Can anyone point me a formula of how armor penalty is calculated? I'm going to use Ring Mail (because if resistances) as a DECj. I have Str 5 and get my Armor to 5 to lesse the penalty. It is easily manageable since my hardest spell is battlesphere, but I want to have nice EV later on and excellent spell success of my Firestorm or LCS.
I understand that i may find a good robe to replace my ring mail and all the work wil be just a wasted xp and stats. But if that ring mail can be managed with little effort (such as 6-7 str and 10 Armor), I will be glad to get it soon. This will widen my choise from robe-leather to robe-leather-ringmail.

Also, is 5 in shield are enought to nullify the buckler spellcasting penalty?
I would be glad if someone can share links to trunk source code where I can look at all the calculation.

Yep, that's ok for trove.
My first (and the only) treasure trove required horn. I am not an experienced player, but I killed Geryon in that game.
Anyway it is better to SHOW the horn than to GIVE 2 potions of cure mutation.

You can inscribe items by opening their description and pressing 'I'. There's probably a faster shortcut. Sometimes I like to inscribe "notches" into a weapon for each unique I slay with it.
I'll go inscribe my fire storm then.

Keep in mind however that if they kill stuff for you you get half as much as you would have gotten as if you do it later (assuming they haven't changed it of course).
Thanks to my tries on summoners, I pay attention to it. In general, I prefer to deal with treats with my destructive magic (as a true Cj). I was thinking about animate/simulacra/tukima's dance as a help with extremely tough enemies (or large groups of extremely tough ones).

It will raise 99% of everything that leaves a body
Hah, that makes it a really cool spell. I'm gonna give it a try in the Orc.
Are these zombies/skeletons permanent? I've never tried a necromancer.

Get bolt of cold ASAP.
You should get animate dead.
Yep, I think I will switch from my Icicle to bolt of cold soon. I am using icicle only because it is more than enough now (with battlesphere). An I will leave IMB for cold immunes.
Animate dead is in my Book of Unlife and I can learn it. But what does the phrase "attenpts to raise" means? Is it that I will get only 2 orc skeletons from a freshly-laid graveyard in the Orc1 with one cast? Or the raising rate is quoite good? I can assume it is better with more Necro skill and I will have to focus on it if I learn this spell.

My DECj feels very good. I'm level 13 now, clearing lair and mastering my magic skills. I can cast haste reliably (3% or 4% fail), can throw icicle and I am thinking about learning bolt of cold (since it has only 1% fail now). I also have deflect missiles (but with 43% fail), battlesphere to aid me in combat and flight.
Loot are good too. Book of Ice. Now I wield staff of cold, wear robe with rC+ and some other minor bonuses like Dex+1, ratskin cloak, ring of power, ring of MR+, hat of MR+, all resulting in rC++, rN+, rPois+, MR++ and ~50MP.
I got swamp and spider this game and can imagine my way through it. But I got some questions:

1. Does staff of cold and ring of ice Cold magic enhancing stacks well? Or it is like staff of wiz and ring of wiz?
2. Do I really need LRD's ability to break down strong walls? I guess I will try to kill slime king so just Dig will be enough. And if it is enough, I can train Air magic to some point for better RplMsl, DMsl, Freezing clouds.
3. Is simulacrum a cool spell? I have it in my Book of Ice so I could learn. If I start to master Necro, I think I will reliably cast it after I finish lair. I think it may be cool to swarm someone like Mennas or Mara with 6-7 frozen swamp dragons or 10-12 icy death yaks.
4. I have trained hexes (since it is nearly free for DE) to 7 or 8 for better fulminant prism. I use it mostly in early game, and in the mid as a safe way to kill oklob plants. As I have a book with Tukima Dance now, I wonder how useful can it be compared to simulacrum? It seems to be more resilient and I can re-use weapons. But on the other hand it can be hard for a 9Str character to carry a lot of weapons while chunks can be found everwhere.

YASD!

