Adventure: How do you keep your hands free?
« on: January 14, 2016, 06:18:02 am »

It's been over two years since I tried adventure mode and I'm pretty lost when it comes to most things, but currently what is causing me trouble is my character holding things with his hands. I am trying to fight unarmed, but when picking up things like meat from butchered animals, it gets equipped in my hands rather than going to my backpack and I can't figure out a way to fix this. If I use the (p) key to put it in my backpack it says "you don't have a suitable container" despite the fact that i have a backpack and it still has plenty of room for it.

Is there any way to prevent thing getting wielded when (g)etting items? Is there a way to unwield items to clear my hands?

Also, I've noticed being able to make sharp rocks and write things with the (x) key. Can we craft things in adventure mode now?

'q' weilds and unweilds your weapon and shield. I find it quickest to drop whatever annoying object has ended up in my hands 'q' my weapon and shield out then pick up the object again (no hands free = into backpack).

Enemies are very obliging as they hang around while you muck about with your inventory.

-- No, sharp rocks, campfires and poetry are the extent of adventurer crafting without a mod (there is one that's up to date as far as I know).

I believe the cause of not being able to put things in a backpack is the object in question being too large or heavy.

That doesn't fix my problem because I keep my hands free, I only have a dagger and while the dagger gets strapped with (q), whatever other random item i have in my other hand does not get put away, leaving me with only one hand to grab stuff with.

Would you know the name of this mod?

no, it's not a size/weight issue. If I drop the item on the ground and occupy my hands with something else I can (g)et the item and it'll go in my backpack just fine :(

Call it a hunch but that may be an exploit or straight up bug. Something tells me I'm not supposed to be able to pick up and store multiple statues, megabeast corpses, and small islands in a turkey leather backpack just because I'm holding something in both hands.
If there's a backpack out there that can actually do that, I want it. Now.

You can put one or more bags in your backpack, and they seem to hold unlimited amounts of stuff. If it goes to your hands, put it in one of those. It's a good way to organize your inventory, too. Pouches will take an endless amount of coins and a few small valuables.
