From what I've seen the conversations on social media move way to fast for anyone to get any kind of meaningful conversation to happen due to how fast things get swept away by other crap.

To go back and edit that one in, as if I'd remembered that one too, or to acknowledge that it was a good catch by someone else...

Syrian civil war restarting is an unexpected developement... Not that I think that anti-Assad coalition is capable of a serious success but everything that makes Russia spend resources is good in my books. I welcome every source of videos and photos with dead Russian soldiers and mercs.

Also, Georgian oligarchy keeps cosplaying Yanukovich and co. A likely new front for Russia... Or a new ally for Russia.

This video from Georgia brings a warm feeling of nostalgia...  Firework guns, catapults, withstanding water cannons at freezing temperatures, medievalish gear and tactics...

Sadly, I have seen the original and I know where this remake is heading. I will be very surprised if Georgia won't be occupied by Russia in a year.

Clearly Putin is counting on nobody reacting to this latest provocation. Would people be mad if I blamed Trump?

I don't understand why you call it a provocation. It is a result of a long slow Russian strategy of consuming Georgia.

And there are only two ways from here - like Belarus or like Ukraine.

It pains me that Georgians, just like we did, are wasting valuable time instead of preparing for the inevitable war. All that cute fireworks and large crowds will do NOTHING.

Oh, I dunno. Patriotic celebrations today pay dividends when you need True Patriots to fill out your enlistment quotas.

Quote from: Clash Report

Syrian opposition drone operators reveal collaboration with Ukraine to Clash Report.

Abu Bakr, leader of a Syrian opposition drone team, reached out to Ukrainian military intelligence for guidance.

Ukrainians supplied 3D printing files for key components like bomb carriers, tails, and warheads. This allowed the opposition to produce, assemble, and adapt their drones independently.

“They taught us about drone mechanics, bomb carriers, and 3D printing.”

Abu Mazen, another drone operator, confirmed the significant role of Ukrainian training in advancing drone signal transmission and targeting systems.

They enhanced drone range and operational efficiency by solving energy and signaling issues. Workshops for larger, fixed-wing drones and the use of 3D printers for precision parts were established.

By mid-November, Syrian opposition drone teams declared complete readiness.

Abu Mazen confidently stated, “Everything is ready,” indicating operational maturity and self-reliance.

However, both Abu Bakr and Abu Mazen clarified that Ukrainian support was limited to training and guidance, without direct involvement in field operations.

I think it is very probably true because fresh videos of drone strikes from Syria resemble Ukrainian tactics a lot.

How do I feel that we provide assistance to a group full of radical Islamists? I have mixed feelings about this. Enemy of my enemy should have reasonable limits. We are providing technologies that can easily be used against civilians in terror attacks.

Then again, Syria is a Muslim country, any reasonably popular liberation army will have Islamist radicals in their rank. And their war against an evil dictator and, de facto, Russian and Iranian occupation is 100% just.

There are about five different "opposition" (anti-government) 'sides' in Syria, with varying degrees of positional allegiance from "radical Islamic" to pretty much (as much as it is realistically possible, at least) plain old secular anti-Assad. With a side-diversions into an ethnic group that is downright considered 'Unislamic' by some of their detractors, which unfortunately includes at least two of the other "opposition"s. (Last I checked, these contrary groups didn't have adjacent territories in the patchwork quilt of government/non-government control, however.) And sub-militias have been known to switch between SDF/SFA/IF 'umbrellas' according to which is territorially the more relevent to their own concerns.

Syria is just so very complicated, and even if it's specifically the full-blown Islamic faction (basically Islamic State), given that they're fighting that government which is being supported by Russia, I'm not sure I'd blame at least some people thinking "the enemy of my enemy's friend is my friend" and giving a helpful nudge to keep Russian forces having to spend extra effort. Even if not to cause them a more direct headache.

And all the "well known secrets" are probably well out of Pandora's Box, anyway. Even if not officially sanctioned, and even if not unofficially sanctioned by a fringe element of a slightly rogue sub-department, eventually someone with access to the early R&D will have gabbed to their Syrian cousin (or via an even more tortuous and disconnected route) and proliferated some of the tricks and tips. And a good tactic is a good tactic, regardless of who actually independently thought it up (or plagiarised it, or was actively given plenty of directed hints about it).

...I wouldn't say that I don't have concerns. But you can't call me surprised that there's cross-pollination. Which makes random claims (I know nothing about Clash Report) of apparent trans-national cooperation possibly echo such inevabilities or be just a warped understanding of reality. Yeah, sounds possible. Other interpretations might be more true.

It's getting really hard to avoid the thought process of "at this point, does it even matter?" I mean seriously, what does a warning even do here? Unless anyone has the motivation to take action, words are meaningless. In another thread I talked about trying to find nonviolent solutions... but these people at least need to be forcibly removed from their positions of authority.  I hope that it could be done without mass casualties.

Humanity has really missed a beat when it comes to being vigilant against evil. I'm confident that in the end evil will not triumph, but I still lament that there will be so much death, destruction, and suffering in the interim. It would have been nice if we never got to this point.

I just can't understand the psychology that prompts people to obey the orders of these sowers of chaos. It really must be that people really just do get physical elation from inflicting pain and asserting control...