I tried to do Vault 5 with my CeHu. After entering vault I blinked and ventured into corner where I can be hed by only 2 enemies. I was under heroism, finesse and haste. After decapitating about 15 enemies I quaffed berserk potion and killed about 8-10 more. When berserk run out I read tele and proceeded to swing my halberd. Teleport kiked me to quite safe place - 3 yaktaurs and a shadow dragon. Yaktaurs are dead and dragon is running severely wounded. I decided to let him go because I wanted to recuperate. On full hp I started my exploration and catched a mark on me. Then the hell started.
My fault was that I stayed in the V5 instead of trying to fight my way to V4 before things started etting mych worse.
I was killing enemiess, running from big bands, teleporting randomly and running again. Hp was always low, I ate all my healing pots. Then I noticed a rune and decided to get it and run away to leave this place forever. I got the rune and 2nd random teleport got me to the 5-6 tiles from the stairs.
Not too far me with my mark attracted a lot of enemies to the stairs and it was heavily crowded. If I run there I would certainly get blocked from stairs, so I blinked at the free ladder up and ascended with an ogre mage and yaktaur.
I had only 40 hp left and I had to kill them fast! I decided to go berserk and I started to puncture yaktaur (since he can deal more damage I thought), but when he became dead I was.... banished!
This abyss had reapers instead of orcs and newts and I went down to one of the enemies.

Well, you survived 5k turns in Abyss 3 and 4, so, with a recharched wand of TP (just in case), there is no reason you could not get the Abyssal rune, is there?
But the abyss itself was just a "stand in a corner and regen until terrain changes then find another corner". The first ~1000-1500 turns I was exploring abyss, but then I got owerwhelmed and the next thousands of turns I was hiding.
In fact I can try abyss again and change my tactics from killing everything on sight to just running on and on. It will be better in terms of loot, rune and I will loose some hard opponents back.

In the Elf I'm gonna rely on my bow and fast feet. I assume +7,+6 longbow of frost should deal enough damage to quickly kill elf casters without need to approach them. I did it with my DECj and that was not that hard. I only decided to teleport from elf3 vault because there were too much blademasters.

Here is the log (didn't post it bcause I don't know how it helps):

And top creatures that I dealed with:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My stash is quite bad for Slime. I have only rMut amulet with me and no clarity/dig/rCorr.
And there is no potions of cure mutation, I lost some in my attempts to cure teleportitis (my fault, it was temporary) and mutation roulette.
I have +2 artifact plate mail with some elemental resistances in my stash, switching to it from my leather armor i will loose in MR, Dex and Acc, but get some EV. This may be good for Vaults.
I don't afraid being banished since I could handle Abyss:3 until I find gate (and maybe find a rune there!). So I would stick to my plan on clearing Elf to get some XP for fighting/dodge/armor.

CeHu is breaking in!

Last weekend I lost my DECj in unequal fight with an ancient lich in the Crypt:5. I was much more stronger, but decided not to cast fire storm for just a lich and started throwing fire bolts. I missed a lot, but 2 iron shots from the lich didn't.

Now I'm playing a CeHu of Okawaru and branched into polearms.
D1-27 is clear, Lair, Swamp and Spider too.
I got Swamp and Snake runes but don't know what rune should I take next.
I tried Abyss. I ventured to the 4th level and started exploring. It was really horrorous place. In ~1500 turns I ended up with multiple devastating temporary mutations (but Dex -2 is on now) and depleted teleport wand. Things started getting tougher and tougher and I decided to fight my way to the gate and leave.
Now I'm on my way clearing Vestibule (I need horn for treasure troove), then I'll go do Elf. Maybe I will do Crypt.
But where the hell can I get 3rd rune?

Vehumet
My DECj is at XL 19 now, but I can say something about Vehumet. He is quite handy because of his Gain power from killing. It is based on monster HD, so you may rely on this during the whole game. Compared to Sif channeling it is much more preferable in tough combat since you shouldn't spend turns to use the ability (and train invocations).

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.14-a0-629-g748cab2 (webtiles) character file.
How do u make char dump on webtiles?

Ok, I cleared Elven halls, the loot is not that cool, except for staff of wizardry. Now I can take off my ring of wizardry and free slot for some other artifact ring I may find soon.
Aso I got manual of staves. Does Staves skill improves stave enhancing bonuses?

UPD: one more question: Does robe of the archimagi gives me wizardry (that badly stacks with rings/staves) or another status?

Gonna go clear that Snake pit!
