Cloth shoes are serious business
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:42:48 pm »

I was atomsmashing some crap and some of it ended up on top of the smasher while it was down. I ordered it to be raised anyways so I could continue. Naturally, everything went flying. A miner who was trying to dump something got catapulted on top of the fort wall. But most impressively...

Seriously, what the hell?! A shoe made from cloth (which is basically a sock, I presume) somehow managed to be flung with enough force to break the back of some unlucky soldier who happened to be milling around nearby! Through iron armor!! The good news is that I don't really need to soldier since I can apparently kill goblins by pointing the smasher at them and launching my dirty laundry :/

The fact that he could get that seriously injured by clothing shows that he wasn't up to the task of being a soldier

Maybe it operates like crashing minecarts.

Bridge shotguns? Someone test this right now! (Even if it already has!)

The atomsmasher strikes again. I build wall around it and told dwarfs to dump stuff from above to avoid stuff like that. A child went in there for some reason and someone dropped some pants at him knocking his teeth out.

My laborers are building bridges as I type on top of the castle walls. I'll dump some random crap on it and fling it at the next caravan.

Oh hey. My fort's first titan. The bridges won't be ready in time, nor will I be able to get the titan in the right position.. I'll have to send out my military, I think. They've been getting board.

EDIT: My militia kicks ass. This is the ENTIRE combat log from the titan, from spawn to death:

Combat log from arena mode, 100 pig tail fiber shoes dropped on a dwarf from 2z above:
Spoiler: hidden for length (click to show/hide)

The dwarf didn't die, but is effectively disabled for life.

I think falling object damage is a wee bit unbalanced.

In other news, this thread is full of win.

How did you create items that aren't on a creature?
Spawn them on a light creature / vermin and drop. The socks'll fall faster.

Some small birds just can't hold 100 of anything, and will drop at least 98 of the items. The creature stays airborne while the items fall down.
