don't seem to be working! Perhaps they only work if someone has signed in to Dropbox; for me they're not showing up.

That's really odd, they should be working since I put them in the public folder. I'll fiddle around with them.

Really? Odd, since I was getting 100 fps right till the end of my turn, and I was playing the game on my shitty laptop even.

Whatever works for you is fine...If you really want my opinion, I'd say multiple updates, if only because it's nice to see a steady flow of "Yes, things are happening with the fort".

Only one large spoiler and probably no images because I just...don't know how. Oh well, more for the imagination anyways, besides this is a journal entry not a Pictionary.

A dark cloud swarmed towards a nearby dwarf and then pinged off of it, bouncing around as it swarmed throughout the entirety of the fortress, in only about twelve seconds the entirety of the fort's population had been touched, excluding animals. A darkness would blink into their eyes for a moment before disappearing and a whispering echo would sound.

"Speak to me, give me your thoughts, speak, speak, talk to me, please talk to me, speak to Exodus...speak to me.

Journal Entry, 1rst Granite, 252.
I have taken control of them, taken control of their entire petty little fortress, it was not hard. Not after they awakened me from my sleep inside of that dreaded creature Mut. It was a good enough host for the past...millennia or so, but now I have found something better. Though, looking through all the eyes of these dwarves I find interest...and oddities.

I've changed my mind, perhaps this messy institution isn't better...oh well, no going back now.

I waited for a couple days for the miners to work...however now I realize...they are dead.

Appointed Ilral as our new miner, though it occurs to me that whatever killed the others may be of consequence.

Elven caravan has arrived, dwarves love elves right? They did last I checked...two hundred years ago so! We'll trade with them happily!

We traded a bunch of these stupid rock crafts as well as several splendidly cut gems for a load of animals, some fruits, a couple of fantastic harps and some clothing for the poor dwarves. They sure could learn a lot.

Think I'm gonna have to stop early...extremely early, my computer simply can't handle the FPS strain which is quite odd considering I run higher numbers of units at a steady 60-70 FPS.

I can't take it anymore, these foolish little idiots have caused far too many problems and I yearn for a new host...I will follow the elves out...hopefully to something better...stronger. In the meantime, I am releasing the grizzly bear we purchased, hopefully it's tameness isn't some falsity.

2nd Slate, Mid-Spring

At last, finally arrived at this new outpost. Guys back home said they had heard no news of it since the original group of 7 left, and that they have totally no idea of what sort of batshit insanity will take place. They were giggling while they said it, though, so I will trust them.

First thing I notice when I arrive is the messiness of the place. Giant rooms everywhere and some funny tower construct thing with plants growing on top. Then there is this strange hole in the ground that nobody tells me anything about. I ask for stocks, and WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE HAVE AROUND 400 BOULDERS? WHAT DO YOU THINK WE ARE, HUMANS? We are dwarves, dammit, we will count these things down to the last bee in those hives even if it is the death of us. Why I tell you, back in my day, that kind of insurbodination will mean a sure trip to cavern duty. Speaking of cavern duty, what do you mean we don't have a militiary?

10th Slate, Mid-Spring

Much better, the bookeeper now has an office to keep stock in, and I've told him to count everything down to the last bit of squashed vermin on the doorstep on pain of hammering. On another note, I've discovered where that hole leads to, apparently there is a whole magma forging complex down there. I've decided to, in my tenure as Overseer of this Outpost, that I will improve the conditions of staff there, notably by making the commute shorter.

7th Felsite, Late Spring

Phase 1 is complete! An automated minecart system now delivers food to the complex. Let Phase 2 begin...

Also, SurprisedPalace's first squad, The Picks of Amusing, has been formed. Somewhere earlier, migrants have arrived. The fort's populace is now 53.

25th Felsite, Late Spring
One of the recruits has been taken by a fey mood. With luck, she may get off militia duty before they face off that forgotten beast that has been sitting around in the caverns.

3rd Hematite, Early Summer

It's summer already? Dang, I forgot to do the summer report. Those higher-ups will be after my back. Anyway, the recruit created a freakin bone statue. Back to the caverns she goes.

23rd Hematite, Early Summer

The medic training programme is going great! Whilst we mourn the death of the recruit whose name we don't bother to know, the rest of the squad are getting superficial injuries for the medics to train on. Hah! That would teach them to leach off our booze and food!

28th Hematite, Early Summer

After reading the death report on that recruit, I have decided to install ballista along our main entrance. Materials are being commisioned at this very moment.

11th Malachite, Mid-Summer

I've decided to remove the wall blocking off the second caverns and send the squad after that forgotten beast. Let this be a testament that Surprisedpalace trembles in fear of no one!

21st Malachite, Mid-Summer

I may have made a mistake. Reports from the forward recon squad, aka "SUICIDE", have told me that the cavern is now in flames.

6th Galena, Late Summer

The ballistas in the front corridor are now ready. The squad has fallen to a Jabberer. Apparently they forgot to pick up their weapons.

15th Galena, Late Summer

The Jabberer that murdered our first squad has been caught. It will be repurposed through training rather than bein dumped  into magma for revenge as some of my surbodinats have suggested

4th Limestone, Early Autumn

Phase 2 has been completed after much delay. Accmodations have been complete. I fear that I may not be able to complete Phase 3 before I leave, so I will outline it in this log such that others may continue it. They say that minecarts are strange things, with phenomena that even the dwarven mind cannot comprehend. Phase 1 was but a test, it is indeed true. Look for the ramp that leads to nowhere, that powers the cart from nothing. Imagine. We could build ramps like these, one level to the next, form an elevator that can ferry finished groups up. We could seal the forging sector away...These would be but just the beginning...segmenting the fortress...they called me mad...I'LL SHOW THEM MAD!

19th Limestone, Early Autumn

I feel the end of my term looming over me. I have selected that Engineer as my successor...hopefully he will continue the good fight I have started.

The beacon that I have installed over this fortress is complete, let all who read this be reminded that help is only a stone's throw away (hopefully).

Excellent work, Snail555. And fast!

I see you've played until 24th of Limestone. So, the next person can play a year, until that same day next year. If they want.

Also...I think someone might have been using a tileset that messed up the characters assigned to the various tiles. As we saw in Shadowgrave, to fix this you have to replace the raw/objects files with a clean copy. I think it might have been Exodus. (I really have to get in the habit of checking the save after every turn...)

Incidentally, I just peeked at our mayor...
