A group of seven dwarves slowly make their way to an outpost site. Through rain and snow, over ice and sand, they travel. The path is dangerous, but they won't stop until their destination is reached.

A dwarf taken by a fell mood sets to work in the butcher shop, off-screen carnage splattering the walls and soaking his hands with blood as the events that drove him mad in the first place flash through his mind.

And now for something a little cheerier.

The fortress militia frantically buckle on armour and man the ramparts as a wave of goblin berserkers bear down on the fortress gates, volleys of crossbow bolts blotting out the sun and cutting down dozens of goblins but failing to slow the momentum of the assault. Then at last the goblins come face-to-face with the counter-charge by hardened warriors, their platemail and weapons forged from the finest Dwarven steel, and the attack breaks against them like a wave upon the rocks.

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

An adamantine spire is found in the caverns. A tense moment is felt throughout the fortress, and the dwarves watch with bated breath as the miners begin to dig away at the side of the vein. When it becomes apparent that it's solid all the way through, the danger is past, and the dwarves rejoice.

A fortress that dug too deep too soon. Completely unprepared for such a threat, the song plays as the demons of hell have a merry time running through the fort, tearing apart the scattering, frantic dwarves.

A lone wanderer that adventures through the forest late at night he is hungry and thirsty and decides to have a sleep and hopefully feel rested when he wakes up. Shortly after, he is woken up by the demons of the night, badly wounded he manages to get to the nearest village and collapses dead on the ground just as the dawn breaks.

[Then he becomes a ghost]

^ Someone in the mountains is fleeing from an invading force. There's brief cuts to showing the hostiles pursuing that person, and the end there's a scene of the mountainside and the land down below.

After the destruction of a once-great fortress, a dwarf wanders among the ruins, grieving for her lost family members. Miraculously, she comes across her husband and child, who had stuck together and also avoided death, although they believed her to be dead as well. The family of three dwarves-- now apparently the lone survivors of the disaster-- set out to rebuild the fortress to its former status.

This one might be a bit obvious, but I figure it's worth mentioning regardless:

A massive battle rages on the bloodied and devastated ground. The final battle in a world shattering war between the four major races. And as the sun sets, four legendary warriors, one from each race, look upon the death and destruction caused.
The dwarf, exhausted and covered in the blood of countless soldiers, both his own and his enemies, drops his battleaxe. The elf, views the charred trees and trampled plants around him, and lowers his bow. The goblin, after slitting the throat of another foe, looks around at the hundreds of corpses that lie dead on the floor, many of them fellow goblins, and sheathes his dagger as his hands begin to shake. The human, knowing he has lost everyone he cared for in the war, falls to his knees as he sticks his sword into the dirt.

They all know, it doesn't even matter who wins the war anymore. The price payed far outweighs any gain victory could offer.
