And this is when we just post image cards with a bunch of words on them.
But not too many words.

I assume the restriction works by killing any player at end of day that violated it, although I guess it could be a lighter sentence for the first offence, like their vote not counting at end of day and/or any night abilities being deactivated for the following night.

Funny thing to me: I picked what I felt was fairly easy and open restrictions, yet people hate being told what to do so much, it's "evil and restrictive".

...I now want to make "Post Restriction Mafia", with different post restrictions each day. Have fun posting without the letter "C"!

Thanks for the responses.

I definitely wouldn't include unknown mechanics that made certain ways of playing much more or less viable. I was definitely thinking of making the special mechanics clear from the start, so people could think as much as possible about how to play around them. As well as to give them as much time as possible actually practicing the kind of play the mechanics encourage.

Ha! I'd rather play in the second kind of tournament, no matter how perverse the optimal strategies. The idea of internet strangers giving their thoughts on my technique and getting to decide how well I do based on that... ew. I definitely wouldn't try to do it to other people.

...

I suppose you could accuse me of doing just that by saying bay12 players place a slightly low emphasis on fakeclaiming/playing tight. I don't think it's quite the same though.

I had this idea for a mafia. Everyone has hidden abilities, hidden to others but also to themself.

Some can see the abilities of others, and some of those are mafia.

You have to decide if you trust them. These may be abilities that have a cumulative effect over time, but may not be apparent they are working at first.

Maybe you need to do some silly thing a number of times to 'unlock' your ability.

So maybe 3 other players at random, know what you have. Any single player can't know more than 3 players.

I think it might work better if each person's power is only known by at most one other player. If a player's power is known by three players, those people probably just claim the power and know that they're telling the truth because it's confirmed by two others. If no one else can confirm a power, it opens up a much more interesting game space where people could lie about what they know about other player's powers.

👍

I wonder if there needs to restrictions on how many mafia can know each other? As that would be a freebie.

However, I don't know if we say that can't happen, if it influences the game to be too strongly anti ability helping, to keep mafia powers off.

Mafia knowing more than other players is part of the game.

Yeah I think the possibility of mafia having one another's info in this setup makes it more interesting. For example, mafia #1 could claim in the public thread that mafia #2 has a vig shot, but privately in their chat tell mafia #2 that they have some other power, then mafia #2 could do the mafia kill that night with impunity.
