Sculpture Gardens in 42.x and beyond
« on: January 14, 2016, 05:21:17 pm »

Does the sculpture garden really serve any purpose now that we have temples, taverns, and libraries? Does a dwarf have a desire to see sculptures, or hang around outside(doubtful!)

You could assign a sculpture garden to a dwarf for private use, I guess.

If all other needs are met, or there is not tavern / temple / library offering any need, dwarves will hang out at meeting areas as well as statue gardens, and take a stroll to places they've recently done a job or were stationed at.
Sadly, no parties. Making friends / forming relations has become really really really difficult this new version. It appears relations are not forming much if at all when dwarves listen to music, poems and stories, or pray. Not sure about the specific socialize job.
Friendships form more quickly when you have no temples, inns or libraries, or personal rooms, and just single 3x3 or similarily small meeting zone/statue garden.

I was a little disappointed that sculpture gardens, zoos, and wells play no roles in assigning the new locations.  I thought a statue especially should make a great base for a temple.

Yeah I've noticed that with a tavern and temple operational, my zoo and sculpture garden are getting nearly zero attendance.  Which is bad because I used to use a walled-off sculpture garden on the surface as a way of coaxing my dwarves into the light on a regular basis to combat cave adaptation. :)

Overlay your tavern on top of the sculpture garden, or make a surface temple/library.

The statue garden in my tavern seems to be the most popular spot. Coincidence maybe, but Dwarves still get good thoughts from being near fine artwork so if you have the space and the statues, it can't hurt.

I got the impression people made a lot more acquaintances now. They rarely did even while partying together.
