No way the magmaworks will be ever "finished", there's always room for more! But it's ok to skip magma for a year. Maybe do something with water... add a pond to the farm. Someone has to think of the ducks.

I think if Moltenchannels is ever intentionally flooded with magma to solve some problem (and drained and repopulated), that would make it a worthy Ardentdikes successor.

For dorfing it's better to say your profession preferences and the seer will pick one that seems notable enough.

I have been looking at this fortress for over 15 minutes and I'm only getting even more confused.

Watch out, we are dealing with a pole over here. There will be a lot of spelling mistakes etc. here, so help me fix them or just ignore them. I'm still not sure when to use "didn't" and when "Haven't"... And saying anything in future simple (would etc.) is still a black magic to me...

So there she was, Troll Fur Sock (this sounds so stupid...), sitting on the edge of a small pool, staring into water. Living here was easy. Mine something here, build a bridge there, dodge an unicorn... Untill she saw previous leader's notes. And it turned out she knew nothing about this place. Food production, magma forges, tips about how to seal everything off in case of goblins... That was a little too much for a simple worker to take care at once.
They were voting for a next leader, because old wanted to take a break for caring about everyones' socks, booze and safety. And someone jokingly proposed her, because "She must be smart if everything around here is working only because of her". Okay, but there is a slight difference about making bridges raise and don't letting whole fortress starve. Surprisingly, everyone agreed. Guy who said that was lucky enought to get out of her reach after she realized that she just became Moltenchannel's second leader. He would end as a pretty *Dwarf Bone Floodgate*.
A group of dwarves was talking about booze behind her. One of them said that he would kill for a single drop of ale. Suddenly, she felt they all were looking at her. Another thing to care about... That explained a lot about Udib, previous leader. It was always bugging her, why such a... "normal" Dwarf has become a grumpy loner soon after embarking here. Now it was clear - he had to care about everyone so much he didn't have time to take care of himself...
She stood up, heading to the main... Well, let's call that cave a "hall". She called one of dem useless fishery workers who were acting as communication system there. That was the only thing they were good for.
- You. Go and tell miners to dig more rooms. No matter the shape, we just need more stone. And give our masons this...
On the scrap of paper was a small note. "Stone blocks R".

Everything went better than expected. They are listening to my orders, well, a little uwillingly, but hey, I'm first female expedition leader since 1054. I can't belive how many days can it take for a miner to FIND HIS GODSDAMN PICK...  It will be a hard job to actually complete something here. And if it takes them three days to at least start doing something... Sweet Amrok, have I been like that last year? Poor udib...

4th Granite
Noone gives a single buck about my orders. Nothing has been completed. Looks like they're still busy with ending jobs from last year... Saint has been acting strangely, he didn't even look at us when we tried to talk to him. He is collecting wood and keeps repeating some words I don't understand. Let's hope everything is okay, he is very important.

Hey, guess what other dwarves have just done? NOTHING. It looks like I will have to use some... more brutal arguments. Also, Saint has kicked out our carpenter from his workshop. He almost got his finger cut off with flying tools, thrown by Saint. That escalates quickly... I hope he will soon get back to normal, I don't want to order our guards to beat him, but it looks like I will have to...

So yeah... Saint was acting strangely because he wanted to make a barrel. A godsdamn barrel. What in the name of Amrok... Cat population is getting out of controll, but I think I know how to use this as our advantage...

Nothing. It's 14 days have passed and I have designated lots of stuff, but everyone is busy making... coffins and bins. We don't need that much right now, but I will let them finish it, Wastedlabor didn't order them to do it "because yes".
Mines are awaiting some digging, and I have designated a nice pool/well that should reduce breaks for drinking by many, many days. The first thing I will do after that is completed will be expanding aboveground structures. I don't know about you, but I would like to see something like medieval castle...

The problem with succesion games is that - I don't understand a single bit about what you wanted to build, so I have 3 options:
1. Try to guess and possibly destroy everything
2. Ignore what you did and start my own projects, possibly destroying everything.
3. Magma. Destroying everything.

Edit: No really, the only real project was the magma distribution column, which is just bridges to feed each level for whatever. Then there was the access bridges that were still unlinked, a bunch of storage room to stack over/below workshops, and the 2nd level was left empty in case of plumbing for cascades/flooding projects --I put the lever room in the first level so it isn't accidentally magma-fied.

I think the broad project with this fort is to build outside and do interesting things with the magma. Best to pursue your own choice of project roughly in line with these two ideas.
