I embarked on a beach with a freshwater spring, plenty of trees and sand. It's basically perfect. It's in a savage area with whip vines and stuff too. Only I'm not getting any interesting animals! So far all I got were some otters and a large group (15 maybe) of badgers (regular kind, not giant).

Did I break something with my world creation settings maybe? I think I went for very easy settings (I'm noob) and smaller world size with shirt history. What should I crank up? I want tigers, lions and other dangerous animals but not too many forgotten beasts if possible. How many ocean tiles should I aim for in the embark area? I think I only have a very small corner of ocean on my map.

Should I try to channel out more ocean? Would It make a difference?

PS: Yes, I chopped every tree on the map before the silly longears can even begin to complain about it. At least now they can rightfully call me a tree butcher. =3
