I think it's getting a bit of a Banished treatment, a decent game that for some reason is way too talked up by a ton of people. From playing it a couple of hours, so far, it pretty much is Banished+

I was thinking the exact same thing. Banished's hype was and remains completely inexplicable to me. A solid game by all means, but I never understood why people seemed to go insane for it. I haven't played this (yet) or seen *too* much of it, but it strikes me the same way. Solid game with a weird hype around.

Personally, I think it could just be because I don't think there was a big mainstream game of that sort before? That being a 'hardcore' settlement manager of the sort, Rimworld had only been out for a year and Dwarf Fortress was still at least afaik niche, City: Skylines was a year out so we were still in between major city building franchises, too.

I forget exactly the gaming landscape in 2014, though, so this is entirely speculative.

-snip-

mfer makes it open source then gets surprised when people make a thing with it.

Like. I get putting restrictions on usage, but like. You kinda have to make it known when you do something like open sourceing it. Frankly, once you open source a project and you haven't made it known what can and can't be done with it, you're kinda stuck with whatever happens.

but then again, modders seem to be a special type of breed to just get absolutely wild. see: all the various bethesda game modders who throw fits.

Kinda disappointed. I know it was only an expectation I built in my head, but man, I really want a DLC that's focused on wider game mechanics like faction politics more than another path of things to do that don't really interact with you much unless you force it.

Yeah, Factorio's mod community is wild. Watched a guy's video on Space Exploration and I am amazed people find that level of management fun, I find base game hard enough as is :P

It was always amusing when you'd end up with like, an entire board game or book stuffed into a mason jar.

I'd probably keep it at a fairly low setting and use it as a way to ratchet up tension in decision making rather than to make the game really real-time.

That setting, if I ever had the time to learn how it works and how to code this myself, I'd make it so that if you're in Safe Mode it doesn't advance, but when you're not it'll start to take effect. Makes your base properly safe, then forces you to have to make decisions when danger is afoot.

And also ya know fix the issue RD mentioned :P

So the next update is letting gas pass through vents.

Is putting a bong on the other side of a vent and getting an invading army incredibly stoned so that they move and fight slower considered a war crime?

Huh, I wonder if new update will make gas system more modable as well. 1.4 completely removed ability to add custom gases (at least without significant coding) which forced me to deprecate some of my mods.

Wait they removed that? So something like Pawnmorpher can't have the mutagenic gas bombs now? Sad.

Oh my god I think I remember playing that or some other free MTG engine, I forget. My dad had it on an old computer tower computer and that plus Star Trek Armada 1 are just core memories of PC gaming for me

Makes me wish star trek armada would actually work, but I think my disk is borked bc I tried to install it on an old e-pc we got for free from someone that ran unreal tournament and other old games -like Star Trek Fleet Command- p well but it never got past 0% on the install.

I do know that if the species you're playing does not have the exact same traits -and potentially in the same order- and the exact portrait used, the game will not recognize the species is the same.

I really like this game called Worldbox.

It is a minimalist god sim done right. It is cute and random, yet diverse enough in the tools it gives, and very capable of generating compelling stories.

If anything, just follow one random soldier of a random village of a random kingdom. The soldier may be a sixty year old war veteran or a nineteen year old idiot who is about to die young. Then just wait and watch as he gets killed by a soldier from another kingdom. The follow cam switches to the killer, so you start following that one as he goes around.

You can continue like this for in-game centuries, from one soldier to another, until inevitably one of the soldiers just die of old age.

Yeah it's honestly one of the more satisfying god games imo bc it can just be the standard sandbox stuff, or you could have really neat stuff like the above without having to worry about the game not supporting it as much bc you aren't trying to blow everything up.

Wobbledogs is fun.

they wobble, they're dogs, and they get horribly inbred really quickly.

Its time to D-d-d-d-d--Duel

Dueling network is more of a virtual tabletop then a proper game, but if you are a fan of yugioh or just like to see what the latest wtfbrokenop card is its a good deal of fun

~snipped sketchy url, no way anybody is clicking that~

Virus?!?!?
Ya, it's super sketchy.

Its not quite a "Good" yugioh game yet, but given the nominal lack of interest since this quoted postchain, Yugioh Master-Duel made by konami is a perfectly acceptable F2P card game to have in your steam library. Albiet i wouldn't say modern Yugioh is any better than hearthstone in monetization but its certainly a nostalgia trip if you wanted some dueling and there are some solo modes that arent pricey (let me rephrase, they're free for anything but your time) that give out viable decks and goodies.

Out of anybody's speculations the devteam on it are completely overworked to deliver long term goals (classic mode, more formatting, banlists, extra card archetype support) and you'll die to OTK tropes a lot of the time but its nice to see all the cards again and be exodia'd for old times sake.

EDBPro is probably the best free yugioh simulator out there. Has both regular formats, plus a lot of things that showed up in the animes but not in any official setting, ie Action Duels, Speed Duels, even Dimension Duels from the Dark of Dimensions movie.

but it also doesn't have matchmaking built in, and isn't official soooo :P

Noticed in the CDDA commits , there was something rather amazing :
https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/56778

I hope it means some people will be able to make more real life locations maps like this one in the future.

It's a neat gimmick, but until they actually rip the guts out of the godawful city and road generation, it'll only ever be a gimmick. My big pet peeve is the massive Isherwood special that always looks so out of place, especially on the pics from that mod. Speaking of bad map generation, I had this wild bit of map gen recently:

Spoiler: large image (click to show/hide)

Even aside from the many many redundant bridges, there's a lot to unpack there.

You say wild mapgen, I say I would love to play that.
I looooove water worlds in CDDA, gives me a reason to build boats.

speaking of DDA

I managed to get a bug fixed that's apparently been around for a relatively short while that seems like . It is at least a bit satisfying to see that I at least got SOME annoyance of mine fixed :P
