Kobolds have surface villages?

I've never seen anything like it. Is it common?

It apparently happens infrequently, when a cave is displaced by a river or something.

Found one with a brook and no cave, even after the notice that I'd discovered a cave entrance. I managed to get in the center without getting into a fight, but it was kind of nerve wracking; they're small, crunchy, and difficult to distinguish from the piles of loot.
