webadict told me to do this, so I am.

I don't think I can run BBBYOR right now for complicated reasons, and we just had a huge exhausting BYOR anyway, so... I'll try this. Supernormal is a semi-fixed setup inspired by Supernatural and Paranormal, but weirder and more dangerous. It's definitely not unbastard, but not totally bastard either. What I mean is, it's an extremely normal game and there is nothing to worry about.

I would prefer to have fewer players than Fallacy just did or else I will probably melt down, but, for apparently the first time, I'm not sick when I'm trying to start a game, so let's see whether I suddenly come down with ebola because of this. I'll take however many players I get.

I'm not going to make this too ambitious at the moment, so this is a pretty straightforward "standard mafia" action system, nothing special. Possible alignments are a surprise, but you can ask anything you want and I might even answer. I'm aiming for 48hr days and 24hr nights, not counting weekends, unless anyone strenuously objects - I'm not a fan of things dragging out too long. I'm going to go ahead and try hammers this time.

I've also decided that the only role anyone is allowed to claim is vanilla town. :)

Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something that is different from either your shadow at morning striding behind you, or your shadow at evening rising to meet you: I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

In order for the procedure to flow smoothly (you will be processed and eliminated in an orderly manner), you shall submit two words to define your inner nature.

In order that we shall not forget you (you will be remembered long after you are gone), you will submit a single flavour element to define your secret.

It is important that you know that two is not four. (It is important that you know that three is not four either.)

You will never need to vote for anything which is outside the game. I am outside the game. Therefore, you will never need to vote for me. If you have questions, you may ask them in slate grey. I am not obliged to answer questions. (I am not obliged to do anything.)

Those who (in terror of death), having given of themselves, beneath white linens, go unrewarded:
 - Quarque
 - sofanthiel
 - Canuckitten
 - Crymire
 - EuchreJack
 - TricMagic
 - FallacyofUrist
 - Imp

Welcome, noumina.
You do not have a name or a face, but you grew from something. What was it? Might it have been the corpse of an enormous fallen bird, a ruined temple, a still lake of pearly, oiled waters? To each his own, unless both mean to be soul-brethren. Note that it may be better to leave some details open-ended.
You should also select a colour.
All choices have meaning.
Please proceed to manifest.

[This is like or as a god game. There are mysteries to be explored. You will not be creating much at first.]

I don't know why it's called that.

In this game, the mafia are a cult and town is also a cult. It is a game for the modern era, where everybody wins and nobody dies. Unless the third-party wins. Then you are all doomed.

There's no fixed upper limit to how many players I can put in this thing, although if it goes to ten I'll probably have to scramble to think of new power roles to keep it interesting.

To put it simply, this is a nightless setup where, during the day, everyone votes for a player to be converted to town, while, at the same time, cult members submit secret ballots for a player to be converted to cult. There is no confirmation of the previous alignment of the chosen player, and cult members don't know each other (all communication is through me). If the town "lynch" hits cult, then the cult are temporarily inconvenienced and the cult convert doesn't happen - but only the "lynched" player knows for sure whether that happened! (Since he's now town, he might be forthcoming about it, unless it's more valuable to keep it a secret...) Power roles might result in the announcement of extra information, but, depending on the player's motivations, it might not actually be true. Finally, there is a third party whose goal is to stop either side from winning. This individual cannot be converted to anything. One side or the other must win within a time limit proportional to the number of players, or everyone is doomed!

I have no idea if this will even work. Actually, I'm convinced it won't. But at least it will be something to do for a little while, right?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Hexahood (Gridhood, but hexa.) Turn 7
« on: October 07, 2020, 07:30:08 pm »
I was thinking about this idea a while ago, and apparently Supernerd wants more gridhood games, so here, have a thing.

Rules: Be gods, make things. Be tribes, build stuff, mostly get killed by gods. Gods start with 12 power and if they run out of power they DIE. Tribes start with 12 population and if they run out of population they go extinct. Try not to be a tribe before there's enough world to survive in or I will not hesitate to kill all your members off.

