Actually, I think ivory and horn are going to be in the next release. Also, I've occasionally seen hippo ivory among the stuff merchants bring, so it exists, just doesn't work properly.

I've only seen amber as a color preference, not as a material preference. You could easily mod in some amber gems though.

My guess is that [METAL_PREF] just means that the entity uses the best available non-[DEEP] metal for their equipment.

That is correct. The code from Civ forge is in there an an initial test to get civs to use certain metals, but didn't do what I wanted. Since it didn't hurt anything, I left it in.
