Yep, totally remembering an anime I watched that has sentient spirits aiding sentients by imbueing or living with them via items or otherwise (since they're corporeal if not inhabiting an item). Reminds me of Japanese and other Asian lore we've got here...

I think it's something with Immaterial--he provides the scenery even if it's a bit before or already mentioned to spruce characterization more. And personally, characterization is what everyone needs at this early point in the game.

Later on we can go that bolded action path of acting.
