Grae let out a heavy breath, and stooped to clean his blade using the cloak of one of the dead defenders. "Sounds like that was the last of them. We'll take a moment to recover and then we're moving out."

After taking her talons out of the body and internally wincing, Aurelia flew down the wall to meet the party on the other side, and quickly transformed back to her normal self. She took a few deep breaths, part stressed by what she'd just done and part just happy that nobody on the team had been badly hurt.

"Everyone ok? I took care of the guy on the wall..."

Joachim stretched, first his front legs, then his back, and transitioned back into humanoid as he finished.

"Well, that went well. A little borrring to starrrt, but I got a chance to flex my claws."

He put his left hand on his hip and shaded his eyes with his right, staring out past the gate Clover had opened.

"Wonderrr if therrre will be morrre prrrey soonerrr... or laterrr."

Milos stopped to catch his breath once he heard that the enemy lines were depleted.

"Thank goodness..."

While dancing usually wasn't physically exhausting, the mental exhaustion of having to dance around (and occasionally for) Beast Laguz was straining, as he not only was afraid to stand near them but also he was just plain nervous about having to perform his best. Regardless, it was done.

"Here's hoping the rest of the trip will be smoother than that..."

"You're OK, it's OK..." Alys said, more to herself than the bloodied mage in front of her. It made her paranoid to think that two of her teammates had just been climbing the steps to death's door, just like... No, no, she couldn't think about home now. She finished her Heal with a burst of determination, and helped her patient... Vanessa, was it? Onto her feet.
"How're you feeling after getting set on fire and run through with a tree?" she asked with a smile on her face. It was dark to imagine that, but she always had a knack for making light of injuries she had just patched up.

Once Alys had put the group back on their feet, they continued North, entering Morcia proper. Before long, Grae directed their path west, toward the port city Cuue. Home to thousands of Morcian citizens, and a great military and cultural center for them. As the mercenaries approached the city, a thick cover of clouds rolled in from the sea, casting the city in a dim, dirty light. But before they drew too close, Grae called the group to a halt, announced he would return shortly, and left alone.

In a little under an hour, he returned, tossing hoods to Heledd and Joachim. "Alright. Let's try to keep a low profile, especially you two. I'm sure you understand, considering that there's a war on, the locals likely aren't going to be very warm to you. If anyone asks, you're wolves, not cats. They don't like wolf laguz, but they aren't at war with them either." Grae looked over his group, particularly at his hand selected group. "We've got a budget to spend. Three thousand gold coins. Check out the shops, pick up anything you think you might need. Ask around, see if you can learn anything about Laguz being captured in the south while you're at it. If they understand who they have, its possible some loudmouth has bragged about it. If they don't, there may be enough Laguz being captured that someone knows something about it. Joachim, Heledd. Neither of you are to travel within the city without a human escort. Am I understood?"

Joachim responded by stepping close to Milos and wrapping an arm around the smaller man's waist.

"Loud and clearrr, boss. Got my escorrrt rrright herrre."

He coughed.

"Ah mean, raht here."

The catboy's attempt to cover his distinctive accent was... certainly something.

Grae looked at Milos's face, silently and subtly attempting to determine if Milos was inclined to go along with it.

Heledd wrinkled her nose a bit.
"I think I'd have to find something to roll around in to convince anyone I'm a wolf. Perhaps it'd be better if I caught up on my napping. . . after all, I made sure to save it for after battle, unlike some."
"If I do go into town, though, I will follow your requests. I'm no stranger to subtlety."

"Yeah, yer an old cat, need yer sleep. S'prised ya ain't askin' the old man to tag along."

It was obvious Joachim was not used to speaking like this and his fake accent was all over the place.

Okay. Town full of wolves. This was going to be terrifying, but he was going to try his best to get through it. He was just going to stay close to his fellow mercenaries, or potentially one of the bird Laguz even, maybe do a little bit of shopping if he felt like it, but most of all he was just going to stay out of the way for everyone.

When Grae mentioned human escorts, Milos immediately had a chorus of pleading that he would not be chosen as an escort. While he was ready to try and blend into the crowd, he was not ready to conceal his fear and hang around the thing he fears for whoever knows how long.

...And then he gets grabbed by Joachim. A tiny, very faint shriek that was quickly suppressed came out of Milos as he recoiled similarly to what one would do after seeing a particularly large spider. Seeing Grae's face made him show a conflict of emotions. Did he beg for reprieve and safety, or did he just suck it up and hope that Joachim's intentions were pure? Milos tried to voice his moral dilemma.

"I, er, well, that is to say, uh, I think, well, um..."

He doesn't do a very good job.

"I'm, uh, sorry, but maybe you should take someone who's not shaking like a leaf? That'll probably not look great in town. Besides, I kinda had something I needed to talk to him about anyway." Aurelia said quickly. She was... mostly sure that Joachim didn't mean anything bad by it, but 'tact' didn't seem to be something either of the cats here had much of.

"... I think that'd be best... to have someone else with you two, I mean," Claire piped up in support of Aurelia's idea, though not without hesitance.

She wouldn't go so far to say she didn't trust Joachim, and she did have faith in Milos... but their dynamic meant that she thought it was possible that Milos could have a hard time keeping Joachim in check.

"It'll be OK, lil' guy. You ain't gonna get in any trouble with me watchin' out for ya."

Joachim gave Grae a thumbs-up.

"See? In-character as a doggy already. I got loyalty down pat."

Claire and Aurelia then spoke, and he turned to the bird.

"Why don't you come too? I wanna see what a big city's like, and if I stay back all I'll have for company is the cougar."
