1. The meatball develops a simple digestive system(presuming we have some sort of mouth hole)
2. the meatball develops a simple circulatory system to help power muscles
3. Speciate the meatball:
    a)Flatten body for better aerodynamics
    b)Develop eyes

Mouldy Pea:

work to evolve a respiration pathway, including oxygen-tolerant enzymes, their electron transport proteins like cytochromes and oxidases that can reduce O2 down to water molecules when it's in excess as well as electron transport chains that use oyxgen as the final electron acceptor (cytochrome c oxidase-related, quinones) - and move towards aerobic respiration pathways.

Work to evolve oxygen detox pathways and mechanisms like superoxide dismutase, catalase, and peroxidases so we can handle all the reactive oxygen species we're about to explode with.

Work on membrane complexity, cellular and edge-of-organism so we can have adapted fatty membranes, stable with mostly saturated fatty acids and embedded antioxidant molecules and repair mechanisms near the membranes.

The Wrapper:

Hang in there for now, hopefully the mouldy peas are successfully detoxing this oxygen challenge so living on their surfaces is easy and pleasant.

Hey, those of us with LC/50,  both of mine (Imp's) and BlackPaladin's...

Are we LC or are we NT?  Are we 51?

      LC/100-51: Least concern. This species
      enjoys their high and healthy
population counts. Not in any direct
      threat.
NT/50-31: Near Threatened. Not quite in
danger, but could be in a better
      situation than it is.

LC. It is a mistake on my part. NT starts below 50.

No. You can use it as both an individual vote and an addition.

From the Pea
1: Evolve 25 different scent sensors, one for each scent in the water.
2: Evolve 25 nerves connected to the scent sensors.
3 Evolve 25 legs to slowly crawl along the floor.

I am overpopulated already? NICE!

Vote 1: Develop a muscular system, specialized cells that can expand and contract in synch to create a slug-like movement.
Vote 2: Create a vascular system with tube-like cells radiating from center of the body, near the digestive foot, to more efficiently distribute nutrients to the rest of the body
Vote 3: Create vacuoles in the digestive cells full of digestive enzymes that can be easily secreted out of the body. This helps the flat penny regulate the amount of liquid it releases on its food, increasing the overall energy efficiency.

Oh hey, I just noticed this! Cool to see this is up again!

Anyways, since the pea is still here, I'll speciate off of that and,

1: The chemoreceptors is just a good idea in general, so I'll have that.

2: Follow that with a basic nervous system to help better transmit information around the body.

3: And lastly, maybe the foundations of muscles as to help with movement.

It's fun to see this back, by the way, I look forward to seeing what happens next!

Question: If i use exaptation to add functions to an already existing feature, do i get the +1 even if the original feature is not vestigial, but perfectly functional?

Well then... From the Pea

1. Develop fins to increase surface area

2. Develop a reproductive chamber that creates small larvae

3. Evolve small cellular strips to filter feed

Yes. You can build off of existing things, within reason. A fin can become a leg with a +1 bonus

Turn 2

The Events

Events start next turn

The Actions
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The World

The seamount is already crowded. The adaptive radiation is still on full swing. The environment is just about the same, if less fertile because of the amount of consumers currently existing.

The Pea is already gone. Not a big surprise.

The Underwater Peak | Rocky Seafloor Biome | (10/10 species)
Spoiler: Local Species (click to show/hide)

The Cladogram
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

8 people. A fucking record- holy shit. The seamount is already full... Alright, next turn will be an expansion independent from the event dice. Otherwise things will become absurdly competitive.

The Yirmibesh
Evolve 25 cores devoted to specific forms of food processing.
Evolve 25 gills to grab oxygen from water.
Evolve 25 veins for transferring oxygen through the body.

Oxidised Pea

Open Circulatory system.  We got the oxygen and hopefully some extra sugars from our chloroplasts. We spread it around well inside - and pores to give a little sugar to our symbiont, who probably doesn't spend much time eating.
Thicker muscular body.  We got the oxygen to support this; chloroplasts likely shuttle to the light-exposed surface of our body, but we're gettin' bigger.
Thicker and tougher radula.  We got teeth and we learn how to better use them, cause Imp's a happy neeerrrrd who now thinks it best to chews them.

Edited to classify circulatory system... I think a closed one is a leap too far for now :P  but I didn't exactly be clear.