Gods may:
  • create one triangle of simple terrain for 1 power.
  • supply a civilisation directly with 6 food for 1 power.
  • boost the fertility of a tile by one level for 6 power.
  • increase the population of a civilisation by 1 for (previous population/4) power (3 for all tribes at starting population).
  • double the research output of researchers for 1 power each, limit one per researcher.

Tribes consume 1 food per population per turn.
Tribe members may:
  • forage for food; production modified by tribe foraging ability and terrain.
  • pray to the local divinities, generating a small trickle of power.
  • sacrifice to the local divinities, generating somewhat more power.
  • try to reproduce, increasing the population of the tribe. Reproduction will also happen passively.
  • any additional actions unlocked by their understood technologies.
  • attempt to learn to do new things. Success highly variable!

These are not exhaustive lists.

The coordinate system may take some getting used to, but it's just basic synergetics: follow the axes in each direction (helpfully indicated by arrows) until you hit the coordinate for that axis. For example, the topmost left triangle is F1m.

I'm not really into art so I will probably not make anything more fancy than a basic colour-coding.

What would you like as if you were your own made up mafia?

Specific Rules:
  • No hammers. Fuck hammers. Hammers are like Mondays, the only thing they're good for is shooting schoolchildren. Wait, did I say that out loud?
  • When you sign up you will send me a PM with whatever you'd like to say in it except for one very important inclusion which you will not forget, a single word describing your desired role. You may include this word in the context of further text by quoting it in connection with any reasonable sentence such as "My role submission is 'Flipper'." If, however, I see you go even one word over the one-word limit even for a second, I will not tell you, but accept your submission without comment, and not until you get your final role back will you discover that I chose whichever single word I thought would be funniest.
  • Days and nights will end at the pleasure of the GM, who is me. This is not me being difficult; I just can't realistically promise any set schedule because I have a sleep disorder.
  • Ask me no questions, and I will tell you no lies.
  • Make no assumptions, and you will never be wrong, probably.

PLEASE IMMEDIATELY PROCEED WITH SIGNUP PROCESS

A) To the northeast, dangerously close to the imperious boughs of the Elven forest.
B) To the icy reaches of the far north where the surface is harsh and the wind echoes in the deepest halls.
C) To the east, nestled amid the tumult of bickering empires.
D) To the far south where the unforgiving sun beats hardest and the sweltering air pools in the tunnels.
E) To the western mountains where terrible beasts prowl.

F) To the far west, literally under the actual sea.

Welcome to ABYSTOK, located in scenic "under the western ocean"!

It is said that over ten million years ago the legendary King Dominkan rode out to the western coasts and founded the outpost of Abystok with his six companions and the traitor elf-witch he kept as his advisor.

Of course, nobody actually believes this legend, nor that Dwarven civilisation has even existed that long. Whatever the lofty origins of Abystok may have been are long since lost, along with the lofty status it more certainly once held. For centuries, longer than you've been alive, Abystok has been reduced to a minor holding of the Low King Hehrcog the Brutal, whose ideas of law and taxation match his reputation. But today, that's going to change. Today, Abystok will taste independent home rule once again, and if you manage to survive, it might even be your rule.

Because today the news came: Hehrcog the Brutal is dead.

Today, Abystok is no longer ruled by the fierce warlord, but by his daughter the now Low Queen Graszdat ingen Hehrcog, who shares her father's foul temper but none of his fearsome competence or talent for command. The garrison's morale is lower than you've ever seen it, and many of them might even join you when they see you have already obtained permission from the Overking's court for this rebellion. The new Queen cannot hold you back; your moment is now.

But that was yesterday.
Today, you are the new Low King of Abystok, Golian Duskbrow, a Jarl of the locally prominent Highbrows clan, known for your preternatural luck.
