Dwarf CSI : a new episode
« on: January 06, 2008, 03:36:00 pm »

"Basshunter", male fisherdwarf, has been murdered in cold blood by an unknown force. He was fishing peacefully in the little stream you can find in the lower right corner of the map, when he was "struck down" out of nowhere.

It's as if the invisible hand of fate just descended from the sky, slapped him dead and dissapeared in a cloud of smoke.

Even more worrying was his mental state, as described by his fellow dwarves.

Seriously, what happened ? I have a groundhog (I had rhesus macaques and horses, all of which are dead), are these animals dangerous ? Was it some other dangerous specimen of fauna appearing there, goring my poor dwarf and continuing his merry way ? Did Toady include suicides without telling anyone ?

Are there fish in the water over there? fish are quite a bit more fierce then they should be right now, he might have been terribly wounded by a carp or something.

How quickly did you find his corpse? if you were not paying attention it could have been a wolf or something that wandered off the map after killing him.

Otherwise, is he listed on the justice screen? he might have been beaten to death for failing a mandate.

This is a fresh new game, so nothing to do with justice. I tried understanding what happened right after he died, so.. ?

To be purged, that is the fate of the fish.

Those are indeed spatterings of blood.
His corpse was still hot. I don't know, a couple of minutes at most.

Any bodyparts found separately?

Edit: Btw, unless you zoomed there immediately, we might have to consider the case that the murderer went off the map's edge already  :(

Do not want to sound too much like an advertisement, but using dwarf companion, you can click on "all creatures", then double click on the dead guy, click in the "damage" tab, and you'll see the level of damage and bodyparts just before he died.

Looking at the picture, it doesn't look like he was struck down by a wolf, as they usually leave quite a mess behind them. I join Sheerluck Holmes in naming the carps as the murderers.

But can there even be carps in  brooks? Also, if he was attacked next to the brook and then dragged himself away before dieing, you would expect some bloody tracks... or not? Maybe we really need a Dwarf Companion autopsy!

The log notes that he was interrupted by a rhesus. They're not usually violent, but who knows what kind of new AI routines they adopt after stealing an item? The log also mentions they stole a pair of steel bolts.

Under normal circumstances, an unarmed dwarf could easily wrestle a rhesus macaque to death. However, these particular monkeys were armed. Would a monkey-like creature use a stolen item as a weapon?

EDIT: Aha! Apparently, the fisher interrupted his "Hunt" because he was unconscious! The fisherman, obviously, wasn't fishing when he died, he was attacking a rhesus macaque that was running by with a steel bolt.
