DF Modding / Re: Runesmith - A DC like tool

Shouldn't this be on the Obsolete list in the Community Mods and Utilities list?

Tilesets and Graphics / Re: Ironhand's Graphics Set (on Hiatus)

Ironhand has made me too used to his graphics. Playing with other tilesets feels so empty inside.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Migrants stuck on edge of map
« on: June 02, 2013, 01:32:05 pm »
Are they stuck at the edge-edge, or just close to the edge? Because this could just be as simple as not having a cart or a meeting area. If they don't have a meeting area, they have nowhere to meet up with each other. Instead they idle at the edge of the map until their migration status has cleared and they need to fulfill a need or a job. If they've already arrived at the map, setting a meeting zone won't help them until they get cleared of their flashing gray X migrant status.

DF General Discussion / Re: Reverse FPS death

I usually have my FPS set to 70 maximum. Let's me react to combat ... fairly well, without going at a snails pace.

We had this one dwarf who had those and the bastards here tried to science him by attempting to slam doors shut on his guts.
Does anyone know how it went?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Is this a good layout?
« on: January 03, 2013, 04:12:29 pm »
Good? Yes. Efficient? No.

If you want a really efficient sort, make use of the layers. It takes dwarves the same amount of time going up or down stairs as it does for them to go one step to the right.

as to military... how much time did you give them, they can take quite some time to properly equip, especially if they're kept busy with station orders, switching from active to inactive and drinking.

Everything you could imagine. I tried having them on station with and without the Active/Training. I've had them idle, chilling at the meeting area (With and without Active/Training). Usually they just stand around with "No Job" as their current task.

At the start of the game, I set my population cap at 35.

About a year later, I reach 38; thinking that was the final migration wave. But lo and behold, next season, another wave comes. And then again the next season. And then AGAIN. What's going on here? Why isn't the pop cap taking effect? I'm looking at the d_init.txt at this very moment. [POPULATION_CAP:35]

I've heard that the liason needs to have their meeting before it works. Well, they've met twice so far. In the first year and then again in this year.

I'm also having trouble withmy military. They don't seem to equip certain items. They'll be walking around, some with helmets, but no breastplate. Some with boots and chainmail, but no greaves or helmets. The stockpiles are practically overflowing with armour, so there's no shortage. I've tried forbidding and unforbidding unused items. I've put the uniform settings to replace clothing instead of over clothing.

What the hell.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Is it possible to learn DF all by myself?
« on: August 14, 2012, 06:14:36 am »
Sometimes, I wish I hadn't poured hours upon hours on tutorials and the dwarfwiki.

I wish I had explored the game through trial and error. But I was too afraid to lose. Too afraid to fail. That's me in a nutshell. I have always been so afraid of doing wrongly, that I am always so cautious, even in a fictional world such as Dwarf Fortress.

Please, don't make the same mistake. Don't do everything by the book. Explore the game.
Losing is fun. But when you stop losing, the fun wither away.

Life Advice / Re: Help with picking a Anti Virus
« on: July 01, 2012, 06:39:32 am »
Nod32/ESET Smart Security (They're the same thing, just ESETSS is just moar stuff) is great. It doesn't interfere that much with what you're trying to do, it's just there to shoot the viruses and grab a cup of coffee. But you have to pay for it to update.

Good to see that people are writing scripts for DFhack. :9
We need a separate board thread list for DFhack scripts.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: World Gen Flux Stone Layers

If you're using the standard worldgen, if you set the Mineral Density to Everywhere, there will be little to no flux stone.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Are crossbows still overpowered?
« on: June 08, 2012, 02:35:35 am »
A. Crossbows are supposed to pierce armor, that isn't op, it is realism--crossbows were meant to counter heavily armored troops.
I don't think wooden bolts are supposed to penetrate candy.

Sounds good then. I'm thinking of having a military consisting of a few full-time professional melee fighters armed and armoured to the teeth, and mass conscript every other dwarf into crossbow squads that get to fire from behind battlements.
Sounds surprisingly like medieval history.

One minute: Giant capybaras are just big rats, right?

Next minute: Why won't they stop killing my poor war grizzlies?

Normal Capybaras are giant rats.

Giant Capybaras are giant rats.
