That sounds fairly similar to my situation -- 'bout 10 years in, adamantine discovered (though in this case, processed and a fair number of items worked, including a $750k artifact adamantine cabinet, the crazy little bastard), all industries going fairly full-out -- though I didn't limit pop and have been at 150+ for a long time.  I know when I got it with my first fortress, pop was much lower and production was more humble in almost all respects.

Not sure how relevant it is, but I did get a siege fairly early on (year 2 I think), and there was no dwarven caravan/liaison that year because of it.  But all liaison meetings have completed without a hitch -- just no barony offer.

I'm starting a new fortress now, so hopefully this one sees a barony.

Just out of curiosity -- everyone else who's not seeing a barony -- did you guys get an early siege too?

(You are not a seedgrain?  Of course, you and I know that very well.  But does the chicken know it?)

I don't use that joke of a production/job menu, whenever i have used it I felt like banging my head up the wall.   But in the interest of Dwaven science I suppose I will try and spend 30 minutes setting up some mundane tasks that would normally take 30 seconds.

Due to the search facility.  :)
I.e. j-m-q  for getting to the huge selection list, - but then just type 'wooden bin' to reduce the list to 'Wooden bin' and 'Wooden Cabinet'. Select the bins and order 20 for production.
I used to give the production oders directly in the workshops, but I'm now using the job manager 98% of the time.

Yes, once you know how to use the job manager, it will save you a lot of time.

Yeah I hadn't really bothered to learn how to use it :)  Somehow I missed the text at the top of the Job menu, thanks for the tip.

So now it seems theres an answer (kind of) for getting the Baron, does anyone know how to activate the economy?
On the wiki it says something to the effect of needing a Baron and some barss/copper gold and silver coins.

I want to see Dwarven poverty.  :)

Edit//   I just spent ages trying to fulfill the crafting requirements, then towards the end of the year a load of bloody goblins showed up and snatched some children bringing my pop below the required amount hehe.

So... as i can see, ppl agreed on that we need to do a list of jobs to get baron, while Toady answered here, that we only need 20 pop, 10k exported wealth and 100k produced wealth. And no jobs needed  :-\

Given how much confusion and problems people have had, would you be willing to produce the exact, precise steps to get a Baron, and to get the economy to turn on? There's so many different and contradictory statements.

If there is a lot of confusion, perhaps it is bugged.  My understanding and what worked last time I tested was that you need to have a caravan leave when your pop is 20, you've traded 10000*, and you've produced 100000*, and then when the liaison comes the next year, you'll have an option to elevate a dwarf to baron.  If that isn't working, there is some problem.

So... as we all know, the release information of latest version contains major fix of barony thing. If anyone has tested it yet? Do you really need only 3 requirements hit to get a baron, or we (dwarves) still have to work up asses to get promotion?

I'm playing a fort on .12, no baron yet, though I may have missed the offer. Those screens always seem to come up right as I'm doing something else, so I end up hitting a key to select an object and instead close the conversation screen.
