As you hurry towards the elevator, you ask your men what happened. One of your engineers answers that he doesn't know for sure, but he suspects the Main generator failed, forcing the computer to wake everybody and evacuate the compound. As you reach the elevator the lights are glowing even dimmer and you can only barely hear the sound of the ventilation system. After you reached and activated the elevators you start counting the supplies your men managed to safe. The result is meager: There's food for 3 weeks and enough tools for the engineers, builders and farmers to work with but there're only 10 rifles ( Not including your own) and almost no ammunition.

Unfortunately the power runs out while you're still 2 floors under the ground so you had to walk the rest of the way using the stairs in total darkness. From this experience you can safely say that trying to go back for more is not an option, unless you have flashlights and oxygen tanks. As you exit the bunker you find yourself in a deserted wasteland, filled with the broken white stumps of dead trees. It seems that you're in the middle of a Nuclear summer and that it's not going to stop anytime soon. At least you managed to skip the nuclear winter and the worst of the fallout. While the bunker was in fairly good shape the rest of the base is in disrepair: the fence is filled with holes and the gates have been torn down, The lab seems to 've been looted and is damaged and you can't even recognize the other buildings though you're pretty sure you could salvage a great deal of resources out of them.

The surroundings are pretty dull: Your base is situated at the top of a hill. To the North, South and West lies a dry savanne. To the East you can spot a small valley with green trees, and you suspect it to be a 2 hour walk. However,


Now what are you going to do in the next week? And what are you going to call your fort?

Assign everybody that isn't getting assigned to combat to gather scraps.

See if you can cannibalize the bunker's outside areas for materials.

Head east.

Who's heading East?(Note, the jungle isn't exactly safe)
Also please note that you have no means of transportation and  that 3 weeks of food for everyone weight quite a lot. Also, those minerals are quite heavy.

As for bunker canibalisation, It has survived multiple looting attempts and a global thermnonuclear war. I doubt you'll be able to get a dent in it. You can go and explore/loot the labs though.

Guards: Garrison the perimeter of the base.
15 soldiers, 5 guns

Salvage team: Loot the Scrap Heaps.
25 scientists
10 farmers

Construction team: Use the scrap to fortify the perimeter. Simple walls and raised corner platforms will have to suffice for now.

Um yes, You are a person to.

Note: Every game turn is a week long, unless it's a special battle turn. As for the perimeter, there's already an electrical fence in place, however it's unpowered and has some holes in it.

Quick question : what was powering the bunker that just failed?
If it is something that is potentially reparable then some scientists, with a small escort, should attempt to check that out (power is useful, and if it was working in the last day, i'd place more money on getting that going soon than a full nuclear power plant, which would have days startup from a cold start even in a perfect world.


Since the area around us has been looted several times, there may be hostiles around, and getting a defensible area is possibly a higher priority.

How good is the crio-tech -- ie, what health is everyone in -- are we even well enough to go exploring a jungle?

Priorities:
basic defense (we may not last 1 day without this - 10 rifles to defend 100 people ... )
Shelter (we may not last 2 days without this)
Water (1 week )
Permant security shelter (unknown priority, depending on unknown conditions)
Food (we need to scavenge food from somewhere, we don't have enough supplies to consider farming)

Speaking of farming -- did we have the foresight to store up things we might need to rebuild civilization -- after all we spent hundreds of millions on the shelter itself, is there a few million worth of farming tools / other stuff somewhere in that shelter we just quickly left ?

The bunker was powered by a compact nuclear reactor. ( Note you have a lab, and not a nuclear power plant). Sadly since the whole thing lies 300+ meter under the ground and the lifesupport systems are offline, so there's no way you're going in there anytime soon. ( The oxygen is running out down there)

You have been out for quite some time, so the looting might have happened a long time ago.

Cryotech worked perfectly,  and everyone is healthy.

Your food supplies include water, but it's not that much.

As for stuff inside the bunker, who knows? You have some basic farming implements with you, including seeds for rapid growing vegetables(1-2 weeks) and grains(3 weeks)

Given we are in south america, how does "nueva esperanza" sound for the forts name - "New Hope"?


Otherwise, Nirur seems to have a good plan - the perimeter guards should do a full sweep for signs of habitation (or how long ago habitation ceased). The scientists searching for scrap should keep an eye out for random technological items in reparable condition (scientists might recognize that that electron microscope left by other people has use ...)

There's a water source to the east. I still think we should spend a week scouting around it before setting up farms.

I think we should assign all farmers to farming when we start.

The scout team departs. Meanwhile the rest of the guards take up their positions near the wall.

The scientists start looking for stuff in the debris. They manage to gather 35 resources. Also, while digging in the rubble they find a nest of fluffy rabits. They do seem to be a bit large then they used to be. They're very docile though. What do you do with them?

Meanwhile the construction team fixes the fence, though there're still 2 large holes in it. There's one in the west side and one in the East side, where the gates used to be.
Inside the engineers and farmers have prepared a large plot of land for farming. It includes some greenhouses and a small clearing for growing trees. You most now decide which seeds you're going to plant.( Just tell me the growth time, possible amount of harvest and other misc info and I determine the food production)

The scouts return and tell you they were attacked by large apes who stormed at them from the trees. They managed to kill 5 of them before they even reached them. The  remaining apes, despite their ferocious onslaught, failed to hurt any of your soldiers. At which points your soldiers retaliated and killed the remainder. They took the meat with them.
Their other expeditions didn't find a thing.
