DF Suggestions / Re: DF Eternal Suggestion Voting
« on: February 24, 2021, 06:13:41 pm »
I think the thread should probably be locked by this point. The thing isn't being used or maintained, and all anyone ever does is ask about deleting implemented features.

I've done my best to manage the suggestions under my control, but it's relatively few.
I could probably go in and un-already-worked-on them all at this point, but it was mostly there to be like "hey, this saw progress, try highlighting other things for a while"

(Lol, my profile images are dead)

There's a lot of features in this list which are already part of the game. As previously noted automining but I'd like to add that x64 support has already been added.

I guess the list is unmaintained?

Super unmaintained.
I've done my best to maintain the items on the list I have control of, but that's remarkably few of the top 50 now.

- smaller map size (default is 4x4 but you can still make decent enough fortress with 2x2 , and additionally it can be more challenging too as invaders are then more dangerous as they don't have to travel as long before reaching your walls)

1x1 embarks were also possible at one point, thought I've long since forgotten how.
I remember quite fondly the 1x1 volcano embark I did, where half my initial seven burned to death in mere moments.

Other Games / Re: [Kickstarter] Arcen Game's AI War II. Take 2.

AIW2's direction has also shifted massively twice since the Kickstarter. It was going to be big.

Then it was going to be smaller.

Then it was going to be different.

Now its AIWC but moddable.

Early Access is the right model here, especially when a lot of he original ideas weren't working out and spite got pared back and back and back. The game is finally on a "mostly fun" state (ie ready for hoards of people who expect something payable, but still eager to give criticism and have things change based on their opinions). The coupon is just an easy way to say "hey, the game's out now." Coupons are even *transferable* sometimes  (good to give to friends who don't have the game yet), though I haven't checked to see if this one is.

Something something Minecraft doesn't have a tutorial either (there's kind of one now with the achievements/advancements, but its not really the same thing).

Only 3 votes. I would say 5 but no more than 5 would be better. Also maybe make it so you can type 100 chracter comments for each of your votes if you like most of the suggestion but not the whole thing. Unless you already break down all suggestions into there smaller components.

So if someone saidelets make aquifers more realistic but also add in sprinklers and pipes. It would be split into too seperate suggestions to vote on. One for sprinklers and one for more realistic aquifers.

This is the kind of comment that would have been more useful 5+ years ago when it was being built. :P
But the whole "leave a comment" thing is why suggestions (can) have forum thread links.

It was, 02/10/2016, version 0.42.06.
“Can set specific job material in job details”

Cool, wiping the votes. I'm not going to mark it as "fixed" as it's been a few versions and there may be more work people want done.

Workshop material selection

I have control of this one. I haven't been following the dev updates/release notes. Mind quoting the relevant part so I can be sure I'm wiping the votes off something that's actually been addressed?

The game *is* playable, but it definitly isn't pretty.

So what's the status on this?  Is the eternal voting defunct, or is it still going to be used?  Will completed topics ever be removed?

No one knows.

And what about breeding with demons, or other magical creatures?

Dragons can obviously breed with anything. :P

nobody other than you however said it was a localized thing but how said plants in general are fed.

Dude. Xenosynthesis is her1 thread.
It's her suggestion that underground plants operate that way.

You're trying to discount her suggested idea of underground crops by dismissing the limitations she built into the idea on the grounds that "it's only limited because you said so" and "if it's unlimited, there's no reason why underground plants wouldn't outcompete above ground plants."

Seriously.  Stop.

1Gender assumption totally made blind.

Good job on you not reading back a page or two to see that NW_Kohaku has used the abbreviation at least twice.

"simulationist NPK model"
"...you're trying to argue against "NPK" in favor of "CN" because..."

I get it, it's a 33 page long thread and you didn't read all of it, but that was the bit that jumped out and demanded questioning?

Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium.
Potassium's elemental symbol is K (Kalium).

15
Well, I think we should have both options and let people use what they want.

Considering that the NPK method is already both...
That is, it supports both the mechanisms of "use fertilizer, get bigger harvests" and "use crop rotation, get bigger harvests."

Supporting two different incompatible data types doesn't seem like a thing Toady plans on doing.

The only thing about the method NW_Kohaku posted that is beneficial is splitting up the data storage across several tiles. That's actually a really clever thing to do. No arguments.
